The Witch Who Cried Wolf was an enjoyable and fast paced read. I’ve always enjoyed books that dealt with the supernatural so this was right up my alley!

My only qualms though, are that I felt that there were a couple of clichés:

★Girl falls for brother’s best friend.
★Brother’s best friend likes her back but can’t act on it due to his love and respect for his friendship.

And potholes in the story:
★Where the heck did she get her Wiccan powers from? How did it develop? Why is she the only one in the family who has them?
★What happens now that Ethan has been changed?

Hmmm...maybe I missed the answers to my lingering questions since I did read this book at like two in the morning but I really don’t recollect them.

I really hope the next book in the series expands on the points that I had mentioned. OR maybe I’m really just blind and missed them when they were presented. I don't know.

Over all, a clever and delightful mesh of Wiccan and Werewolf folklore!

This is a really interesting concept but it is all over the place. It was a short read that really needed to be longer. It felt like so many details were missing. The world feels like it is lacking information. With all the gaps in detail it was hard to really feel engaged in the story.

I likes Mia but was very confused about how she knew so little about supernatural things. It was also unclear how long she had her powers, why nobody ion her family knew she and her grandmother were witches. It also seemed she feared discovery, that was never really fleshed out either.

Ethan is another quandary. The backstory is missing big chunks. What exactly was the promise her made to her brother, what was the story behind his parents death and what happens now with the whole wolfie thing?

I did enjoy their dynamic, when they were not fighting their attraction. It was great having the mixed narrative. Getting both of their POV really helped lend insight into their relationship. They each said and did things contrary to what they were thinking. It is also clearly marked who is the narrator of each section.

Another downside is it is written first person, I kinda hate that. It makes the switch from Mia to Ethan weird. It really broke up the flow. First person is not my favorite in fiction, it is better suited to memoirs.

I am interested in reading more of the series but hope things get fleshed out more, so much of this world is a question mark. I am also curious what is up with her brother. And I am always up for more shifter romances, the smexy Alpha's son is a prime candidate for a HEA!!

When I was approached by author Sarah makela to check out her book The Witch who cried Wolf, I was interested and decided to check it out for myself. I was not disappointed! Ms. Makela's tale of a witch named Mia who falls for her brother's best friend after getting attacked by a werewolf at Christmas was a pretty good read that I read the novella in one sitting. This book reminds me of a Sherrilyn kenyon novel which I love. There's action, romance, and characters that you like and hate. I did not like greg. He was a jackass. If you like werewolves and witches, definitely check this book out for yourself. You'll enjoy it. I liked everything but the cursing which I bleeped out. I also went la la la during the sex scene. It was a pretty good read though.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I have to say that I am doing my traditional 'Happy dance' over here that I do every time I find a new author whose writing style I love to read. Yup, bootie is shakin' big time.

To start with, there are so many ideas in here that I haven't read anywhere else. I can't wait to see what else this talented woman comes up with. I like the world she is building in this series, it just gets my brain whirling around thinking of all the stuff that could happen.

This book has a satisfactory ending, although you can see where there are lots of opportunities to continue on with the story. Can't wait!

I liked this book until I hit the halfway point. Honestly, I was left with more questions than answers. Maybe the questions will be answered in book two but maybe not.

This is told in alternating first person POV (Mia and Ethan).
Mia has had a crush on Ethan for forever. He ignores her (but has feelings for her too). Anywho this starts out with Mia making a potion for someone and she makes a mistake. They come after her and her family. Mia also happens to be a witch. For someone who didn't fully know werewolves existed, she sure knew a lot about them.
This is a novella and it felt disjointed and like parts are missing. I didn't care for the whole childhood crush (and vice versa) on her brother's best friend and it being a "forbidden" relationship. Are they related? Nope. Are they grown ass adults who can make their own choices? Yep. I didn't like that Mia was dating someone and was waiting to break it off until after the holidays. Just rip the band-aid off! I also thought Mia was a doormat; she doesn't know how to say no. The ending was very abrupt and you could tell there is at least one more book/story. I didn't like this (or Mia/Ethan) enough to continue.

2.5 Stars The Witch Who Cried Wolf by Sarah Makela was a good book that I enjoyed but I wanted more. More background, more information and more from the ending.

This book centers around Mia who is a witch. Her family doesn't know she is a witch and so she has mostly ignored her powers except to make an occasional potion. She has a witch mentor Mia gets caught up in a plot between the werewolves and ends up with at least one werewolf wanting her dead. She's in love with her brother's best friend Ethan who basically ignores her. Ethan wants Mia but because of his relationship with her brother he doesn't feel he can act on those feelings. Ethan is in the military and coming home for Christmas and so Mia's brother manipulates Mia into picking him up at the airport. She is attacked by a werewolf and Ethan is bitten. Ethan realizes Mia has gotten herself into some trouble and wants to help her but she doesn't want him to get hurt. However, Ethan is already involved and Mia realizes she is going to have to come clean about her witch powers.

I really liked Mia and Ethan and the book but there were so many things left out:

How did Mia get her witch powers and why does no one in her family know about it?
How did Mia meet her mentor and do they have covens?
Mia didn't even know werewolves existed but then seemed to know a whole lot about them including how you become a werewolf.

The other thing that bothered me is the ending is VERY abrupt. It just ends in what feels like the middle of a scene. I'm guessing there are or will be more books about Mia and Ethan since this one didn't have a finished quality to the story.

Still the werewolf politics are intriguing and knowing how Ethan is going to handle the changes in himself and his relationship with Mia is also intriguing.

***Recieved the book from the Author for a honest review***
Mia a young lady, that’s a witch and doesn’t know how to be one, she holds herself back. She is also in a relationship she isn’t happy in (the guy being a jerk). A friends is a witch and is always telling her to exercise her power, her older brother acts like the younger brother most of the time. Nolan borders on irresponsibility. But he has his baby sister to pick up his slack, hence the reason Mia will have to go pick up Ethan (her childhood crush), from the airport. In the meantime she has a few things to deal with, her bff the witch as enlisted her to make a healing potion for a client, she has a date with her boyfriend... and from there things just keep looking up for her... not.
Ethan is a soldier coming home for the holidays, his home is with Nolan and his family. Which would include Mia. The sexy sweet girl that’s turned into a total knockout, does something to his sanity. Mia is his bestie's little sister so yeah, that makes her off limits... Right?
All kinds of things starts happening once Mia picks him up from the air port. They are attacked by a large dog... really a dog?? Both he and Mia are hurt. Just how bad they don’t know. So we have magic abound, we have a bit of danger and mystery. Emotions fly off the pages as Ethan and Mia try their damnedest not to feel what they feel for each other, while at the same time protecting all involved. Ethan will have to accept, Mia with have to let go.
I enjoyed the story of Ethan and Mia, I rate the story a 3 and the sex/passion a 1.5. Mixing up the numbers Ill give it a 4 stars. Since I cant give it 3.5 have fun and enjoy.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal). I love all things paranormal. Especially werewolves. I REALLY want a werewolf boyfriend. ANYWAY......
This was a quick, easy read that wasted no time getting straight to business and remained action packed until the end. It's a pretty simple story. Mia is a witch, but she hides it. She's in a crappy relationship with a jerk, but really has feelings for her brothers long time best friend. Who she has to pick up from the airport, where they get attacked by a wolf. And its page turning action from then on. And some pretty hot romance. 4 out of 5 stars.

Oh man, where do I start with this review? It’s a fairly straightforward, run of the mill, paranormal romance. Mia isn’t particularly noteworthy. She’s a mousy girl with untapped potential that she doesn’t believe enough in herself to unlock. She’s pushed around by everyone in her life, and most of those people aren’t likeable. Scenes are rushed, the worldbuilding is lackluster and not fully fleshed out. The chapters are told from alternating POVs, but the voices are so nearly identical that it would be impossible to tell them apart if you didn’t read the character at the top.

The plot is thin, and it seems more suited to force the relationship between Mia and Ethan. Mia comes extremely horny very early on, and that pretty much the tone with mildly tepid danger mixed in. The twists of the thin plot are painfully signaled long before they come into play.

From a technical/editorial point, the vocabulary feels that it is lacking depth. A thesaurus would go a long way to keep from having repetitive phrases sentence after sentence. There were a few places where incorrect words were also used (perspective versus perceptive for instance). It’s not a bad novel, but I wouldn’t seek out a sequel.

If you like relatively shallow reads (and there is nothing wrong with that), this could be the book for you. You could also probably find similar titles for free that could scratch the same itch.

Ugh, boring star crossed lovers

The premise sounded interesting enough, but while Mia and Ethan had the moments, her abusive BF, Greg, was a real a$$, and her brother Nolan was self-centred and dismissive of Mia most of the time. I couldn’t even bring myself to worry about Jessa as she was manipulating Mia as well. Subtly, and ‘for her own good’, but manipulation just the same.

The werewolf angle would have been fine had the characters love lives not taken over the narrative for the most part. What little there was of the Werewolf plot was I enjoyed.

Don’t think I’ll bother with any other books in this series.

The premise was kind of cool I guess but the story rather abruptly ended??? And the sequel isnt about Mia and Ethan? Which is just confusing. I also didnt really get the pull of the main couple. I was interested in the magic tho.

I was given this book for a honest review(LOP)
WARNING THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!!

What can I say about this book other then I WANT MORE lol. I loved this novel, it had so many layers to it. When you first start reading you learn of the witches and that the main character, Mia is one. Then the mysterious "sexy" guy come into the Mia friend store and requests a potion to cure a "friend" who was poisoned. Even when he came in Mia had a bad feeling about him and she ended up being right. Her "potion" was made with wolfs bane and without her knowledge she had poisoned the alpha of a werewolf pack.

To add a twist into it, her childhood crush comes into the picture and she is the one who had to pick him up from the airport. The emotions that you read and could most feel jumping off the pages were astonishing. Then she added in another twist if them being attacked in the airport parking lot and the werewolf infected Ethan. When that happened I almost didn't breath until we found out if he was truly infected or not. When we found out that he was infected it was like anther layer was added on, including that of the accidental love potion. That was probably on of my favourite parts. The reaction from both Ethan and Mia were awesome, gave me a little bit of a giggle.

Then we moved onto another werewolf making an appearance. The alphas son, I held my breath was he grabbed her by the neck and dragged her into her own house. I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see if Ethan would come and save her and what exactly this other wolf wanted. Like in every other section of the book the author delivered, not only did Ethan come to her "rescue" but she also added a twist of the alphas second was the one trying to kill him.

All in all I loved this book it was a good combination of suspense and romance. I am always a sucker for these kinda of novels. The only thing I can say is that I hope she goes farther into their story. I would like to know what becomes of their relationship and how Ethan fits in with the pack. As well as what happens to his career on the military and every other aspect!!!

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

I loved this book, but oh my goodness it needs more. I got caught up in the ending and forgot to pay attention to how close I was to the actual end so when I hit that last page I immediately wondered when the next book would be released.

Mia is a witch, but she’s too self conscience about anyone finding out that she neglects her powers and doesn’t realize how important it is to keep them strong until she needs them. But not only does she have magical issues, she has a werewolf wanting her dead, a boyfriend who treats her like crap, and then there’s Ethan, who she’s had a crush on since she could walk.

Ethan was looking forward to a relaxing holiday, but that wasn’t exactly what he got. Not only did his best friend ditch picking him up from the airport, he sent his baby sister to do it. It probably wouldn’t have been too bad if it wasn’t for the secret feelings he’s been harboring for her and the knowledge that since she was his best friend’s sister it made her off limits, but then they got attacked by a werewolf before ever making it to the car. Surely he’d expected his arrival to go a little more smoothly.

This book left so much open and I cannot wait to see how the werewolf clan politics will play out since they have a traitor amongst them and a newbie addition, or how Mia will proceed with her magic, or how Mia’s brother will react to her new boyfriend at Christmas dinner. Like I said, I cannot wait for the next book because right now I feel like I’m hanging.

My Favorite Quote: “I need you like I’ve never needed anything before.”

My Favorite Moment: I absolutely loved it when Greg finally got treated like he deserved. After his actions and his outburst he deserved it all and then some.

***I received this copy of The Witch Who Cried Wolf in exchange for my open and honest review***

A great read by a great new romance author!

This is a Fast paced and action packed book where you will meet revenge seeking werewolves and sassy, fireball throwing witches. Mia is a witch who is trying to concentrate on exercising her inner sleepy witch, while thoughts and fantasies of her childhood crush (Ethan) keep running through her mind like a freight train.
Hilarity, craziness, and action ensue as Mia accidently introduces Ethan to the hidden paranormal world after he is bitten by a werewolf on his way to spend the holidays with family.
Now the fighting begins, as Mia must protect Ethan and herself from a crazy wolf. Soon Mia and Ethan find themselves fighting their forbidden love for each other (Ethan is Mia's brother's best friend and to Ethan his feelings for Mia are forbidden fruit), if this wasn't enough craziness for anyone add the internal fight Ethan has to face as he starts to turn into a werewolf (he never even knew werewolves existed and now his becoming one of them), add all of these together and you get a story that packs one heck of a punch and lights your imagination on fire. This great story gets your "happy" juices following and will make you howl with need!

The only thing that I found drove me nuts about this book is that it ends in a happy for now ending and as a hopeless romantic I always want to know how the main characters end. For this reason alone I give this book four and half stars. This story was a wonderful introduction to new author and I find myself waiting and wanting more.

Mia probably wishes a thousand times she had not went into her friends shop that day. If she had not mad that stop her, her family, and the man she loved would not of been in danger.

Mia had lived with a secret. One only her best friend knew and that was because they both had the same secret. Only difference is Jessa did not hide it as much as Mia did. Mia had special powers. That was something she hid from her parents and brother.

Jessa had volunteered Mia to do a healing potion for Mr. Sexy. The only thing Mr Sexy said was that it was for a friend that had lead poisoning. If only Mia would of know she was making it for a werewolf she would have not add an ingredient that would poison a werewolf.

Next thing Mia knows is she is at the airport doing her brother a favor by picking up Ethan, her brother’s best friend. A man that Mia was in love with. Now here they were being attached by a werewolf. She would of never wanted to drag Ethan in this mess. Let him know about her secret, put his life in danger, and cause him to be changed into a werewolf. Now to complicate things even more Mia is using a healing salve that she forgot she had spilt some love potion in. Will the love potion work and Ethan fall madly in love with her? Will Mia put the healing salve on Ethan in time to keep him from turning into a werewolf? Can Ethan find it in his heart to ever forgive Mia? Will Ethan be able to keep Mia safe from the werewolf that is hunting and threaten her?

There is a lot going on in this book. I love how Sarah brought 2 supernaturals together. This was a very awesome read.

I completely enjoyed this novella. Mia is a witch. Her family doesn't know it, especially her brother and his best friend. Her mentor is trying to get her to be more 'witchy' but unlike some, Mia can't just wear her power out there. It must be controlled and hidden. After she mixes a potion for a man, life as she knows it changes. She and her brother's best friend, Ethan, are attacked by a werewolf and she learns there are more than just witches in the paranormal world...much more, deadlier creatures.
I liked Mia from the start. She was just herself, afraid to let others see what she was in case they treated her like the Salem Witches, but herself nonetheless. She has crushed on Ethan for years, but he is her brother's best friend and she knows he has never thought of her as more than an annoyance. I liked the twisting of the paranormal with the real world. I also liked that Ethan is a central character and not just the focus of her desire. He has loved her and been an inaugural part of her life for years and has his own back story. The fear she felt revealing her secret to Ethan, both for him and herself was palpable. Her brother was a protective man and I couldn't stand Mia's boyfriend. I did enjoy her potion making accident though!
I rate this a 5/5. I just couldn't put it down!

Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

A copy of The Witch Who Cried Wolf was received in exchange for an honest review.

An action packed romance with strong characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. Mia is a witch in the closet. Half afraid of her own powers, insecure about her relationships with men, and in love with her brother's best friend but afraid to do anything about her feelings. I got the sense that she has been half living her life for awhile.

Ethan has been attracted to Mia for years but her brother warned him away years ago and he's felt honor bound to keep their relationship platonic. When he returns home on leave after serving overseas as a soldier he's expecting to have a relaxing Christmas but is immediately thrown through a loop when Mia arrives at the airport to pick him up.

Unfortunately, Mia's magic has inadvertently gotten her in trouble with the local werewolf pack. When they get attacked in the parking garage by a rogue wolf who's been using her for his own purposes the couple is suddenly thrown into the middle of a paranormal world neither realized existed.

A fast paced story with action, magic, sexy shifters and pack drama, The Witch Who Cried Wolf is the first in a paranormal series that is delightful! A novella length story, it stands alone and doesn't end with a cliffhanger. With complex characters and a well developed story line for a book this length, I found it highly entertaining. Just right for an afternoon read. Fair warning; it does contain editing and grammar errors that are noticeable, but do not significantly detract from the overall storyline.

THE WITCH WHO CRIED WOLF by Sarah Makela

Mia Brooks is a witch with powers she hasn't yet mastered, and is reluctant to use. When her best friend and mentor leaves her no choice but to make a lotion for a customers sick friend, she does it begrudgingly, landing herself in a world of trouble. When the situation escalates with her best friend been assaulted and her long time crush finding out his turning into something thats only meant to be myth, she has to work hard to try and get them out of the dangerous situation.

Ethan Parker is home from deployment and his Mia's brothers best friend. His had feelings for her for years but promised Nolan he would stay away from her which he has, until now. Finding some myths are true is difficult to handle but finding out you are changing into one is something completely different. Ethan vows to help and protect her, especially as she is so important to him.

Darkness is lurking and trouble is never far behind. With all sorts of changes happening, can Mia and Ethan protect each other their friends and keep them safe.

This a really sweet story. I loved the idea of this story, it was different and interesting. The characters were very likable and they had good chemistry. It was a well balanced and relaxed story. However, there were a few discrepancies in the story and I felt it was a little rushed in places. But overall it was still a very enjoyable read!

I received a copy of this book from SSLY in place of an honest review.

Mia Brooks knows that she is a witch but she tries to hide it from everyone. Her friend is trying to help her harness her powers so that she can get better at them. She is called to her friends store one day to make a potion for a wolf. She makes it and accidentally puts a little extra in some of the jars. She puts them up because it was a love potion. She was thinking about giving it to her brother's best friend Ethan Parker but decides not to.

Ethan is on leave and asks his friend Nolen to pick him up. Boy is he surprised when Mia is there to get him. Mia thinks that Ethan can't stand her but in truth he loves her but he was warned by Nolen to not touch his sister. On the way to the car they are attack by wolves. Mia has a lot of explaining to do.

You can really tell that these two really love each other and they just need to give in to their feelings no matter what anyone else says. The only thing is, is Ethan is now a wolf and Mia has some wolves after her that will kill her family if she doesn't do what they tell her to.

This was a great and exciting story. It was full of passion and suspense. The author sure knows how to use her words and writes a great story. I can't wait to see if there will be more to these characters.

If you are looking for a quick romance read this summer, you might want to pick up The Witch who Cried Wolf. It is just the type of book that is great for the beach.

As a paranormal romance, I always enjoy seeing how a new author (to me anyway) tackles the struggle between the “human world” and the “paranormal world.” Will they completely embrace the paranormal and push aside any reality? Or will they try to blend the two worlds? In this book, you will find it is a melding of the two worlds that really works to the story’s advantage. Even though there are werewolves, witches, and magical elements that are the basis of the book, the story and the people read as real. It is the relationships between Mia, Jessa, her brother Nolan, Ethan, and Mia’s boyfriend Greg that really allow the reader to get involved in the story.

All in all, you have one part supernatural, one part real-life danger, and one part romance. Not a bad way to spend a summer afternoon!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)

This is definitely a good read, especially if you want a short story with an interesting plot. The characters are well-developed and everyone has given its fair share of the limelight. I also love the twist and turns in the story line, because it keeps me on edge as I turn every page. And because of this, I was able to finish this in one sitting. There are just few loopholes in the story line, but I hope answers can be found in the next book.

I'll be very delighted to read more books written by this author and I hope to read more about Mia & Ethan's love story. I just wished the next novel to be longer than this one. :)

This is highly recommended to paranormal fans who wants a good but short read.
