Let me say something a little scandalous.
This short story needed to be longer.
Maybe not a whole book (though I think the tension building and pining that could happen would be amazing), but definitely extended to a certain degree. The writing needed some filler, it was mostly dialogue. The filler paragraphs that could've been added could've been focused on their emotions and inner thoughts and definitely would've made the time jumps tangible. The way it is written the plot seemed to be moving at an incredible speed, and I was confused about what the characters want a decent chunk of the time.
The dialogue itself had problems too, it was awkward and unpolished... Everything about this short story felt awkward, especially the exchanges between the lead characters - and not in that manner that shows that they're nervous and interested in one another - half the time I didn't understand why they were still talking and they were saying the things they were saying, their statements seemed so out of place.
I expected the greatest love story set in Scotland. I wanted to love it so much. Why did it have to be such a disappointment?

This was a very sweet novella which was quite different from what I thought it'd be.

This book will warm your heart and make you smile and you'll want to stand on the side of a snowy mountain, just looking at the view. It's worth every penny of that £1.28 price tag. It's an easy, quick read full of feel-good moments.

Daisy is a very likeable character, although I think she puts herself down rather too much. And Rory is a little bit of a surprise and not what you expect after what you're told.

This is a gorgeous little read that's perfect for winter - and particularly those two weeks up to New Years.

I received a copy of this for free via NetGalley for review purposes.

From Scotland With Love evokes everything that is important to me about Christmas. It isn’t the expensive presents, posh food, and over the top decorations. It’s about appreciation, for what you have, what you can give, and for where you are.

I may have been born, raised and live in England, but Scotland has my soul, I have visited many times over the last few years, and I fall in love with it a little more every time. Katie has described exquisitely exactly how beautiful and wild it actually is, and I fell in love with this charming little tale pretty much from the first page.

If you put Scotland, Snow and Loch in a synopsis to me, I am there hook, line and sinker. Add to that a well appointed cabin, lots of home cooking, a grouchy Scotsman, and a happy-go-lucky, slightly ditzy girl, and you have the perfect recipe for success.

Rory definitely had my sporran swinging and my bagpipes standing to attention ;-) I love a man who isn’t afraid to show love for his animals and you get that in spades reading about Griselda his pregnant dog. You also come to understand why he is a little prickly around the opposite sex, which for me made him all the more endearing.

Daisy is great in that she proves to Rory that you should never judge a book by its cover, she may come across as a disaster when it comes to PR, but she makes up for it with other skills, and anyone who can knock up a crumble and custard in the kitchen has my vote.

All-in-all this short (I wish it was longer), incredibly sweet, heart-warming novel summed up Christmas for me. LOVED IT!

ARC provided through Netgalley, it was an absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review in exchange for the privilege.

I’m not usually a lover of short stories, however I dabble now and again. This is by the well know author Katie Fforde, so yes! I needed to read this for sure.

A 3.75 from me. Cute and really not what I was expecting, in a good way I mean. I really loved a lot about this.

The main character really put herself down, but, it happens when we see ourselves in a different light as to how others view us.

I’d recommend this for a winter read leading up to New Year.

Fforde has always been one of the only romance novelists I truly enjoy. I never feel dumb or silly while reading her, because she is such an intelligent writer with a wonderful sense of humor. Her writing never gives you the feeling it is formulaic or commercial. It is always about people, and they always feel real. This short story works very well, too. It warms the heart with its humanity, and offers a lovely wish-fulfilling settings as well. A fun little read for when you need a little pick-me-up.

This was a sweet story, Daisy goes to Scotland to get author Rory to sign book plates and save her job. Only she doesn’t plan on being stranded by a huge snowstorm and also stuck with grumpy Rory. To keep herself busy she cooks and also helps deliver puppies. Sweet but short story.

My life's ambition is now to be stranded in the snowy remote Scottish Highlands with a handsome literary type and a pregnant greyhound. And a bottle of single malt. Loved it!

Oh, what a shame I've finished this. A brilliantly written short story with warm-hearted, really appealing characters - especially Grizzie the dog! It made me feel I wanted a little house just like the one up a Scottish mountain, belonging to well-known author, Rory. The setting really grew on me and like city-girl Daisy, by the end of the book I'd become very fond of the remoteness and wild scenery. A highly enjoyable, escapist read.

This book was very short and while I liked it, I wouldn’t want to read it again.

I liked the characters even though we didn’t really get to know them too well and I thought that Griselda’s (the dog) part in the story was interesting.

However, this book had no conflict in it and I thought that the story was a bit fast because Rory and Daisy knew each other for maybe two days where we weren’t really shown what they think of the other person and then after a month every thing is written as if they were pining after each other that whole time.

Overall, I thought that this book was a good short book because there were things happening with Griselda giving birth and other people coming to Rory’s house. However, every thing happened really fast between the characters and I couldn’t really see a connection between them. Also, there was no conflict in this book so it was a bit boring.

Three and a half stars.

Inept PR girl Daisy tries to rectify her mistakes by travelling to Scotland to persuade her firm's most prestigious but also grumpy writer Rory McAllan to sign some bookplates she doesn't realise that there's a snowstorm incoming and she gets trapped with him in his tiny cottage in the middle of nowhere in the days leading up to New Year's Eve.

While Daisy might not be the greatest PR girl, she has lots of other skills which impress Rory, especially because she is nothing like his high-maintenance ex-wife.

This is a sweet holiday, forced proximity, grumpy meets sunshine romance novella - just the thing you need in the dead time between Christmas and New Year when I have the attention span of a gnat.

SO, so like reading "Love Letters" that I could hardly separate the two. I wanted to give 4.5 but obviously couldn't. As a stand-alone it was wonderful. I REALLY enjoyed it. The two main characters were easy to warm to and the story flowed effortlessly.

A romance that can be read in one sitting

Life has been busy and this fitted my “reading need” like a glove.

Katie Fforde is my favourite romance author. It has been great to find a couple “fast” reads.

Trevlig novell men tror den gjort sig bättre som längre, jag saknar miljöbeskrivningar och hade nog velat utveckla storyn mer.

Review: wow! I really didn't know what to expect from this short story, I haven't read many stories this short this year, a few novellas and serials but not a short story and I have to say, I loved this! I thought the story built up impressively well over such a short period of time, the reader is dropped right in the action straight away and yet the characters and settings are all developed swiftly and fully so you don't feel like you've missed out on anything!

I wasn't sure I was going to like the character of Daisy from the start of this story, she seemed like a typical city girl who didn't know the first thing about Scotland and wouldn't be able to cope with being snowed in in a remote location with only a grumpy author and a dog for company. This Seems to be how she views herself to begin with as well but the transformation that takes place over the course of the story is pretty impressive and I really liked her at the end, I really really want to find out what has become of her now, I think she deserves her own novel!

Rory is a typical recluse, a bit grumpy with a history he is trying to hide, but he also comes into his own as the story progresses, I think he too surprises himself with the ways I which he is prepared to change. The storyline as a whole was just totally heart warming. The dog has some puppies, bread is baked and there is Cashmere and knitted throws left right and centre. The setting is so well described and snidely described that I felt as if I was there and I wanted to stay there with Rory and the puppies looking out over the loch!

Overall I was bowled over with how lovely this short story was. As I've said I wished it was full novel it was just so good. I love wintery books that feature eating and cooking and so this was ideal for me. It had a total Trisha Ashley feel to it, and I could totally identify with the setting as well as the characters. I would recommend this to anyone as a lovely read for this time of year, it is the perfect length for the busy holiday season and is a good introduction to this author for anyone who has not come across her before!

I love short stories and when I saw this was available to request on Netgalley I jumped at the chance. Unfortunately I have only just got round to reading it, although after Christmas I was not disappointed with the story.

This is the first story I have read by Kate Fforde and I must say this is certainly not going to be the last. I found that the story flowed well and I really enjoyed her style of writing. Although only being a short story, I found everything fit in well, it didn't seem rushed and so much was packed in. Everything from the setting and characters are built up throughout the story so you really make a connection with them. This I feel is hard to do in a short story, but Kate Fforde achieved this well.

When I began to read the story, I imagined 'The Holiday' where Cameron Diaz turns up at a quaint cottage in the middle of the countryside and does not seem to fit in. This was the impression I got from Daisy, she is a city girl, who I imagine would struggle to cope in the country, especially in Scotland! She has gone to see Rory, an author, who did not sign enough book plates for her, she is the PR girl in charge of his book.

Rory is a bit of a recluse, he lives on his own in Scotland with his dog and likes his own company. When Daisy turns up on his doorstep he is unsure a, why she is there and b, what she is going to do when the storm sets in.

The story crams so much in, but it is done in a way where things aren't rushed. I is a lovely heartwarming story that is an unexpected read. You learn an awful lot from the characters in the story and begin to understand why they are the way they are.

My only negative is the length of the story, I enjoyed it so much I didn't want it to end. This would have been a great full length novel featuring Daisy and Rory. This is perfect if you want a quick read that is going to stay with you for some time. I would recommend everyone to read this festive novella and only wish it was longer.

I would like to thank the publisher for sending it to me in exchange for an honest review.
