Christmas Collision
Chelsea's driving home from Ohio State University for the Christmas holidays feeling she's got nothing to look forward to. Her father died from cancer in November, her boyfriend just dumped her, and her mom's fallen into such a deep depression, her health is failing. After Chelsea falls asleep at the wheel, she awakens to find herself on the ground surrounded by EMTs and is told she has a head injury and just totaled someone’s car. Just when it seems life is getting more hopeless than ever and no one understands her predicament, she meets the accident victim—a boy named Jake.

This is very good story for the holidays. The main character Chelsea is headed home to Flint, Mi from Ohio State University. The toll of finals, her dad’s passing in November and her mother’s failing health, have taken its toll. Instead of pulling over and getting some sleep, she pushes forth in a foggy state which is rudely interrupted by the cold air, warm flowing blood and a realization of what’s happened. Her life has spiraled to its final depths. Enter Jake.
That’s all I can say without giving away the plot. I will say this, as someone who has lost very dear loved ones over recent years, I could picture myself in many of the scenes. I can still see myself helping Debbie to another oncology appointment hoping she wouldn’t fall, or going grocery shopping as she gripped the cart with both hands.
Cons: There are some punctuation issues and missing words scattered through the story. Most were minor but few were jarring. Too many sentences began with the word And. An easy fix. There are others but with a little effort and an editor, no reason this can’t be a solid five star work.
Bottom line, this a really good story of loss, hope and love.
A solid four stars.

This novella rings true the old saying of, "Good things come in small packages".
Christmas Collision might only be a smaller novella, but it packs one hell of a punch.
Chelsea has just lost her dad, and through sheer grief, is about to lose a whole lot more. Her life is tumbling out of control, and just at her lowest point, she crashes in more way than one, meeting Jake in the middle of the worst possible circumstances.
I won't be one of those to let out spoilers, but I will just say this. Christmas Collision brings to light the true feeling and meaning behind Christmas--what most of us have forgotten amongst buying gifts and the whole holiday rush.
Short, sweet, and with a lasting feel-good vibe that is bound to leave you smiling, Devonshire had outdone herself with this beautiful piece.
