Letting ghosts pass through me to the other side isn’t what you’d expect from a nun, but neither is being an exorcist. The church is all I’ve ever known, and I accepted my fate long ago.
Until I met him.
He’s walking blood, unapologetic murder, and lust—the poster child for possession. I should be disgusted, but when I’m near him, I feel like I’m on fire.
At first, I tell myself it’s part of the curse, part of the possession. But when secrets begin coming to light, I realize the people who raised me lied to me my entire life. What part of me will win the battle between my heart and mind: the woman or the exorcist?

Pray for the Devil started off really slow and I wasn't sure if it was my type of read, but it started to really pick up towards the end and I'm intrigued enough to want to give the second book a chance. I felt bad for Eliza for the entirety of this story. She was living to please people, probably the wrong people, all to have a place to belong. She was devout, an exorcist for the church, but she quickly realizes that all is not as it seems. She's actually a very powerful witch and with the help of Luk, she begins to discover who she really is. I enjoyed the connection between these characters, despite the fact that their relationship literally blossomed from nothing, but I'm hoping to get more of them in the next book. I also really enjoyed her bestie, Olivia. I loved that she was a demon playing up as being a pious member of the church. Hilarious!
When I say this book is refreshing, I really do mean it. When I saw it was about a nun, I was sat here like 🤔, a nun?? With a triple moon and a triquetra on the cover... Are you mad?
But honestly, this book has had me hook, line and sinker. I really didn’t want to put it down and my God I can’t wait for the second one. Twists I didn't see coming, a mixture of Greek and Egyptian lore that has been interwoven so well. It's amazingly written, explanations exactly where you need it and characters you just love.
Eliza is the FMC and as a whole I really liked her. Her development throughout the book kept my attention! Luk is the MMC and his story is so interesting, I'm fascinated to see how he's going to develop. His modern day struggles genuinely had me laughing at points. I absolutely love Olivia. Just, yes. Absolutely yes to the sneaky snek.
There’s also some characters I’d absolutely love to punch, they really did get on my wick. But it’s absolutely done on purpose. I’m looking at you, Father Paul. We’re not even going to get into the others, that’s stuff people need to read about themselves.
“I’m a supernatural being, Eliza. We were never wrapped in the same constraints of mortal ethics. I want you. And I will have you. I knew it before and only stronger now. But I want you to understand me. I want you to understand this world. Because understanding will make you safe. And I need you safe.”
You know, he's not even grey but the obsession/devotion is everything.
I'm not even doing this book justice right now, just add it to your tbr. ✨
This book was excellent and well worth the read. I sat down to read in the early evening and stayed up waaaay too early(late?) the next morning so I could finish. The story had me hooked after the first few chapters.
The mix of supernatural, mythological, and religious themes were superb. The romance was integrated with the overall story and not an overdone set piece as seen with other novels in the genre.
The pacing was good. There may have been an opportunity to expand the story a bit in places without feeling like filler or dragging things out. I always want more of a well written story which grabs my attention, so even a slightly longer book would not have been long enough.
It is a great start to a new universe. Some novellas or even side novels/series of characters would be welcome as they introduce a lot of potential for other unrelated stories.
What a fantastic read! I've never read this author but she will definitely be added to my list. I like how she wove the real world into the supernatural world. Eliza's journey was fantastic and I cannot wait to see where it leads!
Fantastic story! The conflict between how she feels inside versus how she was raised was amazing. Having trauma from the church seems to be pretty common and it was interesting to hear that from a nun’s perspective. She’s not a very strict nun so things do get pretty steamy! Well worth the read!!!
This is truly a unique book of itself. It has supernatural, mythology, religion, and twists and turns that you don't see coming. I will admit first reading that the main character is a nun I was highly skeptical but am very surprised on how it was done and loved it.
I need the next one in the series so bad. This book had me hooked from the start, wanting to know about Eliza the nun who didn't seem quite like a nun. Then all the twists and turns that Maggie Maxfield threw into it, just wow, what a ride. She explains what you need to know at the perfect time and marries religion with the supernatural wonderfully. If you want a different paranormal romance story then this is the book for you it has witches, vampires, demons and the church. Highly recomend.
At last! I finally found my 5 star read this month! I am giddy to share my thoughts
First, its my firat time to read a paranormal romance genre, I am scare I might not liked it. I DNF and a good book couple of days ago because it feels boring. But this, this is sooo refreshing! Like a palate cleanser after all my vanilla romance 🤪 It’s story about a nun who is an orphan learning to an exorcist. All through her known life, Eliza struggle to fit in. She don’t know who is her parents, mo known relatives. Plus, she suffered a lot of bullying and abuse inside the church she called home, she doesn’t even want to be a nun! Like, bruh! A nun who is having s*x with some random guy in a bar is not like a nun 😇
Then, they met their new patient. A century old vampire way back during the time of Crusaders. It’s sooo cool! Acck! I mean, like I’m reading vampire diaries. Then while their getting to known each other, they feel the connection, the bond they share. Plus, a lot of smut! Of course, vampires are h*rny being 🤪
Second, along the way, Eliza find out the real truth about her identity that’s being kept from her for so long. That she is a powerful witch. A Hecate touched. A gatekeeper and a dead witch! She can see ghost and helping them during their crossing. It’s soo dope! (I remember Bonnie when she was the anchor from the other side)
Third, I am pissed with Father Paul, the priest! The one who’s controlling the church and the people around them. He’s using Eliza for his own good and his hatred towards her kind.
With the help of Lukman (our vampire hottie) she embrace her true identity and became the most powerful witch! I love the climax on how she channel Hecates’ power and send Sam (his ex friend who hates him because he watched all the smut videos of her and Luk - which, all the Fathers’ pla) and Father Paul with the hounds of the underworld. She is soooo coooll!!!
Plus! I forgot to mention her other nun friend Olivia which is a succubus! How cool was that! How she help her through her journey. She and Lukman is the vital persons in her life and she will not stop protecting them.
I love love love Lukman! He is sooo alpha male and how their intimate scenes burn! 🔥How he marked Eliza and how he sacrifice his soul just to protect her.
Highly highly recommended, I hope I can read the second book 🥰🥰
Started slow, this book keep up the pace qhen Lukman meet Eliza for the first time. I honestly tought this would be book one of a series where Eliza and Lukman story would continue, because how the story flows. So many things to swallow on the supernatural part. Lots of questions not answered at the end. Lots of blood should be shed for redemption for Eliza.
That's why less one star taken.
The chemistry was like "fated mate" kinda troop. Doesnt really feel like flowing, but it's there and couldn't be resisted. The steamy scenes are okay but not combustible for me.
The charachter background. While its good for Eliza, it was still blury for Lukman. He's a vampire, okay. But surely he have his own story, right? Beside being so old, speak arabic and hotdang smegsi... I need more for his background.
And on that note, i dont know what is the author background but when Lukman and Xavier exchange salam, does the author know what it mean? Cause its not just arabic words. That salam in Islamic are prayers. I was taken a back when that salam was out there so casually like its just arabic words. And to see a reviewer wrote the author done a good research for this book, i have to wonder. Did she?
The last reason why second star are missing were for the end. The whole story tells you how Eliza learn to find her power and in essence finding her true self. But at the end its all so supernatural great like a magic, everything and everyone was puff! Like that! And i'm not even sure if they all were dead or what.
Don't understand what i'm saying? I don't understand either with that ending. That's why three star.
Warrior Nun crossed with The Originals…. If you’re a fan of paranormal romance there is literally nothing you wouldn’t love about this book. It’s as seductive as its characters. Eliza is your perfect heroine… naïve yet rebellious, good yet flawed. The relationship she builds with Luk pulls you in bit by bit, fraught with tension and just the right amount of spice.
I look forward to reading more books in this series!
I love paranormal romance and I absolutely loved this book! I can absolutely relate to Eliza and her nervous habit and her feeling of not belonging. Thank the gods for Luk, the very sexy, very possessive vampire, who let's her know she is very unique and special. I will be recommending this book to all of my witchy, paranormal loving friends.
Absolutely love how all the different spiritual elements are woven together. Well written and Luk and Eliza are forever endeared to my heart! An absolute must read. I wait with abated breath for the next book
