La verdadera vida cristiana

Rate this book

Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").

Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.

A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.

This book does not deal with every verse of Scripture from First Peter as a commentary would do. This is a book that James L. Snyder wrote using the teachings of A. W. Tozer as he taught on the book of First Peter. The only chapter not using First Peter was the last chapter where Jude 3-4 is used. This is a good book teaching a Christian how to grow in the Christian life. This book is not for the unsaved but for Christians only.

Tozer aborda algunos pasajes de 1era de Pedro y los aplica a la vida cristiana. Sin duda es un libro dirigido al alma con detalles más que interesantes que te animan a perseverar sin desmayar en nuestra vida de cristiano.

PHENOMENAL BOOK!!! As anyone who has looked at my read list this year and last will notice I love 1 Peter, I feel it is a perfect book for where Christians in America are at and where we will soon be going. I think pastors could do a whole lot worse than preach from 1 Peter at least once or twice a year. Be that as it may I happened to find this used book at a library resale store and just put it on my shelf and forgot about it until mid-January when I was cleaning and noticed it. I promptly picked it up and read it, no I reveled in it. So many great chapters and all applicable for today. One would think Tozer was alive and well today by how applicable these truths are. And can I just say chapter 12 "The Christian Cannot be Harmed" is worth the price of the book, an amazing little chapter that I have reread twice and will go at it again soon. Highest recommendation!!!

With so much grabbing for our attention, we can easily have the wrong ideal about who God is then in turn have the wrong ideal about ourselves, and then have the wrong ideal about sin and because of all that we may miss Christ all together. AW Tozer is a very clear writer and teacher that whose focus is on the word and the character of God. Our true value is revealed. The teaching is relevant and more so today than any other time. It is the kind of book to be read slowly and deliberately to savor the substance of truth.

I've recently started reading Tozer, and I noticed this title as I was in a Bible study going through First Peter.

This is not a commentary. My impression is that it was a collection of seventeen sermons, sixteen of which were from First Peter (the last touched on Jude). This still gives insights on certain issues through Peter's first Epistle.

This is not in the category of his classics "Pursuit of God" or "Knowledge of the Holy". However, this is a very useful and instructive book.

Tozer points out and challenges us to be REAL Christians by reading the Bible and learning who God says He is, who God says we are and for us to believe and accept it and walk through life with our childlike faith. He uses illustrations to explain harder concepts such as casting our cares on God was explained using the idea of a bank transfer and putting a letter to mail in a drop box.

I really enjoyed this and hope to read it again.

To erase is always profound and exhibits an exceptional sense of where a Christian should point.

There were a few really amazing paragraphs or nuggets, but overall I was surprised I didn’t love it.

I always learn so much, when I read Towzer! I read through the scriptures as they are referenced, I’ve read over them many times but each time I learn something new!

Tozer goes through most of the verses in 1 Peter, giving an overall view of what it means to be a Christian: what the true Christian believes, how the true Christian acts, and how the true Christian lives in a fallen world.

I found some of the writing to be wonderfully deep and insightful, but other parts were almost childish in their simplicity. There's also a lot of repetition of the same ideas, same words, over again, and that got on my nerves.

The content is excellent with strong doctrine, but the writing is flabby and could use more editing.

Tozer sometimes makes fun of situations or beliefs of certain people, and his somewhat rude style of humor fell flat for me. Maybe because it was written in the 1950s era, I just don't get that sort of humor. We are much more careful about how we treat opposing beliefs these days, but Tozer comes right out and says, this person is idiotic in their beliefs. I prefer to see an apologist PROVE that false beliefs are idiotic, and not just say so. Maybe he just didn't have room in the book to disprove every fallacy though.

Not his best book, but still a wonderful read with lots of spiritual encouragement!

Oh to be blessed to have had the opportunity to hear Tozer's preach. This is a wonderful collection of Tozer's sermons on 1 Peter. He unwraps the character of Peter, our Messiah, and of God in a simple and direct way. What I appreciate about Tozer's is his willingness to X plain and discuss the whole of our Christian Faith, as taught from the Scriptures. Today, we have too many "prosperity preachers" and Christians who only want to view a one dimensional God. Within these chapters are many things to contemplate, and perhaps, to renew your mind and get right with God and in step with the Messiah, Jesus.

A good devotional style read. maybe not my favorite of Tozer's works, but still good doctrine and teaching over all and true to form of his typical almost prophetic insights.

I am going to have to read this again. Took me too long to read it so I don't feel strong either way about it. All I can say is it'd be worth a second reading.
