Baby Blues Scrapbooks #30

BEDLAM: A Baby Blues Collection

Rate this book
For more than 20 years,  Baby Blues has tickled and reassured overwhelmed parents. With Darryl and Wanda MacPherson's constant state of upheaval in parenting Zoe, Hammie, and Baby Wren, fans can recognize their own real-life Baby Blues moments. Now in an annual, treasury-sized book, Baby Blues brings you another year of life with the MacPhersons. Often-befuddled Darryl and always-overworked Wanda manage to parent precocious Zoe, ornery Hammie, and Baby Wren while still keeping their senses of humor and sometimes even sweetness. In this collection, Zoe decides it's time for her to take karate lessons, Wanda declares she needs some time for herself and joins a book (wine?) club, and Hammie discovers the joys of a zip line. Mostly calm Wanda finally reaches her breaking point of asking the kids to clean up, unleashing a new force of nature to the comic strip: the Tsumommy!

Many of the comics here made me laugh or smile because of how true they are; despite the fact that I'm a lifelong single and don't even want kids, what I've seen other parents having to deal with made this hit home all the more. However, the e-book edition I had made the comics so small, it was difficult to read the dialogue at times. If you have trouble reading tiny lettering, I suggest getting a print version instead.

One of my favorite serialized comic series. I started reading them when it was only Zoe giving them the baby blues. I still love to give the first book out as a gag gift at baby showers.

A good collection, this book includes such adventures as a well-baby checkup for Wren that surprises Wanda, an anniversary dinner for Darryl & Wanda that goes poorly, & Hammie's attempts to learn to exercise his attention span. A nice read for boosting the spirit.
