First Instalment in the Worthy of Love series, a short story told in a mini- series format depicting one girl's journey through love and redemption.
Eighteen year old Amanda Lowell's first day as a freshman at Montgomery University sucks. For one, there's Jennifer, the perfect beautiful girl who once used to be her friend and is now hell bent on making her life miserable by spreading gossip around campus - gossip that is true and just about alienates her from everyone except for best friend and roommate, Rene. And then there's Jack Daniels, her childhood crush. Amanda hasn't seen Jack since she was thirteen.
Amanda blames herself for the tragedy that befell Jack's family. The problem is Jack blames her too. He makes it clear he hates her, but that's okay...
I write under the pen name of H.C. Shota. I chose a pen name, because I think it gives an author less restrictions in the genre they write in. At the moment I currently write romantic short stories, but in the future I would like to explore other genres someday, say fantasy for example.
I live a couple of hours away from London (roughly two and and a half hours.) I enjoy the rainy weather of England. In fact winter is my favourite season.
I'm not sure what the author was thinking - or what alternative universe she lives in.
DUMB. DUMB. DUMB. SO DUMB IT HURTS.
I'm all for artistic licence and don't expect absolutely realistic novels but if books feature humans and planet earth than within the realms of reality would be nice.
Plot: it's not a bad plot, however overly dramatic and the "cause" behind the hatred was OTT. It ought to have been far less intense unless the author is prepared to commit to extensive research.
Characters: OTT again. A Poor-Me heroine and a angst-y hero. But not totally dire. Again it was the unrealistic setting and overly dramatic backdrop that ruined the character development. Overall: so we have a terrible crime committed by the heroine's father against the hero's sister (that's obvious from the first few pages). The heroine's mother doesn't think it's in her interest to leave the small city they live in (despite the UK having loads of cities - not to mention the wider EU community where they could relocate to). Rather she'd allow her daughter to suffer the shame and bullying despite her daughter being committed due to the psychological trauma of it all.
The author clearly knows very little of how Social Services in the UK works. If this was reality then Social Services would heavily be involved to the point of relocating the family in order to spare the heroine further distress - psychically and mentally. There would be constant visits and other interference.
JUST SHUT UP. YOU'RE STUPID. Then there's the fact that despite all that the heroine decides to attend the same University as all the people who were part of the bullying team as well as related to the victim hurt by her father. There's thousands of universities in the UK and considering the Heroine is living in dorms - why not relocate to one of those? Change your name at the same time and apply for a court injunction to remove any listing of your name on the internet. In fact these things would have been done by the authorities (the UK is a civilised country where minors will not be implicated in crimes and al their details will be removed from the internet should it be leaked). Then there's all the drama on how the hero repels any female due to his background with girls crying that "it's so unfair" and it's all the heroine's fault for being the b*tch to attend the same university as him. Seriously - that's so OTT and pathetic.
Anyway after reading a few chapters I canned this. It's hilarious bad.
Where is the rest of the story? It was really good, then BAM it's over. I wonder if the second book is out? I also hope the next book is a actual book not a novella. Great Start to a emotional journey. This is my type of read, I'm going to check this Author out.
Am I the only one, when reading this, I just wanted so badly to cry for her...? I mean she wasn't crying at all with the hate and crap she had thrown at her from everyone... ...then came the part where her and Jack kissed and I was... confused at first cause I was expecting her to yell at him for not at least standing up for her when his mum bitch-slapped her in front of her at the party... then I was more confused cause she just sort of dove into his arms after the way he treated and made her feel like shit. The end probably moved a little to fast between Amanda and Jack for me. But I am still intrigued to read the following books. I like how short the story was and took me like half an hour to read.
The characters are well written and I think if this author was to write more lengthy novel types she would be a success. Her writing style is great and hooks you in. Waiting for that fantasy book H.C. Shota ;).
Okay read but too short. I hate when authors write a bunch of short stories instead of just one novel. This could be a good story if the rest of it is good.
This book is good and I actually will give it 3.5 stars because it's to short for me. I saw the second one is out and its much shorter then this one but not worth 2.99. But overall good storyline.
I wasn't sure how I would like this story. It does touch on the murder and rape of an underage girl, but I found that it was abstract enough that it didn't taint the story.
