This is a very scary story whether true or fiction. I can't imagine living in a haunted environment and that is what makes this fast, short story so creepy.
The story is based on a true haunting of a young couple who are engaged and very much in love. Shortly after they move into this house the young man starts seeing blurs out of the corner of his eyes and then starts hearing whispers which he can't make out the words and then their bedroom door starts opening and they hear footsteps and knocks etc. They try to rationalize everything in the beginning and it starts to take a toll on their relationship. The man seems to experience more than his fiancee but he doesn't handle the events as well as she does. He starts to drink more and more to quiet his fears but this only aggravates the problems in his relationship. There are many more eerie and frightening events that follow and you will find yourself asking the question " Did this really happen? ".
I enjoyed this quick read and found myself wanting to know more about these hauntings. I found this book scary, intense and very creepy. I think G.L. Davies did a terrific job writing this story and I will certainly read moe of his books about haunted places.
I highly recommend this book for any reader but especially for those interested in any way with the paranormal.
I have given this book a rating of 4 haunted 🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars!!

A haunting story, captured me from the first page.
Firstly, I do believe in the paranormal and have read a lot of books, true accounts and many documentaries. But it's simple for me, I have, more than once experienced paranormal events at different times in my life. When it happens to you, no matter what, as a sand person you know it is real. It's that simple.
I am trained in assisting Pastors in Christian deliverance ministry, the non-Catholic version of an exorcism. Over years i have seen things beyond evil torment both individuals and places and also seen exchanges when those dark attachments arguably made to leave.
Sarah and John's story, relayed in their own words was interesting and saddening. It sounds like what they went through similar to other yellows of hauntings. I do believe their story. It has common aspects of a haunting that lines up with hundreds of others. How I wish they had called in an Excorcist or Deliverance team though. I have seen the positive outcomes of these entities being defeated by the power of knowing how to use the bible to achieve this. It's not so out there, it's been used for thousands of years.
I studied the cases that the famous Ed and Lorraine Warren were involved in, truly demonic possessions and hauntings. Despite long battles victory occurred.
John's depression and heaviness living in a haunted place is common. I have experienced it myself. When I've left the homes early the depression lifted. They want you to suffer. I'm not surprised it impacted their relationship. That's something I see often.
The author hasn't been able to research or "test" the house but in telling their story, in their own words it's easy to read and get engrossed in. If like to know why they didn't call on the church and/or a paranormal investigative traffic help. I believe the ending would be different if they had.
Any follow-up interviews with others who have !others would be a great book too. It's not a long book and I read it over couple of ours. Very interesting and I do recommend it. I'm now going on to read the authors other book.
One day, maybe more things will be written about deliverance ministry which gets less coverage than Catholic exorcisms. Most would not know their local contemporary church can help. Maybe as an author I should tell those accounts.
No matter what you believe, John and Sarah's experience is bound to intrigue you. We are both fascinated and afraid of things we cannot explain right? 4 stars from me. PS: I write under pen name Maxine Grey. I'd love to swap stories with the author...infact, my town boasts one of England's oldest pubs, know to be haunted.
I was so enjoying this quick read. It is easy to understand and spooky. That is until Sarah (the female protagonist) goes into cold bitch mode then I spent the remainder of the story hating her worse and worse. She totally knocked this story down a star cuz she turns my enjoyable creepy feelings into just being pissed off. But outstanding story telling Mr. Davies
A good book but full or grammar errors and typos. I love a good haunting read but this seemed a bit far fetched in some parts. It wasn't as scary as I hoped but this could be down to the grammar distracting the story, I also, found the story to be one sided; his view, though I couldn't warm to her by the end of the book, makes me wonder if she played a part in it all to get rid of him.
This , was recommended to ,me, by a cousin. and it didn't disappoint. Though only a slim book, it is scary, Emma and John (not their real names,) move into a terraced house in Wales, it looked a normal house, and even though the owner dropped twenty thousand off the original price, and couldn't wait to get rid of it, they thought nothing of it, but they should of. First it was little things, catching a shadow out of the corner of the eye, things being moved, then , the footsteps, oh God the footsteps. coming up the stairs and stopping right outside the bedroom door! Slowly things got worse. Even if you are a non believer , this will have you wanting to leave the lights on,, A true tale of a vile haunting!
I decided to read this because my boyfriend knows the author and assured me it was a nice little read. I have to say, it scared me! I was scared in the beginning before hardly anything had happened, let alone the rest! I was disappointed by the ending, but this is a true story so it couldn't have been written any other way. Not only did I enjoy the transcripts of what happened but I enjoyed how it was written, even though I'll be sleeping with my light on this evening, it was worth it!
This book isn't bad, just not very interesting. If you like ghost stories but don't like scary ghost stories, this is the book for you. It's a very fast read.
I enjoyed this. The writing style made the book engrossing and quick to read. Even if there are more spelling mistakes than I would have liked.
Not keep you up at night scary but definitely creepy, if like me, you believe in all that kind of stuff.
Liked it that much that I'm going straight on to read another of his books, even if it is cringely called 'Ghost Sex' 😂 hopefully it's good. The book not the ghost sex 🤔 ha ha.
I state that outright because I was not aware of it until I noticed the word "novel" while skimming the closing credits of the book. After reviewing the original description, it does state that it is a novel, but only once and I missed it, so I read this thinking it was factual. For me, that changes reading perspective. So be aware. The story is well written, gripping, the events harrowing and very frightening. The author's use of transcripts interspersed with author notes and comments is quite effective and adds to the nonfiction, documentary feel of the book. The book is solely about the haunting so we don't have character development, scenery, etc nor are they needed . It is fast paced and rarely lags. My sole issue is with our heroine, whom I found to be a selfish, self-centered, monopolistic, slutty cow lacking in empathy, kindness, human decency, or even plain fair play. But the book is great! Highly recommended haunted house story.
A well written and engaging read. It actually made me not want to turn off the light before bed. More subtle than the brutal Ghost sex: The violation but it's the fact that you are brought into a very private and personal world that makes it so much more compelling. I would love to see this made into a movie as it would be about people and how they are effected and not CGI ghosts and monsters. Good luck trying to sleep after this one. Great read.
Often wonder why people stay in houses with an atmosphere, then I remember Grandma who lived in a terraced house in Leicester which had an atmosphere of it's own. The family moved in in 1940 and we went to live with her in 1985, finally leaving in 1989. Spooky story but no pictures which would have added to the story.
Loved this book, was short but straight to the point, very well written and made even better as it's a true story and based 5mins away from where I live. Not usually into horror or paranormal books but really enjoyed this. Look forward to more from this author!! x
This was a pretty interesting book. As an investigator and someone who has had firsthand experiences myself I have a special interest in the subject matter. At the outset of the book I was kind of disappointed that there were no investigations done. I had been hoping the book was about an investigation or series of investigations in the home. That being said, once I accepted that and readjusted my expectations it was interesting to read the interviews of the various people involved. Obviously nothing in this can be presented as evidence and you have to take these as first hand encounters/ experiences instead. It was interesting. I didn’t set out hoping to make a determination about what actually was happening, I just think their accounts are food for thought. You never know when info may become relevant in your own life, or not.
I found my copy in a wonderful second hand bookstore, and although the printed copy I have has quirks (no page numbers, some punctuation and grammatical errors) I’d definitely recommend this read for anyone with an interest in the paranormal.
Wow! What an wonderful book! I absolutely could not put it down. Of course, a ton of book reviewers say they couldn't put this or that book down (and although I rarely find that I really have all that much trouble to put a lot of books down), A Most Haunted House, by G.L. Davies, was definitely one of those rare instances where my eyes were absolutely, totally and completely riveted to the printed page from beginning to end.
There are no chapters to speak of in the book, and the author really only makes an appearance at the beginning and the end, so the vast majority of the story is told in the first person narrative, by the couple who lived in that most haunted house referred to in the title. There is absolutely no need for chapters or other niceties however, as the good scary stuff kicks in almost immediately, the narrative flows effortlessly, and best of all, the eery momentum keeps the reader turning the pages until the very last spooky period at the end of the very last spooky sentence.
But is it really all that scary? Hmm. Well, I read an awful lot of ghost stories, so I wouldn't say it's the most frightening book about the paranormal that I've personally ever encountered. But there are definitely some genuinely creepy moments, especially near the end. So don't say I didn't warn ya!
All in all, this really is a wonderfully chilling true ghost story, and I would highly recommend it to almost anyone. Well... not to most arrogant, prejudiced "skeptic" types, of course. And it's definitely not a good book for young children. Or anyone who is easily frightened, of course. But most inquisitive readers with an open mind couldn't help but be left pondering some very deep questions about what really happens to human consciousness after death, after reading a truly haunting tale like A Most Haunted House. Great book! And surely, one that will not soon be forgotten. And really... how can anyone ask for much more from any book?
The author's approach to this book is one that I wish other paranormal investigators would take, one of both skepticism and open mindedness. I am personally one who tends to believe in paranormal phenomenon, including haunted houses, although I have never had any personal experiences to really develop a firm belief. This book is both entertaining and thought provoking regardless of what you believe about the paranormal.
Pembrokeshire is a fascinating region of Wales in general, and had a reputation for hauntings and other paranormal phenomenon. G.L. Davies incorporates transcripts of individuals who experienced a haunting in a house in this region of Wales. The story is gripping in how those involved experienced strange phenomenon that intensified over time and went from minor incidents to truly frightening ones.
I read the ebook on Kindle Unlimited, but for the low price of the paperback ($5.39 as I write this), I plan to pick up a physical copy.
I enjoyed the feel of this book and how the story was told through the words and memories of the couple involved. The author did a great job of investigating and tracking down the right people to speak to and I enjoyed the research that went into the book about the location. I know the author is very open about keeping the details of location and identities of those involved a secret and that is to be respected. I was saddened to hear how the owner of the house moved on, by not telling anyone who rents the house of what has occurred. I feel that keeping this a secret is just as awful as it was when it was done to them. It was really her personality that changed, not his. She became a completely different person and took some of the negativity with her while turning her back on her partner. Maybe it was her who caused more events by her negative attitude? Never know.
I really enjoyed this book. I believe every word of it. The only critique I have is there was no proofreading done. For this reason it was very difficult to read. If you publish another book would love to read it, but please have a proofreader have a go at it first.
4-stars This was a fantastic short story. And by "fantastic" I mean it's the PERFECT book to spook you at 3AM. You know when you have to remind yourself you don't believe in demons and devils and ghosts and whatnot, it got ya. It sure got me.
I love everything paranormal. Fiction or real life. I’m very fascinated by it all. I really enjoyed reading this book, the accounts from actual real people who have experienced some terrifying moments from spirit.
Good read, interesting to see what people have been through, and it was nice that the author decided to let the reader make up their own mind, and not push them into a corner.
I read this book and the Ghost Sex Violation was included on the Kindle copy as well and I have to say it was one of the best real paranormal reads I have ever had!
The author has put together two really well written accounts and the ;protagonists come across as honest and passionate. Thus the two main stories are believable and very compelling.
Its not for the faint-hearted. So if you are easily offended by descriptions of rape and sodomy, this really isn't for you. BUT if you find these accounts fascinating as I do the I compel you to read them. Some of the most horrifying accounts I have ever read but so well put together that even sceptics would have difficulty accepting this really happened.
I really felt for all parties concerned and this was because G L Davies has done a great job. My only criticism is there are several spelling mistakes but I was so compelled I hardly noticed.
This purports to be a true story of the most terrifying kind. It didn't terrify me, but it was interesting. The story of the haunting itself lead me shout "don't these people have satellite TV" ( and yes they did- it's part of the story), a ten minute cruise through satellite channels would bring up half a dozen or so true life Ghost hunting shows that would a) give them ideas how to sort it out (they didn't seem to have a clue), and b) show them that things could be much worse! Don't get me wrong I wouldn't be happy to live with what they lived with- but is anyone this day and age that clueless? For me what was more interesting was how the relationship broke down under the stress, that side of the story was very sad, and well written. All in all , I liked the way it was written, but felt that it fell down on the fear factor.
This was an unusual way to tell the story but I rather enjoyed hearing one person's comments followed immediately by the other people involved. I found the tale to be simply stated, not sensationally presented and believable by virtue of it's understatement. Someday when I write my stories down I hope to write them as clearly and as credibly.
First things first: I wasn’t expecting this to read like it did. Much like a transcript, which is totally not my thing. Had this read like a fiction novel with actual characters telling the story, I’m almost positive my rating would have gone up. (This author is new to me and the description did not specify this.)
That being said, I enjoyed the content. I was thoroughly creeped out. So I’d say the book did its job. The author’s stories (this is actually two in one) interested me enough to go back to their other work later in time.
I applaud the author for all their research put into this writing. You can tell they took their time and put effort into their theories and opinions of others.
It's a very short and easy reading book. The story was interesting; it didn't frighten me, but I did like its emphasis on the consequences that the haunting had regarding Sara and John's relationship. There were some spelling errors and I would've liked the author to improve the transcription-like format in which the book was written, but, in general, it was a good read.
I do believe in ghosts an this albeit a short story I wonder as to why they didn't ask for help or is just me. John should've stood his ground an be the man that he was said we need to do something rather than hit the bottle in the way he did an maybe he an Sarah would still be together today. But I've given it 5⭐ for the story alone.
