Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.

Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.

One of my least favorite volumes, ranking somewhere with Sasuke's flight battles. I get tired sometimes of endless battles with people I haven't grown up with and enjoyed over lots of growth and experience. These just show up, have their big reveals, and then fade away... and I'm like... so what?

On the other hand, when Chouji shows up, I perk up again. Enough with the backstory... now I want some advanced battle techniques... you fatass. :)

I shed tears. Actual tears. Reading this at work.

This volume continues the war between the Shinobi alliance and Tobi-Kabuto-EveryDeadNinjaEver. The meeting between Ino, Shikamaru, Chouji and Asuma was one that I had dreaded. Chouji is truly a character that has grown and developed over the series. I'm glad to see him get his epic moment.

I think that it's fine to have information on characters that I have little interest in, but I think that their inclusion this late into the story is unnecessary...

I also think that the focus on certain characters was random and making Team 10 prove themselves for Asuma's sake is redundant and unnecessary. I thought that they had already shown their development when they fought against Hidan and Kakuzu, so making them go through their zombified teacher was just for shock value. It didn't seem to do much for the characters, except for making Chōji show off his strength... Then again, Kishimoto had already shown what Chōji is capable of and that he's usually the gentlest of his team. If Kishi really needed to show his readers that Chōji developed, then he should have fought someone else who is more relevant to the current arc.

I love reunions and all, but I'm getting tired of this reanimation jutsu. Using the dead to do their bidding... that's so messed up! Naruto is getting suspicious about everything now. I want to see him in action!

I am so over this ninja war thing. This segment of story introduces dozens of new characters and tries to make me care about them, but there's just so much info dumping that my eyes are glazing over. I'll be happy when this war is over.

My main issue with this volume is that the golden and silver brothers plot was extremely boring, I didn’t feel like it discussed any particularly interesting themes nor did it help develop any interesting characters, i kinda liked how it discussed loyalty, but again they didn’t really expand on that and the conclusion was boring and only conforming the well known traits of the hierarchical system of the shinobi world where loyalty and nationalism is way more important than individuality and personal ambition.

On the other hand, starting from chapter 531 the events really picked up, i really like the whole Mufane and Hanzo confrontation, Hanzo is a reacquiring character in the series and one of significant importance since he was the one who acknowledged and helped expand the popularity of the legendary trio and he was in control of the rain village as its dominant war lord for a very long time after the third great ninja war. So it’s fair to say he wasn’t just any character and he always had this mysterious presence, and now i feel like we got the answers to his motives.

I really loved how he was used to explain how war and the unfair and violent nature of the Shinobi world is a fertile place to kill one’s pure motives and eventually corrupts morality and sense of justice, i mean Hanzo lives in a world where the only way to achieve peace is through blood and violence, and eventually after fighting wars and killing hundreds if not thousands of people he must lose his sense of purpose and eventually reaches the conclusion that in life there’s nothing but death. I really loved how they dealt with that and how a Samurai was the perfect mirror for Hanzo to reflect on himself in and eventually reach a redeemed ending. It was perfect.

I also liked how they used Asuma’s return to develop Choji’s character and strengthen the bonds of team Asuma, it was heartwarming.

The war continues, first we have Darui vs Kinkaku and Ginkaku brothers and wow the fight is something, they using the 5 sacred treasures of hidden cloud and the battle is monstrous, Darui loses 2 of his comrades also but then we see the brothers nine tails history and when Gin is lost, Kis sorta transforms into the Kyuubi as once they were trapped inside the nine tails and ate its meat so, but how Team 10 is able to defeat him is something, and then we have Team 10 coming again to defeat their revived sensei Asuma and the fight awakens something inside Chouji and their battle is super emotional, final words said, final farewell made and the students grow up, it was a emotional roller coaster of a volume and Naruto senses something wrong is going on. It has lots of twists and turns and like by focusing on each facet of the war, it just shows its scope and magnitude! The war rages on!

This is a review of the entire series.

Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people.

Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world.

Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child.

On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time.

Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers.

Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption.

Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes.

The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes.

The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on.

On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story.

Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc...

Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.

Seeing the old villains who were given dedicated episodes seems to be a drag.
Liked the Hanzou's angle . Funny, how everyone started with the pursuit of peace.
Aptly said , peace is the biggest cause behind war.

The reason this book is getting a 5 star is for the Asuma and Ino-chuzi-shiki battle.
Beautiful how the strong shinobis in living are still master of their own mind.
Beautiful to see the battle. Though villains , yet allies.
I feel Kabuto is failing big time. Kabuto just delivered a dud . Wonder what was Madaara's plan as the entire battle is being carried on by Kabuto and his resurrection.
Was Madaara planning the great ninja war with only white zetsus?
Loved the way they are showing the feudal lord and their indifference .

Loved the Ginkanu-Kinkanu angle also. Always a big sucker for shiki's style.

Its in the middle of the great ninja war and dead are rising one after another. One powerful than the other. The highlight of this volume was the fight between Darui and Kinkaku and Ginkaku. For me though, it was the fight between Mifune and Hanzo. The two already clashed blades before Hanzo was dead. Again they come face to face, but this time circumstances have changed. I really like the quote by Hanzo : "A dull blade does not last! Remember people are like swords!" And then Ino-Shika-Cho formation reunites to take down their Master. Chouji matured a bit in this volume after facing his fear and overcoming it-rejuvenated by his replenished confidence. And Naruto at last realizes that all is not well in the outside world and tries to join the fight.

Darui is one of the few side characters who gets to be on a cover, and in the spine. There's so few but this boy got there. Unfortunately he's sharing it with Kin/Gingaku who have such horrendous designs. What is on their heads? Is that hair or is it meant to be like the sage's fan? Where did the horns come from, well retrospectively I know some other people who had horns, but their important descendents don't. Even Naruto's confused.

Darui deserves to be here and he deserves his future promotion. He earned it. Unlike Bee and A, he's quite a chill guy, but no less passionate about his nation, village and comrades. He's thinking of all of them when he's fighting, even when he thinks he's been taken by the word gourd, he's only got his people on his mind. The line about how Kin/Ginkaku would know the value of words if they spoke to Bee was really very sweet. He see's Bee and the importance of (mediocre) rap to who he is. Darui's also a good choice for leader because he's a Shikamaru type, and not just because they're both kinda lazy. Drab and Drag. He's a strategist who can think quickly and fit new information from HQ into his plans. He's also just cool to be honest. "Looks like you were just gold-plated anyway."

Those word sealing weapons are faulty. "Timid Rabbit" does make drab. The "d" sound at the end of timid is not the same "d" sound in drab.

Ino-Shika-Cho are the standout for me. That's a real team. Team 7 were just too individualistic. Even when they worked together (just Naruto and Sasuke to be honest) it was more them reacting to the other's action without thinking it through. Team Asuma actually use their powers to each other's advantage and take it into account when taking action. This is the TEAMWORK we were battered over the head with in the earlier story. The way they caught each other! Where Choji falters, Ino catches him; where Ino misses a step, Shikamaru makes it. They displayed wonderful sequences in their fight against Kin or Ginkaku and against Asuma.

This fight against Asuma was Choji's moment. His first since all the way back when he fought Jirobo for Sasuke's retrieval. Calling him "fat" is not it anymore. He needed something more to fight and truly become who he was meant to be. And it was basically the will of fire. He had to protect the future and his position as clan head. The butterfly reveal was transformative. I personally love it. Choji's new design post time skip was always great. He basically looks like his dad but the upgrade from the underwear on his head to the long wild tresses is a true glow up. Came out thinking "good for him."

Did anyone want a sort of redemption for Hanzo? Because I do not care for it. He was partly responsible for what became of Pain and I'm not forgiving that. Yeah the whole speech about conviction and whatnot was nice, but everyone is out here trying to hop in on Naruto's game. Talking people down is his signature move.

Naruto has finally made his escape, with Bee's assistance I believe. He's coming and the war will truly begin. I've missed seeing him in action.

This volume starts with Darui, a character we barely know and don't care about, fighting some randoms with Nine Tails' chakra. How did they get Nine Tails' chakra? They were swallowed by the fox at some point. When was that some point? Wasn't the Nine Tails in control of Konoha and with a Jinchuriki or sealed in a jar somewhere like Shukaku was for Gaara? Nope it was at some point, and some point relatively recently since these two villains died to the second Hokage. But here they are! And with overly complicated specific ninja tools that are only going to be relevant for the handful of chapters they're featured here! Oh and these brothers? Why can they handle Nine Tails chakra and not die? Because they're related to the Sage of Six Paths! No, not like the Senju and Uchiha we just spent multiple volumes elaborating on, this is some random off-shoot family from an entirely different part of the world.

Oh and here's a woman who can transport objects at the speed of light, we finally get an OP female character... and she's a secretary who sends letters and stuff and never does anything really useful.

And then we get to an Edo Tensei Asuma versus our Ino-Shika-Cho trio! Remember how Sasori was revived, immediately remembered that he had a strong emotional connection, and unrevived because said emotional connection already happened back when Sasori first died? Yeah, here's Asuma, fighting his students! Woo! More of that! Choji, no longer motivated by the need to protect his friends like in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc, is now motivated by wanting to be loved and the possibility of marriage and stuff like that. It turns out that Ino-Shika-Cho isn't just a bond between clans it is politically relevant or orchestrated by the Hokages, and those design quirks they shared that seem pretty neat because they're close friends are actually important political statements! And Choji is the sixteenth head of the Akimichi clan, who are close with the Ino-Shika-Cho clan, but there are only three or four generations of Konoha so how is the Hokage involved in their closeness? It doesn't matter. We're in the final arc. None of this stuff was introduced before, and none of it will matter again because the series is almost over and there's no time left to build on this stuff.

It's all pointless. None of this needs to happen. The most the plot here develops is the final chapter where Naruto says he has to pee. That's it! It's a bunch of random fights we don't care about because we don't know the combatants or we've already seen the drama happen earlier and it was better then.
