Lord Dominic is in need of a wife. With the reivers, the wild and dangerous criminals that haunt the borderlands, breathing down his neck and his brother now married, he needs a strong woman by his side. So when he finds out about an old marriage contract between him and his neighbour’s daughter, he vows to give the mysterious woman a chance. Upon meeting the beautiful, feisty maiden, he vows to make her his wife.

Lucy Montgomery wants nothing to do with the arrogant lord. She doesn’t understand his interest in her. Surely a man like Dominic could never fall for a woman like her? Hurt by the past, she refuses to believe that she is anything more than a game to him. If only she didn’t find him quite so charming.

Can Dominic persuade Lucy that she is more than just another woman to him? And with the reivers growing bolder, are there worse dangers than Lucy saying ‘nay’?

I was looking forward to Dominic’s story, since he seemed fun in the previous book!
Unfortunately, for the poor Dominic, he was really unlucky with the girl he got!

Lucy decided not to like Dominic since he treated her badly when they were children and he has a reputation of a rake. So, like a petulant child, she condemns him on gossip only. Even when witnessing his good actions, she don’t believe them!

But at the same time, she’s powerfully attracted to him…

Poor Dominic is confused. He likes her, he speaks with her, he shows her that he is a honorable man, but Lucy is stubborn! She simply refuses to believe him.

After many, many attempts to convince her of his honorable intentions, he’s discouraged…

Just when Lucy starts to believe him and things are getting better between them, she eavesdrops a snippet of conversations and, obviously, misunderstands the meaning and condemns Dominic once again!

And after the umpteenth condemnation, I would have let her go, but Dominic is not me and he forgives her and is grateful for her love…

I wouldn’t call it love…

Still, if he’s happy with that, what can we do?

I don't even know where to begin. This could have been a good book, and I was involved in the story until....

1) The historical inaccuracies- This is set in the 14th century according to the Goodreads description. In one section, Lucy goes into the church, sits in a pew and picked up a hymnal. Later, she goes into Dominic's library, which is described as extensive, and picks out a book to read because she loves to read. NO, NO, NO! None of these is possible!

2) The overuse of the exclamation "Ack!". It seemed that every other sentence one of the characters used that exclamation- 62+ times! It got to the point that I yelled every time someone used that!

This is my first book by Samantha Holt and let me tell you, it won't be my last! :) I quite enjoyed Borderland Beauty. I have only recently (as in, like 3 days ago! lol) converted to a Historical Romance lover. This book has been added to the list of favorites! I really liked Lucy and on some level I felt I could kinda relate to her. She was somewhat socially awkward, not used to going to the party's and balls and such. She's basically hidden herself away due to her low self esteem about her body. As a young girl, she was considered "buxom" or as we like to say, curvy! She even overheard a young lad (not naming names) compare her looks to a "wild boar" which struck her deep and festered, causing her to believe no man would ever want to marry 'a girl like her'.

Her family is invited to Lord Dominic's for the holidays, a yearly tradition, and she goes under duress. ;) While her mother is trying to marry her off, she doesn't think she will catch the eye of any of the eligible bachelors, let alone the roguish Lord Dominic Thornwall, whose reputation preceded him. He is a handsome lord who can (and has) had any woman he desires. Boy was she in for a surprise! ;) Lucy was a strong willed, somewhat stubborn Lady who cared for her people but just needed the right man to show her she was just as beautiful on the outside as she was on the inside. Lucky for Lucy, Dominic was up for that challenge!

Lord Dominic Thornwall was a great hero. He had some of everything I love to see. He was handsome, smart, loyal and when he fell for Lucy, he fell hard and deep into the possessive love pit! I felt like he was open minded about meeting Lucy and he never seemed anything but honest with her. He didn't have an agenda. Yes, he needed a wife, but he wasn't deceitful or plotting about it. Even though he knew there was a marriage contract drawn up between his mother and Lucy's parents from when they were just mere babes, he wasn't planning to force Lucy into upholding it. He wanted her to want him because she genuinely did. See, roguish Lords can be honorable too! I also felt like his interest in Lucy was genuine from the first look. It was very refreshing! Lucy did have a hard time coming to believe his intentions were sincere and Dominic took that in stride. He never went overboard and he did everything he could to show her his burgeoning feelings for her were legitimate.

Out of all the supporting characters, I had a few favorites. ) While I haven't read the first book, I immediately liked Jake. He seemed aloof and mysterious, but definitely like someone I'd want more from. I will be reading his book for sure! Next in line is Winnie, who acted as Lucy's chambermaid (not sure that's the correct term...) I loved her! She was the meddling and somewhat overbearing (in a good way) mother-figure-esq. She was loyal to her Lord Dominic but didn't paint him in any light that wasn't honest. She knew he 'got around' but that that didn't mean he wasn't a good man. She was immediately taken with Lucy and at times, took it upon herself to set Lucy straight when she needed it. She was also funny as hell! I also loved Lucy's parents. They loved Lucy dearly and it was clear who 'wore the pants' in that relationship! (Lucy's mom!) ;)

Overall, I really liked Borderland Beauty! It was a fun and lighthearted book about finding love. My only complaint, and its not a biggie, there were a few minor editing errors. Other than that, it was a solid book that I'm very happy to add to my HR shelf!

Dominic, Lord of Thornewall, needs to find a strong wife now more than ever with his brother now married and busy with his own lands and border reivers becoming more and more of a violent threat. When an old marriage contract between himself and a neighbor's daughter comes to light, Dominic decides to give it a chance. Then when he meets her, Dominic decides she must be his wife.

Lucy Montgomery was hurt by Dominic's careless words in the past and wants nothing to do with his arrogance now. She knows she could never hold Dominic's attention permanently and wishes she didn't find herself quite so susceptible to his charms. Lucy has nurtured her hatred of Dominic for years and wholeheartedly believes the gossip that exaggerates his bedtime activities with women.

Lucy annoyed me with her outright hatefulness, but I can understand her reasons as a fellow ugly duckling. I just hated that she put so much stock into gossip rather than trying to get to know Dominic and forming her own opinions, although I could understand her not trusting her own judgment due to her own reaction to Dominic and his charm. Dominic has never cared what people who don't know him have said about him, but he does now that his rakish reputation threatens his future happiness. Lucy has no self-confidence, mostly because she took Dominic's flippant words so much to heart all those years ago, so annoying as it was at times, her reaction to Dominic's attraction to her is rather realistic.

Lucy finds that she genuinely enjoys Dominic's company, much to her surprise, and begins to wonder if his intentions toward her could be true. But Lucy is determined to protect herself from potential heartbreak and will not give him an inch. Even when the increasingly bold attacks by the reivers reveal her concern for his safety, Lucy is still not willing to truly give Dominic a chance; by the time she recognizes his true character, it may be too late for them.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Borderland Legacy #2

Borderland Bride was a great read, so I was more than happy to read this book and loved the fact that it was Dominic’s turn at romance. Dominic’s reputation precedes him, and Lucy is determined not to be another notch on his bedpost though the chemistry between them is immediately obvious. Circumstances throw Dominic and Lucy closer together, and she soon sees him for the man underneath the arrogance. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable read with heart-warming romance, and the story kept me completely absorbed from start to finish as we get to see their happy ending.

I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Maybe I would have enjoyed this when I was younger, but I've read too many romance novels that are too similar for me to find any pleasure in this one. Miss Holt needs a better editor, one who won't let her use the same phrase twice in two consecutive paragraphs, and will cut the word "ack" from any manuscript.

A quick and enjoyable read. It delightfully describes the courting of Lucy Montgomery by Dominic, the Lord of Thornewall. I like the fact that the H/h have determined and strong personalities. Lucy is insecure of her looks but projects a firm countenance. She is argumentative, brave and compassionate. Dominic is a charmer. But he is also the Lord of the Keep and shoulders the responsibility of it well. He is a kind and generous Lord to his people and he spares ought to protect them. When danger approaches and threatens Dominic and Lucy, they work together for a solution. I read this book as part of a box set Borderland Legacy. There isn't quite enough angst to get on that shelf; or maybe it just felt a bit shallow - the heroine would occassionally vaguely fret about whether the hero could be interested in her but overall there was less angst and just more, I don't know, mistrust. I liked the overheard insult (one of my favorite tropes) but it felt pretty glossed over. Also would have liked it more if she had been plump, or plain.
I liked it ok. (2.5 stars)

Our Review

Another great story !Samantha Holt is a new author to me an I am really love reading the tales that she has been writing of late. This time around it has been a series of some hunky Highlander's that I am just crazy about.Love reading anything medieval so this series was right up my alley.

This story was filled with love romance and danger surrounding Lord Dominic. The land is in unrest and the outlaws are creating havoc all across the neighboring clans. He needs a wife and a partner to help him through this troubled time.Dominic learns of a betrothal made long ago between Lucy Montgomery and himself. In need of a wife he plans on winning Lucy's heart.

This story takes place in the winter and around the Christmas season making it even more romantic.Lord Dominic is a fierce fighter and warrior worthy of a wife.He has wealth and is a well liked Lord. Now all he has to do is convince Lucy to become his wife. Well, romance is never easy as Lucy has heard of all the exploits of Lord Dominic and wants nothing to do with this rake of a man.

This story was one of those love and hate relationships but, sparks fly between this couple that neither is able to ignore.Dominic wants to court Lucy to win her heart and her love and does not want her to find out about the marriage contract.Dominic wants Lucy willingly not forced.Lucy's parents on the other hand want Lucy married but to find love also and will not force her to marry someone she doesn't love. You have to love Lucy's parents they are both loving and caring parents looking to the welfare of there only child.Lucy's parents was a love match and they want the same for her.Lucy's father is a force to be reckoned with he was a fierce warrior once upon a time and still is making him very protective of his daughter Lucy so not only does Dominic needs to prove he is a worthy husband he needs to convince both of them.

Love the characters of this story.Must admit at times I wanted to strangle Lucy .Her constant pushing Dominic away yet jumping him at every alone opportunity. She got on my nerves a bit.Loved that Jake and Isabel graced the pages of this current tale with there newborn daughter.Dominic and Jake have such a loving bond between brothers. You know that both want the best for each other and would always give there life for one another.

My favorite character was Dominic in this story. Not only was he a fierce warrior who would fight to the death for those he loved and those he was responsible for he was a kind and loving Lord to his people and his brother.Dominic had a lot of responsibility .It weighed him down at times. You felt sorry for him .He had the weight of the world on his shoulders and needed to find a mate strong enough to shared in those daily tasks. You wanted him to find a wife worthy for him as well.He would make a wonderful father and husband .

Lucy has a very strong personality. She speaks her mind and is capable of protecting herself. No simpering miss here. She is a little bit of a warrior herself.I love reading about strong female characters. She is the perfect mate for Dominic and he for her if only she would start trusting her own heart and feelings and stop listening to the tales of others. There relationship was not and easy one.Dominic was a true romantic and did pull out all the stops to win her heart. One of my favorite scenes of the book was of them ice skating Dominic such a romantic sigh...If I didn't love Dominic from the beginning I was definitely head over heels in love with him now .

Danger surrounds this couple.I am rooting for this couple as they truly do belong together but the danger complicates there love.Lucy will prove she does truly love Dominic proving she is the one and only for him alone. Lucy's heroism in this story makes up for me begin annoyed at her at times.Theirs is the kind of love that will stand the test of time.

A page turner from beginning to end and a lovely tale it was.Looking forward to reading more of Samantha's other tales and future releases.

A recommend read to all those who love to read about those Hunky Highlanders like me !

Swoon worthy

With a marriage contract that neither of them know about, and the holidays upon them, Lucy and her family travel to the home of lord Dominic but when trouble brews sending Lucy's parents back to their own home Dominic promises to watch after Lucy, but when sparks fly the two of them realize that they are a good match.

I was a bit irritated by Lucy as she appeared very judgemental as if she was perfect. When she eavesdropped on a conversation and didn’t even stay to listen to the rest of the conversation, I threw my hands up and decided to take a break from the book. It’s a easy read will give it that

Lucy Montgomery at twenty-one is considered an old maid, unworthy of no man. She doesn't believe she's as comely as a fresh faced young woman of say fifteen or sixteen. Lord Dominic is a womanizer, a man ready to tumble with the nearest woman to smile at him. She plans to never wed, no matter how she feels about her family's closest neighbor. He has reivers on his mind, outlaws ripping apart his lands and that of his neighbor, Lucy's father.
Dominic yearns for a wife, but no woman has ever touched his heart. Lucy secretly yearns for the safety of marriage, but is ready to settle for other pursuits, as she believes herself ugly and fat.
Against a backdrop of Scotland in the years after the Black Plague, Samantha Holt spins out a tale of marriages of convenience, love blossoming despite all desires to avoid it, and a couple destined to be together no matter how the odds are stacked against them. The romance of Lucy and Dominic is evident to both immediately, but they look for ways to avoid each other, as Holt teases us along.
The strong plot is even better with the accurate of the dangerous time after millions died a horrible death during the fourteenth century. Many families were affected by this plague, and Holt keeps that in the reader's mind, as a reason the reivers torment landowners, as those landowners struggle to care for not only their immediate families, but also the peasants they're responsible for. This backdrop creates the perfect storm for kindly yet strong natured Lucy to discover the cavalier Dominic she met when he was seventeen and she twelve is a changed man, with a soft heart few ever notice. Even more amazing is how Holt plots Dominic's character – a lord of the manor who not only cares about those he protects, but also this wildcat he finds his heart breaking over the least tear from her eye.
As strong are the background characters, a group of individuals who know their place, but aren't afraid to speak their minds when the situation warrants it. I found it difficult to put this novel down, and I highly recommend Borderland Beauty for any lovers of a great historical romance.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.

We return again to Thornewall where Lord Dominic awaits the holiday season, unaware of the many surprises this year will bring him. His step brother Jake is off living the good life, with Lady Isabel, awaiting the arrival of their first child. Of course, all wonder when the rakish devil himself, Dominic, will capture a bride and not just another conquest to notch upon his bedpost.
Lucy Montgomery is a young woman who would rather die than become a notch on the Lord's notorious conquest post. Her family heads off to spend the holidays at Thornewall, much to her protests.
Having just enjoyed Borderland Bride I came into this with high hopes and I admit, I was not disappointed by the author in the least. The characters remain strong, the story delightfully written and the plot, while not 100% unique, carries itself without needing to drop the reader into boredom. In fact, I will say that there were even some aspects that were more to the unique. In truth, there really is only so many sagas that one can create when attempting to stay true to history. Alas, the genre of historical romance could lose strength on the charts...unless authors like Holt continue to pursue the style.
I will admit that there came a scene within the book that left me teetering on the edge of...yikes, did we just change genre? I guess, that ultimately shows my age. Romance has to evolve and progress, even the historical variety. Let's just stay there would be a steam rating on this book. ** Big Smile **
So, now where do we go? What's next for Samantha Holt? I would love to see more in The Borderland Legacy series, watch the characters age and the saga of the Borderlands progress. Regardless, I will be keeping this author on my radar.

This is a sequel to BORDERLAND BRIDE. Though this would stand on its own, I recommend reading both and in order. This review will have spoilers for the first book.
After arranging the marriage of his older brother, Jake, to Isabel, Dominic embraces the idea of finding his own wife for the sake of his lands and to produce an heir. He plans feasts and activities for the Christmas season. One of the firsts to arrive in Thornewall is the Montgomery family and Dominic finds out there is a marriage contract signed by his parents to have him wed Lucy. Lucy was an ugly duckling. She was hurt by comments made by Dominic when he was a younger man and she knows of his rakish reputation, making it hard for her to trust the charming lord. Dominic is determined to show her that he is not pursuing her for sport. Can he turn her 'nay' to a 'yea?'

After reading Borderland Bride, I knew I wanted to read Dominic's HEA; I knew he deserved one. Feisty Lucy does not make anything easy for him, except for falling in love with her. She is smart, passionate, and beautiful, but she is also shy, a little socially awkward, and nursing the hurts of her past. Dominic's patience and impatience both work on her resistance, breaking her down until they can both be happy. I absolutely loved this story and will continue reading all from Ms. Holt that I can grab up.

I would have to say the author has brought another exceptional well written novel to her readers with The Borderland Legacy. I loved this book and you are able to tell that a lot of effort and passion was brought into both of the novels in the series. You receive a little bit of story about Borderland Bride but not enough to ruin the book in case you have not read it, I do recommend reading both of these novels. In this one you meet one of the brothers Dominic who has been followed by a reputation of being what you consider a ladies man, but never how he truly is except for a good lord of the keep. Also you meet the stubborn (love her character) Lucy that due to a comment made to her by a handsome young man has truly believed herself unable to be loved even though she has grown into her figure by now. Dominic has never had to prove himself worthy to anyone, least of all a women, so this book has definitely gives you a laugh in the way he tries to make her esteem go up and also make her open her eyes and see how he feels. Or is he only doing it for a certain reason? Then you definitely get a twist to this book that normally happens to the women in these sort of novels, but the author weaves it perfectly. LOL this was definitely a great read and the way the author keeps you attached to her books is what makes an amazing author. My recommendation for this book is to go grab your copy and begin to be enchanted trust me you will love it!

I've been anxiously waiting for Lord Dominic to find his true love. We first met him in Borderland Bride which is Jake and Isabel's story. Now his time has come. Dominic is blinded by lust and love when he first meets the Lady Lucy, but she wants nothing to do with this ladies man. She was grievously hurt by his careless words when she was younger and has never forgiven him. When she discovers that they have been secretly betroth, she is determined not to become involved with the Lord of Thornewall even though she is attracted to him. Now the arrogant Lord must pursue this very stubborn Lady. What a chase she leads him! Danger is all around them. The reivers are a deadly menace which threatens the keep and all the land. Will Dominic and Lucy find happiness or will evil doers keep them apart. Samantha Holt writes such a romantic and compelling story that you are captivated. Her characters combine strength with tenderness and caring as they work to find their HEA. I love her writing. You will find this book an enjoyable summer escape that is filled with love and desire and sexy characters.

I love Samantha Holt’s work! Her stories are full of beautiful love stories and wit! I fell in love with Borderland Beauty from the minute I started reading it! I love Lord Dominic in Borderland Bride and was excited to see where his story would lead. Dominic is the handsome and charming ladies man who has quite the reputation. Lady Lucy was such a fun character! She is a very strong, smart and stubborn woman who is not about to be fooled by Dominic’s charming ways. She is not prepared for the sizzle that runs through her veins every time he touches or gets too close to her. Their courtship was very comical and so well written!! I loved the fact that Lucy couldn't keep her eyes or thoughts off of Dominic and she was scolding herself all the time. As always, Samantha keeps her readers glued to the pages of her stories and is able to paint the picture in your mind of her characters, their emotions and their settings. Once you start a book by Samantha, you will not be able to put it down until it is complete! Thank you Samantha for another amazing book! I look forward to more of your work!

Hotness factor: Instant chemistry…

I RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE OF AN HONEST REVIEW
Hear hear! Dominic, the dashing charming lord of Thornewall, is in desperate need of a wife and apparently, he had already been contracted to marry one (is that how you say this?). Lucy Montgomery aka Dominic’s betrothed might be the one woman who seems to be immune to his charms. Or is she?

Dominic and Lucy are simply adorable. Fated to be together, he’s charming but cocky, she’s stubborn and pride, Jane Austen would have been proud. Jake and Izzy are still my favourite couple of the series but Dominic and Luce are really giving them a run for their money. If you read the first book you just have to know how the story unfolds for poor handsome Dominic. My pom-poms are high in the air, like I just don’t care, cheering for this sublime series! PS: is it just me or shouldn't we swap the titles? LOL

Lord Dominic is self assured, handsome, charming, outgoing, and proud. He runs his estate fairly and his people are very loyal to him. He has always had his pick of women, with the reputation to match. He is looking for a wife, a helpmate; only to find out he already has a betrothed.

Lucy is beautiful, spirited, and intelligent and has some baggage from her childhood regarding body image. She had been trained to run an estate, but is prepared to remain a spinster if she cannot find love.

These two characters are enchanting. Watching Dominic having to woo a woman, discover the meaning of love, and have to earn the trust of a woman who he unknowingly hurt years ago was fantastic. Seeing Lucy become more self aware and learn about the power she has within her had me cheering. Their road to a happily ever after had me a bit anxious but in the end made me smile. What does Ms. Holt has in store for us next?

The things we carelessly say when we are young have the potential to leave a lasting impression on the people/person they are said about. This is the biggest obstacle for our hero Lord Dominic. When Lucy was young she was overweight and she over hears a comment Dominic makes about her and from then on Lucy vows to dislike him. Dominic does not remember ever meeting Lucy let alone the comment. Lucy though remembers him and believes all the rumors ever told about him over the years.

One holiday several years later Lord Dominic finds out his mother together with Lucy's mother has arranged for their babes to be married. So he invites her and her family for the holiday festivities at his castle. While he instantly likes Lucy, Dominic is forced to prove he is not the same careless youth nor is he the wastrel the rumors make him out to be. Unfortunately it takes a tragedy in the form of borderland reivers, to open her eyes and see him for the man he truly is.

Borderland Beauty is the second book in the Borderland Legacy series. In this story we follow Dominic and Lucy. Dominic needs a wife and even though he is quite the ladies man he has not been able to find one yet. To his surprise he finds out that a marriage contract to Lucy Montgomery was arranged by his mother and her parents when they were just babes. Lucy has no desire to ever marry and doesn't know about the contract. When she finds out she is angry. She doesn't want to have anything to do with Lord Dominic because of a past unpleasant encounter and he has quite a reputation with the ladies. It was very funny watching the ever confident Dominic being at a loss as what to do to convince Lucy to give him a chance to prove to her that he is not the man she thinks he is. I really liked this story and the characters. Samantha Holt captivates you with her stories and I really like her writing. Definitely going to read more books by this author.

Another grand slam from Samantha Holt!! I was so excited to read Lord Dominic's book. Loved him in Borderland Bride which is Jake and Isabel's story. I truly loved the first book and loved this one even more. Lord Dominic has definitely met his match with Lady Lucy. She is fiery and gives him the chase of his life and definitely gives him a run for his money throughout the who book. She doesn't trust him because of all the gossip she has heard of him being quite the ladies man on top of the fact he really hurt her feelings when they were a bit younger. He, however, is set to prove to her that he is true in his quest to marry her and make her his. I love the whole interaction between these two. I laughed and truly fell in love with these characters. Every single one of them in both books!! Huge 5 AMAZEBALLS stars and then some. Go read these great Historical romances now!!

This was such a great read! It had a touch of love, drama, and action of course!

Lucy ~ She is somewhat withdrawn compared to other young ladies her age in this time. But she is also very self-conscious of her looks because of a remark from years ago! But over the days she spends with Dominic, she grows more aware of herself and more proud of herself!

Dominic ~ He is such an enigma, he's a player for his day and age but also very honorable too. His people mean a lotto him as does family, he proves throughout the book that he will anything to keep both safe from harm. The only person he ends up putting before either is Lucy, he risks his life for her!

Overall this is a great read!

This book was even better! Though they didn't really know each other, the chemistry between them was so great. Dominic made me laugh so hard, in both books really, but he really became my favorite in this book. His attitude and patience when he was with Lucy as well as his men was amazing. Not many men would have his strength and character. The excerpt posted on my blog with my review includes one of my favorite parts in the book. I have heard that there will be more to this story, and I so want to read it! I'd also like to read more of Samantha Holt's work. Enjoy! Check out my blog for the excerpt and more info on this, as well as the previous book. http://www.YouHadMeAtFreeBook.blogspo...
