The thesis of Webster Tarpley’s 911 Synthetic Made in USA has been enthusiastically received with its working model of the 9/11 a rogue network of moles, patsies, and a commando cell in the privatized intelligence services, backed by corrupt political and corporate media elites. Buttressed by historical examples like the Baader-Meinhof Gang and the Gunpowder Plot, this model makes it clear how such a monstrous false-flag or self-terror exploit is possible even under a largely benign government. That paradox is the incredibility gap that has made most Americans reject the evidence about 9/11 as paranoid fantasy. Tarpley brings decades of expertise to the 9/11 issue. Already in 1978 he had exposed the terrorist Red Brigades as patsies of Italy's fascist P2 shadow government, and 9/11 is on the same pattern. The forthright subtitle, Made in USA, is backed up by an analysis of key figures who behave like moles working for the rogue network or parallel government. 9/11 Synthetic Terror highlights the salient points of sheer physical impossibility of the official 9/11 conspiracy theory. It then analyzes the psychological traits which make Anglo-American society gullible to artificial enemy images and unable to grasp the truth of 9/11. Understanding how synthetic terror works, we see the weakness of the muddled "blowback" theories of terrorism and the spurious leads to Pakistan or Saudi Arabia that have marred many critiques of 9/11. Tarpley's model makes it clear that figures like Osama bin Laden are patsies or double agents who were selected for their ethnic coloring as the basis for launching a "Clash of Civilizations," and it is absurd to imagine that such tools of US intelligence agencies could turn around and infiltrate or overwhelm US defenses unaided. 9/11 Synthetic Terror is also firmly grounded in Great Power geopolitics. It shows that the wars on the Islamic world, the Soviet-Afghan, Kosovo and Chechen conflicts, as well as US-UK-NATO synthetic terror incidents like 9/11, Beslan or 3/11 in Madrid, have been contrived to continue the Cold War, in pursuit of the centuries-long campaign for Anglo hegemony over Eurasia and the world. For a principled refutation of the 9/11 propaganda myth in all its parts, Tarpley's work is indispensable.
Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley – one of the most incisive critics of Anglo-American hegemony. As an activist historian he is best known for his book – George Bush: The Unauthorized Biography (1992), a masterpiece of research which is still a must read. He is a 9/11 Truth Scholar and activist; AB Princeton 1966, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa; Fulbright Scholar at University of Turin, Italy; MA in humanities from Skidmore College and a Ph.D in History from the Catholic University of America. He is fluent in Italian, German, French, Latin and Russian.
A decades-long expert on international terrorism, his 1978 study for the Italian parliament “Chi ha ucciso Aldo Moro?” (Who Killed Aldo Moro?) broke open the ownership of the “Red Brigades” by NATO’s clandestine “stay-behind” networks.
I’ve been paying pretty close attention to the inconsistencies of the 911 official version for several years now. Webster Tarpley seems like a very astute guy and I was actually able to hear him speak in DC during the last Anti-War protest that I attended. Although I felt like this book had a lot of good information and facts I think it is also is mixed with a decent amount of opinion and theory. I think the Osama Bin Laden and hijackers patsy theory is one of the best explanations I’ve heard and one thing that always sticks out in my mind is how Giuliani was quoted saying that he wouldn’t allow anyone to take pictures of ground zero because it was a crime scene and then proceeded to ship away all the building rubble to China. When questioned about this he states, it was just such a crazy time and he didn’t think that it was really considered a crime scene. He knew exactly what he was doing and so did a lot of other people in my opinion. There are just too many things, the multiple war games going on that day, the NORAD stand down command, the put options on the airlines involved, the weird cell phone calls that couldn’t have gone though at those altitudes (I test this theory myself every time I fly now and I’ve never been able to get a call to go through once my plane has reached cruising altitude. Guess if you ever hear of a plane going down to cell phone interference you’ll know if was me). It’s so sad that this subject is ignored and that people are ridiculed for even bringing it up for discussion. I just feel like nobody (that wasn’t involved) really knows for sure exactly what happened, but I think it’s pretty safe to say that the official story is officially bullshit.
It is no wonder that Robert Steele - former Marine intelligence officer and CIA spy - called this " strongest of the 770+ books" he's read, almost all non-fiction.
Tarpley's book is essentially an encyclopedia on the topic of 9/11. Tarpley goes in to great detail, spending the first 100 pages examining things like bin Laden, proven government conspiracies of other governments, and the structure of the US intelligence agency with regards to 9/11.
Instead of pointing the finger at Bush, as most do, Tarpley suggests that Bush was a willing stooge who was simply micromanaged by various moles within various sectors of the government.
The great amount of detail that Tarpley goes in to is impressive, and after reading this book, no one can deny that the official story is inaccurate (impossible in some cases, even) and that a truly independent analysis should be done.
Webster Griffin Tarpley's book adds to the literature exposing the fraudulent basis of the so-called "War on Terror," by revealing the official account of 9/11 to be a flimsy tissue of illusions and evasions. For the 49.3% of New York City residents who, according to a Zogby 2004 poll, believe our leaders "knew in advance that attacks were planned on or around September 11, 2001, and that they consciously failed to act," this book will provide proof that their beliefs are closer to the truth than the official fairy tale peddled by the 9/11 Commission and the corporate-controlled media.
Tarpley, an activist and historian, is the author of George Bush: The Unauthorized Biography (1992), and Against Oligarchy, among other books. By "Synthetic Terror," he suggests that the events of 9/11 did not happen in the normal course of events. They were not acts of crazed Arabs who "hate our freedom," nor were they "blowback" from victims of America's criminal foreign policy. A few patsies from oppressed groups may have been used by the intelligence network, because "false flag" operations require patsies to be effective, but they were incapable of pulling off an attack of this sophistication by themselves. Nowhere is that made more clear than in the forensic evidence surrounding the inexplicable collapse of three steel-framed buildings, WTC 1, 2 and 7.
Tarpley devotes a chapter to the controlled-demolition hypothesis, suggesting that the collapse of two steel-framed high-rise buildings from the impact of the planes and subsequent fires was physically impossible. Moreover, he documents not only the many eyewitness reports, from firefighters, reporters, and others on the scene, of numerous secondary explosions in the towers, but squibs - puffs of smoke and debris coming out of the building - well below the place of impact, and other telltale signs of controlled demolition.
In more than a century of the existence of these kinds of high-rise structures, with hundreds of documented fires, sometimes burning for many hours, there had never been a single instance of a building collapsing - until 9/11, when three such buildings collapsed, one of which had had not even been hit by a plane (WTC 7). But, like the many other anomalies on and around that day, we are supposed to accept it on faith, trusting in the good will of our leaders. This is why the credulous response many leftists to 9/11 is so baffling. Many who would never believe Bush or the FBI on matters of far less import were, inexplicably, willing to accept the entire official story this time around.
David Ray Griffin and others have already revealed the logical contradictions among the various versions of the official narrative. While acknowledging the contribution made to 9/11 research by Griffin's The New Pearl Harbor, Tarpley faults the book for "listing as suspects only identifiable institutions, such as the intelligence agencies, the Pentagon, and the White House. It is not the visible, elected government, acting as a totality, that plots terrorism, but a "network or faction of like-minded plotters which cuts across institutions transversally." The footprints of the parallel government can be seen in events like the U-2 crisis, the Bay of Pigs, the JFK assassination, parts of Watergate, Iran-Contra, and the anthrax attacks.
Thus, while for political reasons Bush must be held accountable, for he has undoubtedly led the cover-up of the truth about 9/11, he was certainly not the leader of the plot. This is an important point, because Tarpley believes the modern president is more a figurehead than a chief executive, reduced to ratifying decisions made behind the scenes, either within the federal bureaucracy or the parallel government. While it is politically astute and reasonably accurate to blame Bush for 9/11, it can be misleading if one sees Bush as the originator or director of the 9/11 conspiracy.
For Tarpley, Cheney was probably central to the plot; and Bush's culpability stems from his capitulation to the 9/11 planners in the parallel government, and for leading the cover-up. Tarpley goes to great lengths to establish his case that Bush was out of the loop until the day of September 11 itself, devoting a whole chapter to the alleged threats against the President on September 10th and 11th. However, it is quite possible that these purported "threats" to Bush were part of the theater of the day, designed to exculpate the president in the event the plot went wrong; for example, if one of the planes were recovered, equipped with a Global Hawk remote-guidance system.
Tarpley recounts the CIA's long and illustrious relationship with Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, the group which the CIA created to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan in 1979 and supported throughout the 1990s, indeed, supported right up through July 2001, when a CIA case officer, reportedly met with bin Laden at a hospital in Dubai. The CIA, of course, denied the story, but RFI and Le Figaro have stood by their story.
He quotes Michael Springmann, former head of the US visa bureau in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 1987 to 1989, who told the BBC in 2001 that he was repeatedly ordered by high-level State Department officials to issue visas to applicants who not only were unqualified, but also were known terrorists, recruited by the CIA and Osama bin Laden to come to the U.S. for training in the war in Afghanistan against the then-Soviets.
Tracing the roots of 9/11 to a severe and increasing instability in the global financial system during the 1990s and the threatened end of dollar hegemony, Tarpley summarizes some twenty-one crises and panics since 1987 that had the capacity of causing global financial meltdown. He believes the US oligarchy reached a consensus on the need for terrorism during the 1990s, to maintain its hegemonic system under conditions of growing fiscal and economic disintegration.
"The role of the dollar in the posted price for Gulf crude is the central symbol of the world domination of the dollar. And the dollar is the nerve and fist of US world domination." Because prices for the world's main raw materials, particularly oil, are quoted in US dollars, there is a large global demand for a currency which otherwise might find few buyers, since after three decades of deindustrialization, the US produces little to sell. "This allows the US-UK banking community to skim 5-10% off all world trade by providing import-export financing; this used to be called invisible earnings."
In 2000, Iraq stopped accepting dollars for oil, opting for the euro instead. In September 2002, the government of Iran also suggested it was considering switching over to the euro for crude oil sales. The European Union, Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia have all made similar suggestions in recent years.
"...The arrival of US military forces next door [to Iran] was doubtless designed to dissuade the Iranians from such thoughts." Terrorism would "serve as a well to prevent threatened defections from the dollar zone, and shore up the battered greenback as the world's residual currency." It would also be used to undermine economic nationalist or pro-development regimes in the developing world and to strengthen US-UK control over oil, strategic metals, and other vital raw materials.
US policymakers fear that a stampede of countries will switch over to the euro as the prime currency for purchasing oil and other vital international commodities. If that happens, the net effect will likely diminish the value of the dollar to perhaps a quarter or a third of its current value. It will also cause profound dislocations throughout the global economy.
Another chapter examines whether the alleged hijackers - at least four of whom have turned out to be still alive - were capable of flying airliners into World Trade Center 1, 2 and the Pentagon. We learn from two experienced German pilots, speaking on a September 12 prime time broadcast in Germany, both veterans of many hours flying 757s and 767s, that the skills demonstrated by the supposed 9/11 hijackers could only be acquired from practice flying such an airliner, which none of the alleged hijackers had.
Among the more improbable coincidences of September 11 was the fact that several war games were being conducted that day, including Amalgam Virgo and Vigilant Guardian, which involved hijacked airliners used as weapons, a cruise missile, and other unmanned aerial vehicles. Tarpley speculates that Amalgam Virtue gave the plotters cover while channeling the actual live-fly components of the 9/11 operation through a largely unwitting military bureaucracy. "Under the cover of this confusion, the most palpably subversive actions could be made to appear in the harmless and even beneficial guise of a drill."
This book is a veritable encyclopedia of 9/11, covering matters as diverse as insider trading, anomalous cell phone calls, the anthrax attacks, the anomaly in the official account of what hit the Pentagon, the stolen presidential election of 2004, the unacknowledged ongoing Cold War with Russia, Islamic fundamentalism as a tool of US foreign policy, and much more. Until citizens have the courage to question the inconsistencies and physical impossibilities of the official story of what happened on September 11, 2001, we will never be able to effectively resist the systematic undermining of our constitutional rights, the ongoing consolidation of a totalitarian apparatus of domestic spying, or the disastrous wars that have been and will be based on this monstrous myth. 9/11 Synthetic Terror is essential reading to expose the "Myth of the 21st Century" and reclaim our democracy from the vicious tyrants who have usurped it.
Without doubt, the most comprehensive piece of investigative journalism I have read to date.
The book is now in its fifth edition which is proof of the author`s reluctance to leave events alone... Required reading for anyone who has an open mind or believes that politicians always tell the truth - because they`re politicians!
The best book I've read on 9/11. Tarpley is a thorough researcher and at times the reading becomes very dense. No one can accuse the author of being poorly documented. A brilliant work that brings new questions to light and the call for a new investigation with an exclamation point!
For an easier read, look to Jim Marrs' Terror Conspiracy.
I especially liked how this book laid out the history of state-sponsered terrorism and false flag operations. It paints a picture of the kind of tactics used in 9/11 and how the governmental structure can be compromised and used not just to perform such terrible crimes but to cover them up and set up patsies to take the fall who are fed to the public through mass news media corporations.
Reading the section that gave eyewitness accounts of that terrible morning I was reminded of the eyewitness accounts I had heard and read in books and documentaries regarding the JFK assassination. Accounts that were ignored or dismissed in the official investigation and report.
This book is loaded with quotes from articles and interviews and source notes. Testimony from experts in a variety of areas. It isnt a conspiracy theory book. It is a rational discussion about Synthetic Terror. This edition was published in 2004/2005. Much more information has come out since then supporting a view that the official narrative just doesnt add up.
Will we ever know the whole truth? Probably not. As with other false flag and synthetic terror actions those who are behind it remain in the shadows, operate from obscurity and yet with great influence.
I think it very illuminating the tie in with the dollar, that as the U.S. dollar weakens unrest and violence explodes around the world, especially in nations whose leaders want to switch to the Euro or Yen. It is but another piece to the larger puzzle and bound to happen again as the banks and Wall Street have not stopped their bad practices but only increased the amount of derivatives they have created and trade..a practice that brought banks and even countries to the brink of collapse back in the 1990's. That was very eye-opening. Just how far would these few go to protect their wealth that is tied to the U.S. Dollar?
It may not be comfortable to confront the truth, but one must and realize that most working within the governmental structure were also bowled over and left confused and spinning. They also bought the lies they were fed. How can you not buy a lie when it you are bombarded with it over and over and over and over practically 24/7 for weeks, months. That tragic event of synthetic terror where so many lost their lives is still pulled out and used when someone wants to justify warmongering or restraining Constitutional rights to the populace or increasing military and servailance actions.
Indeed we need to know the truth. To understand how a governmental structure and its agencies can be compromised and prohibited from functioning for the public good, or even global good, and directed according to the agenda of a few who are outside of the governmental structure, whose plans are long term, who operate not just in teh U.S. but have tendrils all over the world. That sounds like a huge conspiracy doesnt it? Yet how could these things take place unless a few very clever, patient people were able to direct it, direct all the players needed for an act of synthetic terror to take place and direct the coverups with each small player not really understanding the greater picture, only their small role. That indeed is the scariest thing.
Yet a populace that stands together instead of driven apart into fighting factions based on tiny superficial differences has the power to stop these few, which is why differences are being exaggerated and groups are being pushed to view one another as enemies. it is why lies and diversions flood major news medias, because though the truth moves slow it has more power then lies do. The global populace armed with truth is indeed a very powerful force that can bring big changes, changes that are needed for the very survival of our planet and ourselves as a species.
"Since September 11, 2001, no part of the United States Government has offered a convincing, coherent, complete explanation of the events of that day, and of other events related to them. Indeed, no US government agency has ever so much as proposed to prove the truth of the official account [...]"

A thorough and convincing theory as to what actually happened on 9/11. Tarpley is an experience researcher with a background in terrorist plots & their links to government sponsorship going back to the Red Brigade activities of the 60s and 70s. He amasses a vast amount of important and, frankly, dizzyingly scary information on the extraordinary activities of the intelligence services of the US and UK; gathers a colourful cast of characters (if nothing else, this is all good material for a novel!) and builds a convincing argument as to who had the wherewithal and the motive for causing the 9/11 attacks. To those who would scream "conspiracy theory", Tarpley points out that the official version of 9/11 is a conspiracy theory, one with huge holes in logic and likelihood; that conspiracies do happen and can be historically proved to have happened (the US Declaration of Independence is grounded in a conspiracy theory); and, most entertainingly, turns the tables and suggest that belief in the official version of 9/11 is tantamount to a form of autistic schizophrenia!
Tarpley builds his argument with reference to neocon personnel and policy, their grounding in the dire philosophical mania of Leo Strauss, and interestingly uses Machiavelli to remind us that the type of conspiracy he is positing is the very thing which the great Italian thinker of the unthinkable suggested unscrupulous politicians do in order to maintain their power. Tarpley also makes valuable use of Plato's parable of the cave in order that we understand our position in the post-9/11 world.
The book is a strong warning against fascism, secret government, government agencies out of control, a coming Third World War with attendant nuclear devastation. He clearly warns that the US/UK elites are angling for war not merely with the countries of the Middle East but with Russia too.
Definitely a worthwhile read, despite being in need of some stronger editing and proof reading at times; and the tendency of the author to not quite structure his material as clearly into evidence and theorising as might be.
I have only "Cherry Picked" this book as oppossed to cover to cover reading.
I bought this book for the purpose of "Researching" facts and corroberating details and events gleened from other sources.
After gaining subject matter relevant to 911 from 100's of Non-US Media sources, I decided to utilize or maybe...CONFIRM details with those of Webster Tarpley. Have heard him speak numerous times. He is an extremely fast witted, detail oriented orator who is all about the Facts.
Websters style is not for the timid, but I believe that he and his ilk are required in Americas Place in past and current history.
"Liked it"??? No not really, but was perversely drawn to it...Still don't know what flew into the Pentagon. Still don't know the real story. Still frustrated about the lack of a REAL exploration of what actually happened that day...and sure this guy is scoffed at, but I really wish we KNEW the truth - or is it too scary to contemplate? When I was younger I was all hung up on not knowing what really happened to JFK, and now thinking we were so duped and we just ate it up, as long as our creature comforts were not interrupted...
The book started out quite well. I loved the Bush bashing. The story line disappeared when he went off on a dialog of what an ideal president would do after the 9/11 false flag attack. The book should have ended right before that dialog instead it goes on and on and on nice title but I would not recommend this book.
While Webster Tarpley the man may be well intentioned and well spoken, I'm saddened to say I had to put this book down after a long and laborious examination of his mostly conjecture-filled conclusions.
Goood book on the subject, maybe a little out of date, but it offers a lot of history into what Tarpley calles Syntetic Terror, or state sponsored/created terrorist events. Beside 9/11 we get to know a lot about the Gladio operations and the worcking of secret services.
It reads tediously to start but ends very well with some frightening information and on the spot predictions about our current financial crisis that has hit this September 2008.
Lots of useful and suppressed information, however the book is a disorganized mess, and about 70% of it does not deal with 9/11 but with a multitude or many govt conspiracy theories around the world.
The book is often repetitive, and bounces all over the place even within a paragraph fro topic to topic and timeframe to timeframe.
The author is incredibly disorganized, random thinking and chaotic which will frustrate even the most determined readers. It's too bad because there are gems of knowledge and insight throughout the book.
obviously the 9/11 myth is bullshit, i think tarpley does the best job ive seen to construct an actual hypothesis rather than just accumulating bits of evidence against the official story. best chapter is easily angel is next where he dives into the secret government. couldnt give it five stars due to the bizarre schizophrenic and autistic chapter and also his support of a two state solution wrt palestine. still would recommend to anyone interested in 9/11 who’s already familiar with the basic reasons for denying the official story
If you haven't given any serious, critical thought to the official version of what happened on September 11th 2001, this is the book to go to. The facts, just the facts.
I like conspiracy but this was not well written at all. Gave 2 stats because the book lays out some interesting evidence, but the writing made it hard to get through
