Do you long for revival on your college or university campus? Is your heart burdened for the students you interact with each day? Here are some accounts of revivals in the past two centuries that will whet your appetite for the transforming work of God's Spirit on your campus today. From the academic halls of America - Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, Brown, Middlebury, Union, Bethel, Wheaton, Williams, Trinity, Ashland, and many others - comes the stirring stories of awakening and revival. On both secular and Christian Campuses, the moving of God is evident as men and women were converted and stirred to ministry and foreign service. Out of these pockets of awakening came the formation or strengthening of student and campus fellowships such as InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Youth for Christ, Campus Crusade for Christ, Navigators, and the YMCA.
Two centuries of revival history and lessons on American campuses. Feels like the Lord is granting us some similar favor these days. Help us see it Lord!
A very brief survey of awakenings on college campuses throughout the past 200 years. Gleason is out to identify the characteristics that accompany genuine revival, and he makes his theological commit events clear (if not explicit). I haven't read Jonathan Edwards's "Religious Affections," but Gleason seems to be of a similar mind, trying to navigate between the awakenings wrought by the Spirit of God and mere swells of emotion that create no lasting change. The tone is at turns analytical and devotional, which was certainly his aim in including the sermons at the end of each period survey.
This book challenged me when it comes to the desires of my heart. Revival on our campuses, in our cities, a d throughout the world ought to be the earnest desire of all God's children. This book got me praying for the Lord to change my heart so that i would yearn more for the hollowing if His name.
"Lord, we are few, but Thou art near; Nor short Thine arm, nor deaf Thine ear; O rend the heavens, come quickly down, And make a thousand hearts Thine own!" -William Cowper
A book telling the chronology of campus revivals. Contrasts God-centered vs. Event-centered revivals. Good book and challenging. Pursue Christ not revival
