Of course poetry never translates, but this is pretty decent prison lit.
Gonna read more Bo Yang.
An unexpected bonus: the stories in the footnotes from Chinese history are ridiculous. Lots of Fletcher Hanks-style punishments for absurd crimes.

Heart-breaking, a pain that is both intensified and dulled by its repetition. What can you do? He was there for some 10 years.
