This is the first Bible commentary that I’ve read in its entirety, and it was very helpful to read as I studied the gospel of John. Although I’m reading the Bible in ESV, NIV is the version that I grew up on. Of the sets of commentaries that my dad owns, the Holman commentaries are the easiest ones for me to read. Everything is well-organized and includes applications and deeper dives on specific topics. I can also tell that this commentary is definitely Calvinist. - The term “spiritual appropriation” was also used a bunch of times (Chapter 6 and other places). This was not a term I was familiar with, so I thought this term would have a negative connotation like “cultural appropriation” does. But apparently it is the concept of receiving what belongs to us in Christ.
