An introduction to the purely international language, Esperanto, a fully expressive language which can be learned in a fraction of the time it takes to learn other languages because of its regularity–learn a rule, use the rule, no exceptions! Many stories of how easily the language is learned and how it has been used for a century to communicate across linguistic barriers.
This is a very personal book. Although the language sometimes feels a bit stilted, it argues for - and explains - the intricacies of Esperanto. I feel very motivated to learn this interesting and creative language.
A good introduction about Esperanto, with examples from the language. Certain points offer pros and cons of the language which sounded balanced. A lot of comparison between Esperanto & other major languages as English & French, which seemed to be a repetitive theme with different variations around the irregularities in major languages.
I'm an Esperantist, so I confess to a positive bias before I even began this book. However, Zaft has written a friendly, approachable introduction to the international language that doesn't get hung up too heavily on linguistic theory. Instead, it's a positive affirmation of the goals Dr. Zamenhof was striving for when he created Esperanto so many years ago.
