Jack Williams Hayford (born June 25, 1934) is an American author, Pentecostal minister, and Chancellor Emeritus of The King's University (formerly The King's College and Seminary). He is a former senior pastor of The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California and was the fourth President of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. He is widely known for his past involvement in the Promise Keepers movement and for being a prolific author and songwriter, with over 600 hymns and choruses in his catalog. He is the author of the popular 1978 hymn "Majesty", which is rated as one of the top 100 contemporary hymns and performed and sung in churches worldwide.

Anyway, I found that although I knew most of what he was talking about (it was written back in 70's), I still had some things to learn.

I recommend this highly as a great refresher on the power of prayer.

If your prayer life seems a bit stale, pick up the book and be refreshed.

Just finished my third time reading this book. A work of scholarship and in-depth understanding of the word of God, it is not for the casual reader. If you truly want to understand the supernatural mechanisms of prayer, this is a must read to be studied and absorbed. An outstanding effort by a true theologian.

Read agin in 2024 - 4th time.

This is a wonderful explanation of the definition of prayer, the reasonable expectation of the praying and what God desires from those who pray! Every Christian should avail themselves of Brother Hayford's imparted wisdom.

Very good: insightful, encouraging. It's definitely a worthwhile read. I recommend reading the last chapter first, then read the book through and finish with the last chapter again (chapters are only five or six pages long). Chapters 16 through 18 I had to read twice, probably because I was distracted by other things going on in the room; but worth the second look.

I guess it will depend on where you are on the walk with God, but I found the book just got better as it went along. From ch.12 and all of Part 3. are worth however much you spend to get it.
There is a great handling of the 'glossolalia' gift. Jack calls it 'spiritual language'.

While I've heard great things about this book and the author, his ability to write has me cringing. His grammar and structure were so terrible that I felt like I was forcing myself to read it, and that isn't a promising beginning to any book. This book is apparently on its 4th revision, but I don't believe it's ever been shown to a professional editor. I made it to the second chapter and finally threw it (and I don't throw books unless they're truly bad). This book needs to be edited before I'll pick it up again! :(
