As I'm currently rewatching a childhood favorite of mine (Disney's Gargoyles), I just had to see what gargoyle romances are out there.

description

Sadly this one did not live up to my expectations.
Art dealer Justin is buying a Gothic church to open an art gallery - a dream he's been harboring for years.
Unfortunately he's being followed by an insane stalker who is out to kill him for his unrequited love.

Thank God the hot and hunky gargoyle statue sitting on a perch on the outer wall of the church comes alive, falls in love with Justin (plus lots of raunchy sex) and swears to protect him from the evil stalker.

At least at night, when the gargoyle isn't... well... turning to stone.

During the day Justin wants to be on the safe side and hires a security firm (which I found to be a slap in the face of our poor gargoyle, but okay).

Anyway, no big surprises in this story, if you don't count the Star Wars reference ("I am your father") that seems to have popped up in the middle of writing this book.

Yeah.

2.5 stars!

Title: Stone Heart

Sui Lynn has written an m/m fantasy fantasy/paranormal novel, Sui writing is good and the story kept me interested as I really wanted to see what was going to happen at the end. It is well written, the characters are great, and I was only a bit disappointed in the story line as I wanted more in the ending. The sex scenes were fantastic and would rate it 4 hearts.

Justin, who is running away from his past and a crazed stalker, finds solace in renovating an old gothic church that is to become his new gallery. The church itself is fantastic and has stone gargoyles which during the renovation Justin find peace while talking to the stone creatures.

Cullen who is one of the stone gargoyles, and has been asleep for thousands of years and somehow they are awaken by Justin. Listening to Justin talk about his life and what is going on in the world leads Cullen and the other gargoyles feel the need to protect him. Cullen of course feels more than that. Only the Gargoyles cannot protect Justin during the day as they always revert back to stone. Will Cullen be able to protect Justin now that the stalker has found him? How can Justin and Cullen build on this relationship knowing Cullen will be stone during the day hours? You must go read to find out.

This is great paranormal romance novel and I cannot wait to see what will happen next with all the other gargoyles. Sui Lynn is a fantastic author, even though I wanted more from the ending doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great romance novel. I have rated it a four hearts. I would recommend this story to anyone who loves to read m/m fantasy/paranormal stories. Did I mention the sex scenes we great. Fantastic writing!

I really liked this story about Justin, a guy who is on the run from a delusional stalker, and starts a gallery in and old church. When he finds out that the gargoyles there actually come alive after sunset, he is very happy. One in particular turns out to be a good friend, and in a classical tale about good guys versus bad, the adventure takes off at a run.

Justin is an artist, and one who is open to the mystical around him. He is particularly drawn to the gargoyles on the old church, going so far as to name them. But his past (and the man who thinks he owns Justin) catches up with him and even though he stands up to the evil guy, he is physically not strong enough.

Cullen, asleep for centuries, is awakened by Justin and, sensing there is more between them than just friendship, takes over as a self-appointed bodyguard. He has lots to learn about the modern world he has awoken in, but he knows about love and loyalty. Nothing will stop him from protecting Justin, and I loved Cullen’s determination to do the right thing.

If you’re looking for something paranormal that is slightly off the beaten path, if you believe that love and loyalty can move mountains or, in this case, bring stone to life, and if you like reading stories about men who stand up for themselves as much as they defend others, you will probably like this book.

I’ve read several books by Ms. Lynn and I’ve enjoyed them all. She has a very creative mind and her heroes are always likeable men.

I haven’t read many books that feature a gargoyle as a main hero, so I was definitely interested in seeing how this book would pan out. I ended up really liking the imaginative spin Ms. Lynn gave these creatures and I found myself really interested in them and wondered how a human and a gargoyle would share a life together.

The minute that Justin saw the old church he knew he had to own it. Justin has wanted to have his own art gallery for some time, so he knows with a little imagination and elbow grease, the old church will be a perfect location for both his home and his business. When Justin notices the handsome gargoyle perched outside of what will be his bedroom window, he’s immediately enchanted with him. Soon, he finds himself talking to the stone statue. He shares his secrets and opens his heart with the gargoyle who has somehow become very important to him.

Cullen has been sleeping for years. But lately, he’s been awakened to a melodic voice of a human that talks to him as if he’s a personal friend or more. When Cullen awakens he can only roam at night and as soon as he realizes who the human is that has awakened him, he knows this man, Justin, is his mate. Although, Cullen wants to reveal himself to Justin, he is a little afraid of how his human will respond to him. But when Justin’s life becomes in danger, Cullen vows to keep Justin safe…no matter what the price. Will he be able to protect Justin? How will a gargoyle and a human life together?

I really enjoyed this book. I liked both Justin and Cullen. Both are interesting characters and Justin in particular has a big heart and is just an all-around nice guy. Cullen was a bit more of a mystery to me. Although we do learn about him, it would have been nice to really know more about his life before Justin and how they plan on coping being separated during the daytime. All in all I really liked this book and would recommend it to those who love a good paranormal romance.

Stone Heart is a sexy, fast-paced book that will satisfy fans of paranormal romance. I’m looking forward to reading more from Ms. Lynn and hope she’ll continue writing more about gargoyles and these characters in the future. Recommended!

Justin has settled into the city where he hopes his stalker won’t find him. As he works on the old church, that he will call home, he talks to the gargoyles that guard his sanctuary. When he is attacked, he dreams that his favorite gargoyle comes to him to offer comfort and support. Cullen has spent much time listening to the human talk to him, now he finds that his human needs protection and he and his fellow gargoyles will ensure his protection.

Justin is an artist who is opening his own gallery. As he works on the old church, he awakens the gargoyles and they will protect him from those who would do harm. But, the gargoyles are helpless during the day, so Justin calls in an old friend. This is an interesting gargoyle story that I found wonderful for the simple fact that although they came alive at night they still turned to stone during the day and not even Justin’s love changes that, it really was refreshing.

Justin might have thought that he had fled his stalker, but the man just won’t give up. Cullen is really sweet in his need to protect Justin, but even he knows that he has limitations. Now, even though this story is focused on Justin and Cullen there are other things that are going on in the background that are just as interesting that involve Justin’s sister, her son and her high school sweetheart, you also have the other gargoyles Bob, Draco and Snout who make for interesting reading.

I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to Sui Lynn’s future gargoyle stories. With this one, I will recommend it to those who love gargoyles, hot sex, an interesting story, a slightly more realistic gargoyle story (do not go there, I know it isn’t real so *raspberry*) and a happy ending for everyone involved. (Except Bob because his angel really is just stone.)

I was reading this when the author was originally publishing it chapter by chapter at another site. I'm glad I finally got to read the rest of the story and know more about Cullen and Justin! However, I felt that the writing was a bit elementary in style and the characters fell a bit flat. I really liked the set up to it all, but never got a feel for Justin and Cullen's relationship. Enjoyable, but not quite what I was hoping for. still, I enjoy this author and will keep looking forward to what she comes out with next.

The story was a bit bland and unreal. I like Gargoyle stories, but in this one, they were to undeveloped. And the fact that Cullen and Justin only saw each other true the night and only to have sex. Simple said, this storyline was to easy. The emotions were not felt or to abrupt and I couldn't connect with Cullen and Justin.

Once upon a time on a beautiful old church...

there lived four gargoyles and their names were Draco, Snout, Cullen and Bob (stop laughing I didn't name the poor thing. Justin did). Now potentially Bob had some self esteem issues, ok I'm guessing here, but, really if you're a gargoyle named Bob is this a big stretch? I'm thinking not.

All right that's enough about Bob. Stone Heart was a fun read, it was definitely different and it had a lot going on as well as our gargoyles, we have Justin who is the owner of the church and his sister Tracy, her son Alex, her husband Tom, I think that was his name. Oh who cares he was an adulterous dirtbag and didn't stay around past the first couple of chapters anyways. Then there's David, yeah that's right every story needs a crazy, psycho stalker dude, oops I almost forgot Lucas, he's a security expert and Justin's best friend who lost touch with him when he enlisted and may be relevant to the whole Tracy/Alex/Tom issue. But you have to read the book if you want to know more about that.

Stone Heart was not a story that you read looking for any amount of reality, I mean really live gargoyles? Come on if that resembles reality then...man you need to lay off the meds. But it was fun and it had some sweet moments. My biggest gripe was it was too short and I try really hard not to use this complaint because I honestly feel that for the most part if it's a really good story that the reader enjoys...well, aren't they all too short? But I do think this story had enough going on that it would have actually benefited from a little more detail instead of the time jumps that it took of a month or two here and there. Still over all at the end of the book I was left smiling and wondering if maybe we should all start talking to the gargoyles...who knows what could happen?

Oopsie, I forgot to mention if anyone sees a dragon wondering around could you send him home. Seems he snuck down off of his parapet when I wasn't looking.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm saying this but... I thought this story was too long. Usually, I complain that a story is too short to really place a real plot but I have no such feelings about this book. I felt it dragged, as if the plot was being stretched out to the point of being painful. I ended up skimming a lot of this book in places. Which just makes me so sad! I LOVED Justin and Cullen. I love the idea and the settings of this book. A big part for me is I love stories about gargoyles. Why, oh why, was this book so hard for me to read!? I just don't get it. All the potential was there but I just... sigh. I never felt so disappointed. And the crazy thing is I felt disappointed in myself and not in this book. Maybe I will try to read this again in the future.

It isn't often that I don't finish a book, in fact I always very much finish a book, but I just couldn't with this one. I stopped reading about 20percent in because I just couldn't read any more.

The premise of the book was really interesting, with gargoyles coming to life at night and watching over there domain/the people that are in that place at the time. But am sorry, it didn't to me (this is just my opinion, other people might love this book) come across very well.

It was not to my taste, the writing style. I wish the author the very best in the future, and I will look at the other work they've done, but sadly I couldn't finish this book.

I was torn between giving this 2 or 3 stars. It is reaaaaallly fluffy and light despite dealing with some real issues. In the end I gave 3 because she does right a rather enjoyable story and I now know what to do if I get a stalker : )

Scarce background for the characters and not enough world-building, perhaps even a little too simple considering some serious aspects of the novel but easy to enjoy. Very light. Romantic and sweet. Completely unrealistic but fun. HEA.
