This book was informative as is all step 4 reading novels.

There are five chapters in this book, while I found some of the facts fun and interesting. The book jumps from one area to another in every chapter. Chapter 3 was about these two archaeologists who fought over dinosaur bones, but chapter 4 was about preserving bones with no leeway into the topics. The last chapter was about tall dinosaurs and who found them.

The book was still a good read for anyone who wants to expand their reader's language or try out a fluency test. The dinosaur names will have their tongues twisting, but I do admit at times the book just gets tiring and I just wanted it to end but my student enjoyed it.

On the front cover, I wrote my name and that I read this 2-11-1998.

Quickly reread this just now, as i'm cataloging the box of childhood books I retrieved from my parents' house. I'm glad this includes Mary Ann Mantell finding the Iguanadon tooth! Just one of many signs I never outgrew my dinosaur phase. Generally, a good book (describes the phases of how you find dinosaur bones and the team you need, the *ahem* arms race to find taller sauropods, etc.)

Very factual. It discusses how fossils are formed. Early ideas of what fossils might be including a giant snake and dragons. Early individuals who began to understand that fossils were actually extinct creatures including Bernard Palissy, Gideon Mantell and his wife Mary Ann. It describes the dinosaur wars between Dr. Edward Cope and Dr. Othniel Marsh and in this modern era how dinosaurs are moved to museums.

Although this is an introduction to chapter books leveled book (level 5), I could see a preschool teacher using this book during storytime and reading one page spread or one chapter per day. The book is non-fiction and informs readers of important paleontologists and the discoveries they made.

I'm holding off on adding this to my first grade library, but it's perfect for more proficient readers. I'd recommend it to teachers/parents in grades 2-5.

This was very cool. I've been bringing it to homework room, and the boys really like to read it.
