Andy Stanton lives in North London. He studied English at Oxford but they kicked him out. He has been a film script reader, a cartoonist, an NHS lackey and lots of other things. He has many interests, but best of all he likes cartoons, books and music (even jazz).

One day he’d like to live in New York or Berlin or one of those places because he’s got fantasies of bohemia. His favourite expression is ‘Good evening’ and his favourite word is ‘captain’. Andy has now written more than one book, but less than twenty.

یک جلد عالی دیگر از مجموعه کتاب های موردعلاقه ی من،آقای گام.
استنتون - و قاعدتا مترجم کتاب رضی هیرمندی-خوب می داند کجا تکرار یک جمله یا مولفه کتاب را به ابتذال می کشاند و کجا مایه ی تفریح خواننده می شود.از این جهت بین نویسنده هایی که من می شناسم واقعا تک است.
خیلی خوشحالم که این مجموعه ی فاخر و دوست داشتنی طنز کودک وجود دارد.واقعا یک سروگردن از همه کتابهای کودکی که چه در خردسالی و چه بزرگسالی خواندم بالاتر است.
جدای از احساسات غلیظ من درباره ی این مجموعه،داستان هم خیلی قوی بود.با گره افکنی به جا و نقشه ی داستانی صحیح.شخصیت پردازی هم که جای حرف ندارد دیگر،واقعا از این بهتر نمی شد.و البته به علاوه ی دیالوگ های به جا و بسیارخنده داری که بینشان رد و بدل می شد.

I did enjoy reading this book and revisiting the bonkers town of Lamonic Bibber with its equally weird and funny characters. I would say it’s not as good or humours as the first (only other one I’ve read) but still a fun quick read. In this story, the town is being wrecked every night when a fog comes and there are sightings of ‘The Hound’. As the only ‘possible’ perpetrator, Jake the dog is blamed and the residents pursue a hate campaign to remove him. Knowing his innocence, Polly and Friday do some investigating to get to the truth. Who’s really behind it? Jake? A visitor? What about the usual villain Mr Gum and Billy the butcher? Wait and see

Overall an enjoyable read, easy to get through with a bonkers fun cast of characters and plot - would recommend.

The Mr Gum books, for those of you who have been visiting Mars, follow the adventures of Mr Gum, a vile villain, who lives in the slightly picturesque, and very bonkers town of Lamonic Bibber. In Mr Gum in 'The Hound of Lamonic Bibber', a ferocious hound is terrorising the good folk of Lamonic Bibber, and it's up to Polly, the heroine, and the only sane voice in the whole book, to find out the truth about the mysterious hound.


Mad Scientist: 5 stars! There was a real plot in this book, with a real mystery, and real clues. What I particularly liked was that the ridiculously funny jokes served as camouflage for the clues. Clever! Like me!

Party Rocker: Also 5 stars! What I particularly liked was the extra story about how Mr Gum and Billy William the third became friends, and the very best bit was when they were talking to Ned Needles, the travelling pillow salesman, and his horse, Handsome, and Billy William 'was pulling Handsome's tail to see if it would make him lay an egg or do a fart or something'. Rude! Like me!

Mad Scientist: 5x5 stars! If there was a Olympic medal for funniness, Andy Stanton would win it. He's hilarious. Mr Gum in 'The Hound of Lamonic Bibber' is hilarious. All the Mr Gum books are hilarious. I should know. I've read them all, reread them all, reviewed them all, and rewired them too. Clever, eh? Bet you didn't even know it was possible to rewire a book. Hey! (jumping round to face Party Rocker) What are you doing?


Party Rocker: (pulling Mad Scientists trousers down) Trying to see if I can make you lay an egg or do a fart or something.


Mad Scientist: (chasing after Party Rocker) Why you little borkler...

Party Rocker: (running away) Did you know you look like a lemon meringue?

Striker: I liked it too. But I'm only going to give it 4 stars because I was a bit worried the hound was going to eat Polly, or Friday, or me. Hey! (jumping round to face Party Rocker) What are you doing?

Party Rocker: (pulling striker's trousers down) Trying to see if I can make you look very silly.


Striker: (chasing after Party Rocker and brandishing his fists) Now I'm going to have to hit you.


Flower Power: Why doesn't anyone ever ask me what I think?

Mad Scientist: Alright then, we will. What did you think of 'The Hound of Lamonic Bibber?

Flower Power: I loved it. 5 stars.

Mad Scientist: Did you actually read it?

Flower Power: No.

Another hilarious book

So, I'll start off saying this series is the silliest series there is. Join Friday O Leary as he tells you a detective story as Polly & Alan Taylor listen and a rare talking flower says Friday is an idiot. Yup, those flowers are hard to please. And get bonus stuff, more bonus stuff, yup you guessed it more bonus stuff, and A BIT MORE! Will you be a detective and crack the case before Polly & Friday did?
