IDW's one-shots focusing on the most celebrated Transformers characters continue in this second collection of Spotlights. This time around, see how and why Soundwave, KUP, Galvatron, Optimus Prime, and Ramjet fit into the Transformers ever-expanding IDW-verse.
Simon Christopher Francis Furman is a British comic book writer who is best known for his work on Hasbro/Tomy's Transformers franchise, starting with writing Marvel's initial comic book to promote the toyline worldwide, as well as foundations for both Dreamwave Production's and IDW Publishing's takes on the Generation 1 minifranchise.
A little weaker than the first volume, but a better mix of standalone stories and stories tied into the general IDW Transformers metaplot. Soundwave is OK (I'm more a fan of the G1 cartoon Soundwave than the Marvel Comics Soundwave). The Kup story is interesting but a downer. Galvatron is very different from previous takes. Optimus Prime has some interesting backstory but is otherwise just OK. The Ramjet story is the standout of the bunch, not sure it's actually good, and a strange way to interpret the character, but kinda fun anyway. (B+)
more Transformers IDW goodness! Artwork for the issues on Galvatron and Ramjet were the highlight of this volume. Great complimentary stories to the main IDW continuity.
I'm liking these IDW Transformers comics so much! Top-notch artwork and storytelling. This collection of one-shots is no different. It's well worth a read.
