This book is directed more to the urban resident who is seeking to add more nature and birds to their residence. As someone who lives in a large wooded area, most of what is discussed in this book is already in place around my home and farming community. However, I did find the list of birds and their food preferences a good resource, as well as, the types of feeds different birds prefer. I would like to see the author address the issue of bears and birdfeeders, and how cats and birds can live peacefully together with a little planning, (the author often points out the problem of feral or domestic cats, but doesn't acknowledge that there are benefits for feral and domestic cats too), and how to discourage snakes from eating birds, (which is more of a problem for me than cats). There should also be advice on how to have bird baths that discourge mosquito infestations. So, this is a good urban beginners book, but could be more rounded to include a natural balance for birds and other animals no matter where you live.
Backyard Bird Guide: Attracting Wild Birds to Your Yard Don't want to really attract them as they already live nearby. We start hearing them about 5am if not sooner. Explains what backyard birding is all about. Few colorful pictures. Tells you what you will need for which type of bird you want to attract and why it'd be good for your yard and surroundings. Lots of information about a journal, keep birds happy with clean area, water and food. How to choose a good birdbath, feeder and birdhouse. Charts and resources are also listed.

I learned about many valuable resources to help create my city garden into a bird sanctuary. I am looking forward to seeing more sweet birds and helping them survive.
I chose this book because I recently moved and wasn't familiar with the wild birds in my backyard. Although the book is only about 80 pages, I took over a month to read.
I found the information in this book extremely helpful. It was thorough and offered insight into birds, their habitats, their migration, if any, feeding habits, types of homes, how to log your experiences and so much more.
I am better aware of the birds in my backyard and know what are the better feeders for my type of birds.
I highly recommend for beginners and those more advanced in bird knowledge.
I've been bird watching for several years but I have never taken the time to learn about my hobby. This book helped me take the next step into amateur birding in my own backyard.
