This was one of the books my mom got me for my birthday. When I opened it I thought, "huh." It must have shown on my face as mom replied "It was on your Amazon list." Ah. Yes! It was! I heard about it on a podcast, "Abiding Together," where three Catholic women talk about living their faith. One of them is a nun, Sister Miriam James (who goes by "onegroovynun" on Twitter. I mean come on, that's cool) who played college volleyball. She mentioned she was reading this book and I was intrigued so I put it on my wish list.
It was a pretty darn good read! I've read a lot in the mental aspect of athletics genre and there wasn't a ton of "new material" here but it was presented in a new way and the more ways I can hear about staying in the present, staying in the moment, focusing on the details I can control, the more it sinks in and helps me learn it.
This has a definite religious twist and it gets heavier later in the book. He writes from a Catholic point of view, which might turn off some readers. But one of the things I took away is something I heard on the running podcast I listen to (How Was Your Run Today): To be a better runner, be a better person.
