Devil's Deep #3

The Devil's Cauldron

Rate this book
Seven years after a horrific caving accident left her paralyzed and unable to communicate with the outside world, Meggie Kerr's nightmare is about to end. A team of medical investigators specializing in locked-in syndrome has tracked her to a care center in the mountains of Costa Rica with promises to break her mind free using the latest brain treatments.

But a jealous rival and a treacherous ex-boyfriend can't let that happen. Not if there's any possibility Meggie will be able to finger them as the ones behind her "accident."

Meggie's only chance lies with a mentally challenged young man who knows her secret and has the means to help. But first he has to hold the details in his head long enough to pull it off before it's too late.

The third book of the Devil's Deep suspense series by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michael Wallace, The Devil's Cauldron plumbs new depths of psychological terror as it travels from the cloud forest of Costa Rica to the secrets hidden at the bottom of a cave in the Nevada desert.

Michael Wallace has done it again. This is the third book in the Devil's series, each of them I enjoyed better than the last.

You'll get involved with the characters immediately through his brilliant storytelling and his wonderful ability to hold the reader on the edge of their seat.

A great thriller involving characters no other writer has the courage to write about.

Go on, give it a go, you won't be disappointed, I can assure you.

The third book in this series and I must say it was another good read. My only complaint, and it may be because I've read all three books back-to-back, is that I kind of feel like I've read the same story three times. Don't get me wrong-I like the main characters and the story line of each book was well written with wonderful descriptions. I certainly wouldn't want to suffer LIS or wish it on my worst enemy. I think the author has created some of the best bad guys/gals ever. Perhaps the real problem I have is with the victims. I had a hard time liking any of them before they became victims of LIS and the people who enjoy torturing them. That sounds really awful but I want a victim I'm invested in and want to fight for, not rich and smug or whiny and spineless. Having said that, my favorite character so far has been Eric. Love that guy!

I have enjoyed all the books in this series. This series had me looking/reading information on Locked In Syndrom. I had never heard of L.I.S. before, kudos to Mr. Wallace for bringing to light a condition that needs to be known. The books are all great reads.

I loved it. I'm not sure if he has anything to add to their story, but if he writes it, I'll read it. I'd definitely recommend it.

I absolutely love this series, and I certainly enjoy Michael Wallace's style. I did enjoy this book very much, but I can't bring myself to rate it five stars. Personally, I think it was too short. I read this book in about forty-eight hours (this is partially because I can't seem to ever put down a Michael Wallace book). There was no lack of substance, because honestly there was a lot of action, background information, and all the good stuff. But the last third of the book felt a tad bit rushed. In addition, and this is perhaps because I've read every book in this series one after another, this book felt a bit predictable. There were certain points in the story where I was sitting there saying "I called that!", which isn't something I like in a book.
On the whole, though, definitely a GREAT read. One thing Wallace always does excellently is create villains. The villains in the books in this series always make my blood boil, and to me that means the author has done a great job with characters. I also especially LOVE that Eric was featured so much in this book. I love Wes and Becca, but I just have a soft spot for Eric, so seeing his character develop throughout the second half of this book was great. Overall, another job well done for Michael Wallace.
* I recommend every book in this series to anyone who likes unique, fast-paced, well-written mysteries/thrillers!!

This is the first Michael Wallace book i've read, a great mystery with twist and turns.
not to many characters that you end up getting confused who is who, it was a great story but very easy to follow.
Wes and Becca are the kind of characters that you want on your side, if they are out to help you i guess you'd know your going to be fine.
Kaitlyn is the main the villain in the book, and if i could have got my hands on her (Bi**h),.......grrrr i hated her, But i always think if there is one character you fall for or hate in a book then the author has done good, he's written it just right, that you do get involved..
i loved Meggie and Eric.. think another book with these two in would be great, to see how things go between them.
A great easy read with twist and turns that'll keep you turning the pages wanting more.

Quick read and entertaining. I can understand that this series has some appeal...especially in the mix of characters. This is the only book I've read in Wallace's Devil series, so I've nothing to compare to. One reviewer commented that she felt she was reading the same story over again with each new book. I could understand that, given that the "new" LIS character in each novel is, by nature of LIS, very reactive, and at that only within his/her thoughts.

Another reviewer commented that he was was unable to put this book down and read it 48 hours; I beat him, reading in less than 24! It's that entertaining and that easy a read! I'll probably read the previous two.

That was quick! This is the third book in a series about people with LIS...Locked In Syndrome....paralyzed but aware and thinking. The team of people that came together over the first two books are working to get Meggie Kerr back to the United States from Costa Rica so that she can be taught to communicate using cameras and computers and a synthesized voice. But there's something sinister going on in the background that they don't know about; someone who doesn't want Meggie to develop a voice. I especially liked the ending, and I won't say more because I don't want to spoil it.

Seven years ago, Meggie Kerr suffered an accident which left her mute and paralyzed. Actually, it wasn't an accident, a so called friend smashed her skull with a rock while spelunking. Now she has been put away in a facility which doesn't allow for any improvement. Several people visit The Devil's Cauldron and try to help her escape this prison. The spelunking takes place in western North America, and the main part is set in Costa Rica.

WHAT AN ORIGINAL AND DIFFERENT STORY LINE IT WAS SHOCKING AND SAD AT TIMES. THE STORY HAD MANY KINDS OF UNEXPECTED HEROES ERIC WAS MY FAVORITE NEXT TO WES & BECCA. KAITLYN DIED A DEATH QUITE FITTING FOR A WITCH, (cackle-cackle) NOW THAT WAS AN EXCITING SCENE. I WAS KEPT ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT ONCE THE RESCUE STARTED I WAS PRAYING AND FLIPPING PAGES HOPING THINGS TURNED OUT RIGHT. YEAH, THIS WAS A REAL PAGE TURNER. (4 1/2*stars) ;D

I began this book somewhere around 7:00 in the evening, planning to read a few hours and finish the next day. I did finish it the next day - at 2:20 AM because I could not put it down. This was so well-written and so exciting! I read this as a part of a boxed set and will be pleased to read others in this series.

Generally, I do not read books that are this short, but this came with a group of mysteries in a package deal. Because of the length, there were several things that were not fleshed out a they should have been, such as how they found out about the woman they wanted to save.

However, the book was readable and mildly engaging.

I really like this book and thought it is the best of the three in the trilogy. The mystery as to how M got hurt kept me turning pages.

Good story

Good story, somewhat predictable ending. I
would recommend this book to friends as a good book to read at the beach.

These are decent books with a new twist that I've enjoyed but they don't quite grab me. Well written and good characters.

Can't believe this book was written by the same Michael Wallace whose previous books I have enjoyed. This was trite and just not very good.

This is the third book in a series that I read in one go. It just got better and better, a terrifying theme which, sadly, I feel is all too real
