Zombies- as if that wasn’t enough to ruin any girl’s dream of a happily ever after.
In the final installment of Love and Decay, Season One, Reagan and the Parkers are forced to face Matthias and his unrealistic demands that they return to The Colony with him as his prisoners.
Gage takes their sides and an argument breaks loose. When Tyler and Miller are dragged into the middle of the tense fight, aggression is unleashed and the struggle to survive in a Zombie Apocalypse takes on a new meaning.
Reagan must fight her way out of the fray, but not everything is as easy as gun shots and knife wounds. Kane holds a power over her heart that she doesn’t understand and doesn’t have the time to examine.
Reagan must protect her heart and those she loves all while trying to get rid of Kane and his father once and for all.

Best Episode EVER!!!! Great ending to the first season of my favorite "show"!
This episode picks up right where the last one left off.
It's crazy to think of everything that Reagan has been through in the past twenty-four hours before this episode, and then to think about all the drama she has to go through in this episode. Just think...she was chased by zombies with hardly any weapons to protect her, she and Kane were trapped in a bunker with zombies fighting to get in, and then she got saved by Matthias - her enemy.
It is a wonder that she has so much energy and can make it through everything when I'm sure my nerves and energy would be exhausted if I were her.
But Reagan is a fighter.
And I guess that the will to live and to be with the people you love is a very motivating factor.
I just want to make one point about the similarity between Hendrix and Kane...
For all those who dislike Kane because he is possessive, aggressive, etc. just think about Hendrix. You cannot honestly tell me that Hendrix isn't like Kane to some capacity. Hendrix claimed Reagan even when she specifically didn't want to be claimed. She wanted her freedom of choice, but Hendrix really didn't allow that. He just had this instant possessiveness over her. He thought he was the one meant to protect her and be with her. The first day they met, Hendrix told her that she had to stay by his side. Hendrix and Kane both took one look at Reagan and wanted to be the one for her. They both claimed her for their own.
The only real difference between Kane and Hendrix is that Reagan chose Hendrix.
And that's great for Reagan. She should get a choice. But what I mean to point out by all of this is that Kane is not as creepy as everyone may think. Yes, he is obsessed with Reagan and wants her for himself. But Hendrix was the same way. It only didn't come off like that because Reagan chose Hendrix.
And yeah...Kane can be kinda demanding, but Hendrix was adamant on staying with Reagan and not letting her go to the south by herself. He wouldn't let her out of his sight. That's just as possessive and obsessive in my book.
Personally, both boys are both very obsessed with Reagan. In real life I would not want either guy after me. They're too controlling and demanding. But Kane wears glasses so....
What can I say? I really like glasses.
This episode is so action-packed and emotion-filled that I LOVED it! As soon as I finished reading it, I just wanted to read it all over again! I think that the action in this episode was the best action so far. It was totally crazy/awesome!
I don't want to give away anything that happens in this episode, I just wanted to say that it was AMAZING and did not disappoint me at all! It was just fabulous!
And now, I would like to share some of my favorite Reagan and Kane moments from this episode:
“Reagan, take in your predicament carefully and say that again.” His eyes narrowed on me behind his black, thick-framed glasses. His full lips pursed together and he leaned into the seat so that we were closer than ever – although Tyler still hovered between us. “You can’t own me, Kane,” I promised.
“This doesn't change anything,” he whispered to me. “You should get the hint by now,” I replied dryly. I picked up his glasses that had fallen on the seat next to me and placed them gently on his face. I rested my hands on his shoulders, keeping my keeping my body from drooping. “I’m not yours, Kane.”
I didn't think he had anything left to fight with. "You'll regret this," he grated. "I already regret this," I answered.
This is an interesting series. It has humour so things don't get too heavy but at the same time they do loose people and there is violence and killing.
The series is a long one and these main characters stories continue for 3 seasons. There is also a spin off series that deals with the sister later.
There is little intimacy. There is touching, hugging and a few kisses but no sex until much later in the last season. The main 2 characters have love interests but due to the nature of the start of the virus and the constant threat there are no intimate scenes until the end of season 3.
Each season ends on a HFN with an enemy thread running through the whole series. Each episode either ends as HFN with a goal set for the next or at times an immediate threat will run across several episodes. At the time I read these the whole series was on Amazon KU so it was possible to read one after the other or complete in a box set. If you start reading and want to get to a HEA you will need to read the entire 3 seasons. There is the immediate zombie threat which is constant but also the series deals with humanities reaction to survival. Often a bigger threat is the desire for power between the surviving groups and these at times use lack of resources and scientific experimentation to control the main threats. Later in the series there is a love triangle situation of sorts for the heroine. It's not exactly a love triangle but there is a dividing force between the main couple due to the interest from another man. There are no intimate details but there is a kissing scene with the other man, but at the time the main couple are not together. The characters are all very different, they have their flaws but they are college age so when they make mistakes and sometimes they are stupid ones I put it down to youth and although they have learnt survival through experience the threat is constant so it's not easy for them to be sensible all the time. There is a good bit of banter between the group and a great deal of humour. There are some serious issues dealt with too and the main human enemy threat is pretty evil.

It is finally time for the group to have the much anticipated showdown with Matthias. Though the group think they have it under some sort of control, they soon realize how wrong they are. Matthias pulls an ace out of his sleeve from the start leaving everyone stunned. Chaos erupts and their lives are all in jeopardy. No one will be safe. No one.
*** "If we just started shooting each other, killing in the same cold blooded we struggled to survive in, we were as lost and hopeless as the Zombie-fied world we suffered through. And I couldn’t' let that happen." ***
This episode will leave you absolutely breathless from the start until finish. Since this series started I don't think I felt so much tension while reading an episode or held my breath quite so much as I did with this one. This one definitely had me on the edge of my seat (literally speaking of course) the entire read.
My heart was breaking fearing the worse for Hendrix. I just knew that if anything was wrong with him, well, me and Mrs. Higginson were going to have words. And Reagan! That girl is one kick arse character if I have ever read one. She fights through a concussion and makes a way where there isn't one. Just love her so much!
I also think this book summed up my feelings for Kane as well. If I thought I had any kind feelings towards him…that was all brought to a sudden stop. Nothing, I repeat, nothing will ever convince me to have any sort of feels for him ever again. Ever. I loathe him and his father something fierce. Unfortunately, I don't think we've seen the last of them.
Higginson gave us readers something phenomenal this year in the form of a series about love and zombies. Zombies and love. Something simple yet different. Something amazing...something great! Now, I just need to know how I will make it through the side effects of going without, shakes and all, until February when Season Two is published. For the love of all that is holy...read this series!
Whoa y'all did my girl Rachel come out with guns blazing for her last episode!!! This was an exciting and emotionally heart wrenching book!!!! I went from screaming and gripping my iPad to crying with overwhelming joy. But I didn't throw my iPad this time, that's bonus points for Rachel right there!!
Ok so let's get into the goodness shall we?? Reagan, Hendrix and Vaughn along with Gabe's help are ready to face Matthias and his men. Unwilling to back down, Matthias threatens to kill everyone in the compound unless Reagan returns to his town. Pleading with Kane to remember his promises to her in the bunker about keeping her family safe, Reagan begs him to stop Matthias. Kane icily refuses and threatens to shoot an important person to our group, then Reagan's world goes dark literally.....
When Reagan regains consciousness, she's in a car with Kane and Tyler is tied up next to her. How did she get there? How will she escape a fast moving car full of men willing to kill just to get her back to Matthias' compound? Can Reagan end Kane's reign of evil forever? You'll have to read Episode 12 to find out!!!!! I want to warn y'all you WILL cry!! An important member or our group gets wounded and you're not sure how he/she is because Rachel takes us with Reagan, way to keep my blood pressure up girl *dirty look at Rachel* The action kicks into high gear with the nail biting scenes in the car between Reagan, Tyler and Kane!! Just when you think it's safe to breath again, BAM!!!! Huge drama!!
No worries though, Rachel makes everything worth it at the end and doesn't leave you hanging too badly at the end!!!! Episode 12 is NOT to be missed, are any of them??
Oh dear lord have mercy...this felt like a bigger episode...mostly just because it had 2 significant sections of action. I mean, first there was the standoff with Matthias and Kane, and so many delicious speeches that just got me right in the ticker (my highlighting finger basically just wanted to highlight all of it). And OMG, I can't even begin to go into the craziness of how that played out. I hadn't been reading that long, but it was so epic and climatic that I honestly thought it was gonna end at that point. But NO! We got a second section of massive suspenseful OMG OMG OMG deliciousness (from an action pov). Honestly, I cried for Reagan. How could you not? That was some epicness Ms. Higginson. Just epicness. LOVED Tyler in those moments too. I've thought some of the other episodes were rollercoasters, but this one is like the MEGA MONSTER rollercoaster of emotions.
So yeah. Great conclusion. Not like a big cliffhanger, but definitely a lot of setup for the next season. Delicious.
Last book for Season 1 (to be picked up again February 14, 2014), and boy was it a doozy.
This time the story picks up a bit after Episode 11, where Reagan was stuck in a bunker with Kane. Now the dreaded meeting with the Allen camp is here and things are not looking good for anyone. Reagan has evolved more as a character and come to a few realizations that have been lingering pretty much since this series started. A bit of all your favorite and not so favorite characters are here. Admittedly I am liking Gage more and more, so hopefully good things happen for him next time!
I found the plot of this novella much more serious and heart wrenching than previous books, probably because the stakes were so high.
Contains the usual guns and violence, but much more intense because they're fighting other humans (instead of zombies). CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE.
This ends Season One of Love and Decay. I so look forward to every two weeks when the new episode came out. Although each was short, maybe an hour and a half of reading, they were only 99 cents each and well worth that. Each episode had an exciting episode furthering the story and the characters, whom I have become very attached to. The author, Rachel HIgginson, tells the story with humor in a way that makes you totally feel you are in the character's shoes. The love story between Reagan and Hendrix has grown into something very deep and these young people have grown up so quickly during the apocalypse.
If you like young adult love stories, you will love this book. If you like excitement, with or without zombies, you will love this story.
I didn't think that I would love this series as much as I did. I fell in love with all of the characters. Reagan was such a strong and loyal charater, all of them were. I loved the family that they became. I also think that there HAS to be a way to redeem Kane. I just know that he is good inside. I hope that theres a way to make him realize that he doesn't love Reagan, and some how ends up helping them...even if it did end the way it did, which showed how bad ass Reagan really is! I just feel so bad for Miller, but I know Tyler will work hard with everyone to get him back. Can't wait until the next season! So glad I decided to give these books a chance, and you can't beat the price. If you have not read this series, you are missing out.
All I can say about this one is WOW!! I almost couldn't handle reading this one; there was so much excitement. I'm not sure what to say about this episode without spoiling it all. All I can say is that it is action packed and drama filled. And I can't believe that the next installment does not come out until February... No!!! I also really enjoyed this one and I love that Rachel didn't end it in a cliff hanger. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time too, I definitely recommend this series and her others as well.
Wow! This was a great action packed ending for the season. I am going to die waiting for Valentine's Day for more.
Reagan blew me away with her actions in this one. Desperate times call for desperate measures, I guess. I was wondering how it would end satisfying, but Rachel pulled it off, at least for most of the characters. I think I am growing a soft spot for Kane. But Hendrix will always be my man.
Have to read this zombie series it's epic. I ignored the call of Spain's sea and sand to read this brilliant series. Kindle one click made me read the entire series while on holidays in Spain. An epic adventure filled with lust, love, blood, kisses, zombies, action, suspense, intrigue, fear and resilience.
GAHHH what have you done to me!? I'm obsessed with this series. Mixed emotions on Kane... Hendrix and Reagan, love you both. Miller. TBA I love the fact that these are novellas/episodes. It's different and fun. I think it's inspired me to write like that. HAVE TO GET MY HANDS ON VOLUME 2!!!! I must!!!
Holy guacamole, this is what im talking about . This episode was go go go I love it!!!! I cannot believe what I just read . Amazing , unbelievable . I was on pins and needles and I am so upset that another wont be out until feb. Sad but great great read .
As always this series is thrilling. I can't believe Reagan did it but I can't find it in myself to judge her. She did what she had to survive. I would like so much for Kane to change but I don't think he can. Pity. He could have been an amazing man.
That's what I'm thinking...and Reagan's got them.... Well kinda, I think she has like 5 or 6 left. Having to do things that no one dares to think of, could this really happen to me?
