I'm still in awe that anyone actually liked this book.. I started to read this on the plane, having mass-downloaded lots of freebies from Amazon for my Kindle. I thought I had mistakenly got hold of extremely bad fanfiction (which I have read, good, great and bad).
The writing style was poor, the grammar on the same level. And while I couldn't bring myself to finish this "book", I can't image the rest being any better. Just more swearing, cheating, anger management issues and ...... ugh. Yeah.
Too much drama can be a bad thing. No character development what so ever. I was literally tired from endless drama on every turn of the page. A little more story build would have made the story so much better.
This book or series just isn’t for me. Do I want to know what’s next bc it ended on a cliff-hanger? yes. Will I continue? Idk.
First: The writing is pretty awful. There’s a significant amount of really stupid errors. It became distracting, especially since this is a short story (under 100 pages).
Second: While I like drama, there’s just too much. Every chapter has something fairly significant happen. And some of it is just too cliche and unoriginal. The time lapse is also unclear but feels like all this happened within like 3 days of Terry getting released from jail.
Third: There’s some weird underlying queer theme but it is also incredulously shrouded by all homophobic themes throughout. There’s trans violence and lots of homophobic ideation. It seems so unnecessary and almost caused me to stop reading right there. The book could still exist without these “plot twists” as I don’t see it bringing any value to the book.
Fourth: Due to the gay interactions when Terry was in jail there’s a risk of HIV which the author continually switches between AIDS and HIV which annoys the shit out of me as they are not the same.
I feel this could have been an interesting story about family dynamics and how easy it is to continue ima life of crime and sticky situations even when you’re trying your best to exit that scene. There is very little character development as each chapter is a different POV. Sometimes the name of the chapter and who actually had the POV is not congruent which goes back to poor writing style again. It had potential but for me fell short and the hate and violence toward queer and trans were too much for me.
I had my pick of characters that I loved despite of their situations. And I read this book in one day so when I finished it I was distraught! Eager to read the next series! I'm very interested in the turn of events at the close of What's Done in the Dark!
Definitely going to finish the series the first book has me hooked. I can't believe it's so much going on and this is only within one family. Can't wait to see how it turns out
This was a good read. This was my first read by this author and it won't be my last. Can't wait till the continuation of the season to find out what happened next.
It was a good read... It had a little too much drama going on for me in one book... Maybe part two or three will settle in and deal with some of the drama that's at hand.
Unsure how this ended up on my list, if it was free or what? My teenage or young adult me would have been intrigued. But my baby boomer me has no interest in thug life
Four stars goes out to this family and all their drama. Mom's got sick and her twins boy and girl both grown had a bunch of mess going on. Terrance had just got out of jail and gave his future baby mama two diseases. Then is twin sister end up pregnant by is best friend. Courtney little brother was off the hook..... Drama
I LOVE THIS BOOK #I never liked reading books with a lot of cussing but I tell u what I could not put it down just call me nosy because I was all about they business
Good book crazy but a good read I'm sure there's a lot of men out there getting out of prison and not telling their wife's or woman that they have been with men. I think that it's already there at that's the excuse they use I was locked up. You can wait if you want to.
All I can say is WOW! I haven't read any urban lit in awhile. This had too much drama for me to digest. If you can get past the numerous grammatical errors in the book, you are sure to become quite engaged with the plot.
