A single short story can make you famous. But it has to be the right kind of short story. It has to be a short story that WORKS. And this ebook will show you how to write one. A short story that works is one which generates it makes your readers laugh out loud; or brings a tear to their eye; or makes their jaw drop open in amazement. The more powerful that emotion is, the more memorable your story becomes. And it makes your readers want more of the same. Building on the ideas of great short-story theorists from the past – Edgar Allan Poe, Professor Walter B. Pitkin, and Thomas H. Uzzell – author Michael Allen adds his own fifty years of experience as a writer and publisher to provide a proven technique for success. The short story was once neglected and unwanted. But the digital age has opened up a whole new market for writers. Don't miss these amazing opportunities. Many previously unpublished writers are now finding readers and earning serious money.
Michael Allen is best known for writing popular mainstream fiction, and he's been doing it successfully for more years than he cares to remember. His first novel was published in 1963.
This is, hands down, the only book on the art of writing short stories that I've found helpful! Michael Allen shares valuable knowledge on how to write a short story that really speaks to readers at a level where they're listening - whether they realize it or not. He's also realistic about telling readers what to expect from writing short stories, and gives plenty of "food for thought" on how (and whether) to proceed with the venture of writing short stories. A great, informative read that I classify as a "must have" in my library. Thanks, Mr. Allen, for sharing your wisdom so candidly and honestly with readers!
I always loved short stories, but have never given myself a chance to writing them.
Lately, I have been pondering “Why Not”!
I stumbled upon this e-book when I was loosely searching for steps to write a story. The first thing that caught my attention was the Title itself, so one key take away which the author subtly wrote about proves to be true here.
The first few words of the book are the most important, and even before someone goes into the first page, the Title serves the purpose to peak your interest, or not.
I like having a structured approach at anything I do, which somehow sometimes proves to be a deterrent pushing me to procrastinate. Hence, find this book as my first read has helped me save an awful amount of time which would have rather gone waste with me trying to form a structure around writing.
If you have anything to do with writing, read this book.
Dear Micheal, you have left behind a legacy for generations to follow and benefit from. Thank you!
Despite a few typos, this is certainly a helpful practical manual for those who are interested in trying out some writing or appreciating of short stories. I find it useful for campaign strategy developing, too, in a weird way. After all, to design a project that is aimed at changing public policies, is almost like writing a short story, isn't it?
I enjoyed the book. His background information and theories are plausible and his considerable resources helped to sell me on his ideas. I'm definitely going to try out his how-to
