The House of Winslow #31
The Shining Badge
Book 31 of House of Winslow. Jennifer Winslow had known only the finest life had to offer--until her family lost everything in the crash of '29. Moving from New York to a small farm in Georgia, Jenny struggles to adapt to her tough new life. Then, through a startling series of events, she finds herself running for County Sheriff. Jenny soon discovers she has fierce enemies among the local moonshiners, gangsters, and even the citizens themselves, who scoff at the idea of a female sheriff. Only two men support her: an idealistic young lawyer and a reluctant deputy. She finds herself drawn to both men and struggles to ferret out God's choice for her. In a blazing shoot-out, Jennifer Winslow finds her way, but not without cost.

Would’ve been a five star but when he referenced the past family he messed up the names. He said Lola was the confederate spy but it wasn’t, it was Belle, which would’ve been her grandma. Such a mistake seems ridiculous when there is a family tree at the beginning of each story.

Jennifer Winslow, after her family losing everything in the stock market crash, becomes the first female sheriff of a small town. Her experiences fighting the powers that be and finding love.

In this latest installment of the House of Winslow series, Jennifer Winslow discovers the corruption of local politics and the prejudices of the local sheriff when she decides to run for sheriff. The bootleggers and the townspeople do not approve of her being a sheriff for different reasons. Other than two men one an idealistic lawyer and the other one is a reluctant deputy. Of course this is in the Deep South during the Depression era where women were expected to get married and have children not work outside the home especially in law enforcement.

10 - I enjoyed this book. Being a woman sheriff in the South (Georgia) during the depression would have been interesting. The author kept it interesting with Jennifer learning all about her duties and the struggles she had with corruption in the government. It was sad when Kermit was shot. I had a feeling she was not going to marry Luke but fall in love with Clay instead. This was a book I didn't want to put down :)

This series by Gilbert Morris is one of my absolute favorites. Each book follows at least one member of a generation in the Winslow family tree and the member(s) gets saved and finds true love. There's also some commentary on the social conditions of the time frame. Truly interesting.

It was okay, I wish she would have married Luke though.

This book takes place in the early depression and dealt with the mob connections and liquor.
