Marvel Super Heroes are quite busy saving the day—from battling crooks and robbers to evil alien invaders, mutants, and super villains! Each of these twelve stories is the perfect length for reading aloud in about five minutes, making them perfect for jam-packed days. This treasury stars all your favorite Marvel Super Heroes—including Spider-Man and Iron Man—and features action-packed, full-page and spot illustrations. Now the Super Heroes's adventures are the way to go before bedtime, on the go, or any moment!
I witnessed an exchange a while back where my then-four-year-old daughter was playing with some other kids, and one of them declared he was a superhero (I forget which - maybe Iron Man). He pretended to use his powers, and my daughter tried to play along, but she didn't know what the powers meant, or even really what a superhero was. I did a quick mental inventory of the movies, games and tv shows she had seen and realized she had virtually zero exposure to superheroes.
Now, I didn't want my daughter to be at a loss when she played with the other kids, and as ubiquitous as superheroes have become today, I felt I needed to introduce my daughter to their world. At the same time, I didn't want her to watch anything too violent or scary for her (she has had nightmares from things as tame as a Halloween episode of My Little Ponies). And then, by happy chance, our neighbor gave us this book.
As detractors of this book have noted, 5-Minute Marvel Stories is kind of shallow. Here's a limerick I wrote that sums up every story in the book:
There once was a superhero chillin'. He was disturbed when along came a villain. They had a big fight But things turned out all right And relax, there's no blood or killin'.
The stories do suffer from a certain sameness and lack of creativity. Yet as an introduction to these superheroes for a young audience, they work great. My daughter enjoyed every story, and now she can hold up her hands and yell, "PSHEW!" with the best of them. So there you go. Recommended for children that aren't allowed to watch the Marvel movies yet.
An adorable little children's book. This managed to blend the heroic fights and childish language perfectly. It made me wish I had kids to read it to! This would be perfect for story time.
Would have been much better if Black Widow and Wasp had stories. They're introduced, but without their own stories, how are the kids supposed to know who they are? Spider-Man had 3 stories in the same book. I just think it could have been allocated much better. Where's Captain Marvel? Black Panther? Having those characters the kids already know like Hulk and Iron Man would be a great way to also introduce new characters in the same book. It just seems lazy. Not to mention some serious out of character moments.
I liked the most was Ant-man and all the other superheroes I loved it it was so fun and cute I loved it and it was so beautiful I like the shiny stuff I love the fighting looking at it and it was good I wanted to have more much and I did and I got the deal is it a lot with all of them too and I want to do that it’s in high just filed ours up and that is good I want to be a long as I want to know and I want one more I love it
My son is a huge Marvel fan and loved every one of these stories. They're the perfect length to read at bedtime if you're short on time. It was great to see that it varied superhero from story to story.
This was an interesting setup for some very tried and true comics. I can't say I am a huge fan but the artwork is sharp. This would have been a lot easier on a larger tablet. It would be a good way to interest younger readers more in the characters and comics.
My son loved this book.I also loved it and looked forward to bedtime stories for the past couple weeks knowing that it wasn't reading the same book over and over again.
Wow I read this book to my little sister last night and she loved it. She immediately slept because she loved it. I recommend this book to you as a bedtime story. That is why she persuaded me to give this book 5 stars. THIS IS AWSOME she said
My child loves the Avengers, Star Wars, and Batman. We read one of these stories every night. They are good short stories, but definitely get tedious after awhile.
good very interesting as i am a big fan of marvel so i give it five stars i am saying all of this because amazon is forcing me to but i really do think its good
My 4-year old granddaughter LOVED LOVED LOVEd this book. She would even do her some of her lessons if I promised to read her another story...or re-read one of her favorites.
Great story book for a early reader. I used it for stories before bed. Not too long, full of kids favorite heroes. New stories, so you're not reading a movie.
This book contains very little diversity. All of the superheroes are of European descent. It was copyrighted in 2012. The character of Black Panther was created well before then.
My daughters love this book. I'm not really sure why. They are only 4 and I don't think they understand most of what is going on in these stories. The stories aren't particularly entertaining. They are dry. I typically like to pick a story that has some sort of morale to it. These do not.
They do have great illustrations. And the title is true to its word. They are just 5 minute stories.
I usually make my husband read this book if this book is their bedtime request.
I read this to my boys at night. They really are just 5-minutes stories so it is easy to say yes to another one. The stories reminded me of the Illiad in that they described in detail each move the good and bad guys would make in a battle including their really bad punch lines. :) But, my boys loved them and were avidly listening to each story.
I like comics and I like the Avengers. I don't often read Marvel comics (except Deadpool), but that's only because I'm not hugely into the story lines of super heroes. Nonetheless, I do like Marvel. These stories, however, were really boring. They down right sucked. This book was difficult to even finish.
