1.5 stars - I wish this had been Rowan's backstory to getting over her toxic ex, Liam, and finding someone else

The best thing about Nora Roberts’s books is that all the sweet and magical romance makes you forget all your tensions. Well atleast they do this for me! I liked this one a lot because it was different, firstly the lead male-witch, Liam, was a shape-shifter and second the female lead, Rowan, was also a witch, coming from a family of a long-forgotten but a real one!
Rowan as a character was brilliant and successfully flaunted the stuff women go through atleast once in a lifetime like confused, vulnerable, burdened and on the tricky edge to make a life-changing decision. On the other hand, Liam is a typical egoistic and arrogant male character with “I-take-all-the-f***ing-decisions” attitude. He behaves snobbishly and keeps throwing the excuse-ball of responsibility on everyone’s face. I guess I’ve made it quite clear that I really didn’t like Liam but trust me it didn’t ruin my reading experience because at the end Rowan had the nerves to ask Liam to literally beg and confess his love. That douche-bag really deserved it! That little moment literally made up for everything!
I liked the angle of a Rowan’s grandmother’s forgotten legacy. After reading Captivated, Entranced and Charmed, loosely based on the same concept, except for all the different styles of love-making ;) , this one was totally different.
The writing was simple and the plot was interesting. If you’ve read the other books from the series then you’ll be happy to know that in this book we get to meet Morgana’s, Ana’s and Sebastian’s families as well. It really felt good to read about all the cousins again, as over the first three reads, one really develops a relation with the leads.

What was Roberts thinking, tagging this awful drek onto the end of an otherwise OK series (probably just to make me pick it up, right?)
Well, this is nothing like the other books (well, what I managed to slog through, anyway): the hero seems to be impulsive, arrogant and controlling - . Urgh. The girl is super annoying to (about a wet as a used tissue thrown into a lake).
Gave up less than a third in. This is going back to the charity shop from which it came!

"Enchanted" is an older, very sweet, mystical, sensual romance. All the elements you expect from a Nora Roberts Romance. I see elements of other NR romances here, but the story is unique and I really liked it. The setting is on the Oregon coast and Liam is a Donovan cousin. As a wrap to the series, I loved seeing the others, about five years in the future, but the story is all Liam and Rowan.
Rowan Murray has grown increasingly dissatisfied with the role as dutiful daughter, teacher and girlfriend to her parent's choice of a life mate. When a friend offers her cabin on the Oregon Coast, she decides to take some time and figure out what Rowan wants.
Liam Donovan is also taking time out at a cabin on the Oregon Coast. His wants his choices to be his own, not dictated to him by legacy or blood. When he meets Rowan, he wants what happens between them to be his choice and his alone.
Drawn together from the moment they meet, they circle each other and Liam wraps Rowan in sensual dreams and the friendship of a mysterious wolf. As she finds out what Rowan wants and who Rowan really is, she isn't happy that Liam is withholding things from her. She loves Liam and wants him, but is that Liam's choice?

I don’t usually enjoy writing reviews for books I don’t immensely enjoy- but this is the first time I’ve read a Nora Roberts book that I didn’t like.
*spoilers ahead*
HOW CREEPY IS LIAM. HELLO HE IS LITERALLY (in wolf form) IN BED, IN THE BATHROOM WATCHING HER NAKED AND LICKING HER.
This is some next level Twilight pervert bullshit.
Also he’s invading her dreams at night, but gaslighting her in the day? Seriously wtf? Liam is one of the worst male protagonists I’ve ever encountered- he’s a male chauvinist who has literally taken choice after choice away and then tries to mansplain why he’s done it.
I’m honestly a bit heartbroken that Nora created this kind of character and tagged this horrible book to the end of what was going to be a lovely series.
The only highlight was seeing the Donovan cousins towards the end of the book.

Wow! Never thought I'd see the day when I wouldn't finish a Nora Roberts book and give it a 1 star rating but here it is. Why was this included as a fourth book in the Donovan series? Crash and burn for me.

Who remembered Nora had written a shifter, not me!!! Anyway, this one is fine, but insufficiently connected to the other books to make it really interesting in the way that some of her other series continuations are.

Ok, I planned to give 4 stars like the others in this series but I took away one star for the manipulative H and because I felt he should have been the one apologising ... instead of h giving him another chance ... h was sweet and she showed tremendous growth ... she also was brave ... but no mistake, this was a good book ... loved H's parents who keep on giving him advice ...

Rowan Murray needs to think about her life, what she wants out of it, and how to get it. Her parents have been making her decisions for her all this time, and it is just not what she wants. They are both brilliant academics, and want her to be a teacher as well, going for her doctorate, and marrying Alan. But she doesn’t want to be a teacher, she knows she is not good enough and her heart is not in it. Even though she loves to learn. So she has come to this lovely little cottage in the middle of the woods on the Oregon Coast to think. To just enjoy herself, without pressure from anyone else.
Who would have thought she would find a handsome stranger there, who makes her heart beat faster? And that beautiful black wolf who keeps appearing whenever she is out for a walk, and who seems to be keeping her company?
Her neighbour is Liam Donovan, a powerful witch, and slated to be his father’s successor as head of the family, and counsellor in magical disputes. He doesn’t know if he wants the position or not, and if he wants it, he needs to be married to a woman with elvin blood. So this attraction to Rowan Murray is very dangerous. He doesn’t want to be led by destiny; he wants to makes his own choices. Staying with her in wolf form is much safer, or else he would ravish her. She has such a low self esteem; she doesn’t know how lovely she is. And as wolf, he can share her bed with her, and take care of her when she falls asleep as usual: sitting upright, reading. He can share her dreams if he wants to, make love with her that way.
Both Liam’s parents want him to hurry. To look inside of her, and see for himself. But Liam is stubborn, and doesn’t want to do that. He does encourage Rowan to make a profession of her drawings. She only sees it as a little hobby, but she is very good. Liam is designing a new computer game, and her drawings would be perfect to complement it. And so her new career begins, and the difficult job of telling her parents that she won’t be coming back to the city, she wants to stay here in Oregon, and buy herself a little cottage and start a garden.
Time is running out for Liam though, he has to tell Rowan who and what he is, and to show her her own heritage, teach her. Can she accept it all, and him? And can he choose for her out of love instead of obligation, or reject her because of the same thing?
Another little gem of a book by Nora Roberts. I liked Rowan a lot. It took courage to decide to go away for a few months, when she has always been pressured and persuaded by her parents to do the sensible thing, which is what they want for her. But she doesn’t want to go for her doctorate, and she doesn’t want to marry Alan. She is not in love with him, and neither is he with her.
I loved how she discovered herself, and to enjoy herself, just doing nothing. Lying on her stomach and watching the ocean, and the fishing boats, and the birds. And discovering the big black wolf, and to tame it with cookies. She wanted to be able to do everything herself, so she bought books on plumbing, on car maintenance, how to work a generator. Everything so she wound not be depended on a stranger if something happened.
She did not deny her attraction to Liam, but she was very naïf when she met his parents in their animal form. How can you not know that something was not right, that something magical was happening?
Liam was a great brooding hero. Wanting to make all the decisions in his life for himself, and not guided by fate or destiny. But by not telling Rowan the truth, he denied her to make her own choices for herself. And in the end, that really bit him in the backside. I loved how Rowan stood up to him, and just walked out. But my favourite scene is the afternoon spend with his cousins and their families. I loved that little peek in their lives a few years later from their HEA’s.
I do recommend this series to all lovers of sweet romances with just that touch of magic in them. I want to find me a Donovan all for myself!

Just awful - until a brief section near the end of the book, there is no clue to a tie in to the rest of the Donovan Legacy books. It definitely should have been left as a trilogy and this book not written/published. Liam is an arrogant, condescending, awful man who treats everyone like they are beneath him. Rowan is an extremely weak willed, no self esteem, doormat; and maybe just the way the speaker read the audiobook but Rowan sounded like a simpleton with every word from out of her mouth. There is just no real story for entertainment - we're just waiting for them to "fall in love" and Liam to reveal himself as a witch. Essentially what the original trilogy was about but those had interesting/good characters to engage you; this book had no good characters or storyline. One book too many in the series.

Loppujen aivosolujen kanssa kituutimme läpi selkä kaarella voihkimisten, kiihkosta tummenevien silmien ja ah-niin-seksikkäiden (lue: vaaleiden ja laihojen/lihaksikkaiden) hahmojen "rakkaustarinan" (lue: panettaa pakkomielteisesti -tarinan). Tämä oli niin ällöttävän paatoksellisen siirappista, että juon hetken aikaa martinini kuivana, kiitos.
Yleisesti todettakoon, että tämän teoksen mukaan on unelma, että miehet keskustelevat urheilusta ja naiset lapsista (yhtäkkiä tarinaan pölähti hirveästi lapsia, ja totta kai naisen täytyy haluta perhe, duh). "Oikeanlainen" seksi liitetään viattomuuteen (tai sen menettämiseen), ja tämä viattomuus menetetään vain oikealle tosisonnille, vaikka neitsyys olisi jo poksahdellut vähempisonnien kanssa. Samaan aikaan ristiriitaisesti esitetään, että seksi = rakkaus. Eeeeeeei näin. Kliseistä, stereotyyppistä, toksista, ja itseäni toistaen, p*skaa. Kontrolloivaa miestä romantisoidaan, ja nainen on lapanen, vaikka hänestä yritetään kirjoittaa toiminnallista. Yritykseksi jäi. Periaatteessa tässä hankitaan seksiin suostumus, käytännössä ei. Jesus. I can't believe I used to like this book (I was 17, but still). This book was really hard to read.
First of all, nothing really happened in the book. Seriously, nothing. There was zero plot. It was hard for me to pick the book up and finish it.
Second of all, it was such an artificial addition to the first 3 books - if Liam is so important, why haven't we heard about him? or even about his parents? and I even feel like the magic shown in this book is so different than the magic shown in the previous books.
Moreover, the female lead, Rowan, had no spine or personality whatsoever, but it was far from the worst problem in the book. The main problem of this book, which made this book so difficult to read, was the male lead, Liam. He is so arrogant and abusive. The list of his wrongdoing is almost endless - So, in general - he gas-lighted her, was always mad at her, and did a lot of stuff without consent. The fact that Rowan accepted all of this and was instantly in love with him was so pathetic.
In conclusion, just don't read this - find another Nora Roberts book to read.

sooo… i liked the idea of the book and the world in it. i sympathized with fmc maybe a bit too much. but i really didn’t like mmc. he manipulated and gaslighted fmc for 90% of the book. at the end after he broke her heart with “break up” trope, his mommy went to fmc and asked her to come back to her son bc he was hurting. 🥺🥺🥺🥺 so i don’t know how to rate this book.
reading this book as a standalone as even i read the series i don’t remember anything or anyone.
it was problematic that liam wanted to touch her when she was sleeping. i thought it wasn’t addressed properly by heroine. he was “making love to her in her mind” aka invading her dreams and leaving her wondering if she’s going crazy.
he was gaslighting her so hard.
oooh she was going to feel betrayed and hurt when she discovered that her wolf was liam. it’s like when your guy best friend wasn’t there actually for friendship only.not me being upset that she wasn’t mad enough after the revelation.
i feel like i should give this book a benefit of the doubt bc it was written before i was born but what the hell? liam was an ass and every other supportive character told him so. rowan was in constant state of anxiety about his mood swings and his actions. she was always doubting her feelings.
so it was a frustrating book with a beautiful picture in it.
reading this book as a standalone as even i read the series i don’t remember anything or anyone.
it was problematic that liam wanted to touch her when she was sleeping. i thought it wasn’t addressed properly by heroine. he was “making love to her in her mind” aka invading her dreams and leaving her wondering if she’s going crazy.
he was gaslighting her so hard.
“Why she had an image of him leaning over her, leaning close, with his mouth a breath away from hers. Only a breath away.
"You're daydreaming again, Rowan.”
“The door…"
"It's open."
She'd been certain she'd locked it when she'd rushed in out of the storm. Obviously not, she thought now”
oooh she was going to feel betrayed and hurt when she discovered that her wolf was liam. it’s like when your guy best friend wasn’t there actually for friendship only.
“It's so good to have a friend who doesn't expect anything but friendship.”
i feel like i should give this book a benefit of the doubt bc it was written before i was born but what the hell? liam was an ass and every other supportive character told him so. rowan was in constant state of anxiety about his mood swings and his actions. she was always doubting her feelings.
so it was a frustrating book with a beautiful picture in it.

Liamin ja Rowanin tarina olisi toiminut paremmin itsenäisenä tarinana, kuin neljäntenä osana Donovanien perinnössä. Tarina olisi toiminut myös niin, ettei edellisosien Donovanien luona oltaisi varsinaisesti käyty - heihin olisi voinut viitata kaukaisempina serkkuina. Itseäni lukijana ärsytti suuresti, ettei kolmessa aiemmassa osassa mainittu sanallakaan Liam-serkusta - joka nyt kumminkin tuntui olevan varsin hyvää pataa hieman vanhempien serkkujensa kanssa.
Kirjassa oli kepeä, sadunomainen tunnelma. Harmillisesti Roberts poukkoili useammanlaisen juonipolun kanssa kirjaa kirjoittaessaan, eikä vienyt mitään kunnolla loppuun - tai siltä tämä ainakin minulle lukijana jäi vaikuttamaan.

I’ve read this book so many times over the years, and it remains one of my favorites if only for the magical elements and Irish tales woven into it. Of the four Donovan books in the series, this is my second favorite because I live for broody, cranky magical males. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite storytellers, and rereading this was just what I needed at the moment!

2.5 stars rounded down - story/plot was enjoyable enough, serious issues with the weird consent/invasion of privacy issues that are made to seem romantic?? Written in the 90s but still wild.

This is the fourth book in the Donovan series. I truly love Nora Robert’s books that incorporate Irish folklore! It was an Enchanting story of love and self discovery!

I picked up the audiobook of Enchanted by Nora Roberts because I like this series, and I like the narrator (Alexander Cendese). Enchanted is about Rowan Murray, a young woman who isn't happy in her current life. She rents a cottage away from her family because she needs some space. There she meets Liam Donovon, who is also needing some space from his family. Liam is from a family of witches, and he's struggling with his responsibilities regarding magic and his family in Ireland.
Rowan and Liam were really great together. I've read a lot of Nora Roberts' books, and almost always do I feel like her heroes and heroines match well together, and that is definitely the case here. I couldn't help but root for them. I really loved Rowan, and could understand her need to reflect on her life and make some changes, even if it doesn't make her family happy. I also liked Liam, who is a very typical Nora Roberts hero. He's a bit gruff, and cocky, but he is also a nice person. That said, I can't say that Enchanted is really a standout among all of Roberts' novels. I enjoyed it reading it, but once it was over, almost all the details slipped away.
If you are a Nora Roberts fan, and if you have liked the other Donovon books, then I definitely think you should read Enchanted. But if haven't read NR because, I think there are better novels to start with.This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook

Liam is another magical Donovan cousin who can shape-shift into a black wolf. Actually, he is a prince that is on the verge of the biggest decision of his life. He must decide if he will bend to fate and take his father's throne or go his own way as is his right to choose. Rowan is an ordinary teacher who is unhappy with her career, her boyfriend and her life. She borrow's a family member's cabin in the woods for three months to be alone and decide her life. Her first day there she spots a black wolf and befriends him. Her second day there, she meets Liam who does not endear himself to her but does stir her blood. The first half of the book worried me a little bit because I could not tell where it was going. Liam invaded her privacy and she was a bit of a door mat. As the book moved along the characters learned some lessons and improved. There is a scene in the book where we get to meet the three main cousins in the series and see where they are in their lives to wrap it up.

June 1, 2014Just could not finish this book. I was totally put off of this story by the third chapter. If there were a list of the worst NR books ever, this would be at the top of my list. Why?
We were given no indication in the other 3 books that this cousin existed, yet, here he is in line to be the grand poo pah. If his role in the family were so important why not mention him thru out the other 3 books?
Who in their right mind leaves food out for a wolf living in the wild? Seriously? You really WANT a wild animal lurking on your porch? Sheeeesh.
Once Rowana lets the beast into her home after just a few days, and allows him to follow her to bed, I was sure I'd had about enough. Again, who the hell does this?
The final straw was when Liam forced a sexual dream upon Rowana. They had barely even spoken yet he feels compelled to force himself on her thru her mind. That's it. I'm done.
No idea why this was added on to the series.

If I was starting to lag with the concept of this series, this book brought me right back to it. I absolutely loved the premise at the location in the Pacific Northwest. Rowan is trying to figure herself out and even if there may have been some supernatural prompting, she takes the big leap to figure it all out on her own. Rather than being content with a lackluster life, she makes a leap and lands herself in a new passion, a new approach and a new intriguing neighbor.
Liam is also trying to sort out his life. He’s the unmentioned cousin of Morgana, Sebastian and Anastasia and somehow manages to fit in with their dynamic just fine. It’s nice that the characters have a chance to get to know each other rather than falling into instalove (well, perhaps in parallel).
Warning: Contains sexual content.
Who should read it? Romance fans who like the flair of subtle fantasy thrown in.

Rowan Murray has come to the realization that she has been living her life to please her loved ones and that she is unhappy in her job and life path. She is unsure what will make her happy but decides to take the time to figure out what she wants. Rowan borrows her friend Belinda’s cabin on the Oregon coast to find herself. Once at the cabin, Rowan continuously spots a black wolf in the woods and then meets her mysterious and reclusive neighbor, Liam Donovan. Liam is also taking some time to figure out his own life path and he resents Rowan’s presence and the draw he feels towards her. This love story is very introspective and I love Rowan's internal journey to confidence.
