The problem here is while the concept story has merit, and possibly so does the technology and science, the writing is crap.

Damon Runyon can write run-on sentences, James Joyce can write stream of conscious. Because they are damn great writers. Hecht has problems with sentence construction. With fragments, with points of view, with dialogue tagging. All pointing to the fact that this book needed many editors to turn the story into readability. If errors like this drive you crazy, stay away.

Nice series, from an author that really likes sci-fi. On the other hand, this series is a prequel and reads more like a summary, eg large parts of the story are just described, not fictionalised. And too much is wasted in interludes among characters, adding nothing to the plot but much to the number of pages. Probably a collateral damage from watching too much TV series..

Fascinating!!!

Simply awesome in its ingenuity. This is something we could do in the next few decades, or at least get started on. But humanity will never be able to come together to accomplish it without some terrible event catalyzing us into orbit we are too wrapped up in our own microcosm and have stopped looking up at the stars in wonder(as a species). I despair for all the wonders that will be lost is we don't GET OFF OUR A$$ and work together.
