In Kiss or Keep by Debra Phillips, we follow Lovell, a charming but troubled young man struggling to find love. Recently dumped by his longtime girlfriend, Rita, after a violent altercation, Lovell finds himself severely injured and homeless. As he roams the streets of Santa Ana, California, unsure of his next move, he decides to visit an old friend, Yolanda.
Yolanda, familiar with his opportunistic behavior, knows he’s in need of shelter but has a new lover who wouldn’t be happy with another man in the house. Instead, she takes Lovell to Park One Memorial Hospital after he begins losing excessive blood from a stab wound. At the emergency room, Lovell pleads with the receptionist to see a doctor, despite lacking insurance or money to pay for services. Hearing the commotion, another employee, Nylah, steps in to help him.
At the sight of Nylah, Lovell feels an instant attraction. She leads him to a room, offering him the comfort of knowing he’ll have a place to stay for at least a while. Days later, Lovell wakes up to a strange woman warning him to leave the hospital and follow her. Confused, he learns that he is being hunted his blood has special healing properties.
The mysterious woman turns out to be Nylah’s younger sister, Barbara Jean. Lovell soon finds himself torn between his growing feelings for one of the sisters, but he soon realizes that love may come at the highest price his life.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a mix of romance and thriller, especially toward the end.
