Imitation of Life

Oliva Delgado left her name, her ethnicity and life behind in Fresno, California, and started anew as Olivia Machado in Los Angeles. She built a new life very similar to a house of cards; one lie stacked on top of another. And like a house of cards, her façade is in danger of collapsing.

It’s been a while since a character has made me want to jump into a book and whip on them. Oliva/Olivia is one such character. Shelley Halima did a great job of creating a character you loved to hate. Yet, at times, you couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. Signs of a good writer.

I enjoyed the ethnic flavor of “Blinding Mirror.” With so many books today being so black and white (pun intended), this was refreshing. The pace was good and the story kept my interest. There were a few quirks in the editing but not enough to prove too distracting.

Shelley Halima’s “Blinding Mirror” (I didn’t get the title or cover, though.) is a good read and easily recommendable. For me, it was reminiscent of “Imitation of Life” with a gold-digging twist. I look forward to “Crimson Mirror.”

Olivia Delgado wants to disappear from her horrible life in Blinding Mirrors by Shelley Halima. After having an encounter with a friend’s brother, Olivia is left pregnant, unwanted and ready to leave the horrible environment she lived in. Olivia starts working for a construction company where she meets the owner, Gino Valente. Olivia soon becomes Mrs. Valente and things start to look up for her. After Olivia gives her husband two beautiful twin girls everything starts to change in her and Olivia cannot control herself.

Gino Valente believes Olivia can give him everything he has been missing and that is a true family. When Gino starts seeing a change in his wife, he decides to set up a little surprise. Can he handle the outcome?

Twenty-five years later and Olivia is still up to her old tricks but now she has recruited her daughter, Lourdes, into her schemes. Olivia and Lourdes head back to Georgia to handle some unfinished business. Unbeknownst to Olivia, she will have to handle a whole lot more when her past is revealed.

Blinding Mirror is about family, deceit and drama. This book has a decent storyline that covers the transformation of an abusive young teenager into a money-hungry woman who loves attention. It was suspenseful and entertaining and I recommend this book to others.

It started off really interesting. I had no idea the Main character was going to turn into a mega selfish bitch. Some parts were kinda cheesy and there was a lot of un needed dialogue but I will read second book.

started out good and then TMI. I don't care for books that have pages and pages of dumb dialog. I actually put it down. Dumb

This was such a goo d book, great characters. The only disappointment is that it is a series and the next book isn't out until Winter 2012/2013... I can't wait.
