Love You First

Author Kennedee Devoe is the book’s main character as she gives readers chapter by chapter a glimpse into her past relationships. A young woman with a lot of growing to do, Kennedee goes from relationship to relationship seemingly not learning as she continues to make the same old mistakes and falls back on the need for revenge to even scores.

I wanted to like this book more than I actually did. My hat’s off to the author for laying bare her soul for readers. Some of our stupid mistakes we’d rather forget and act as if they never happened while this author chose to expose hers to be read by the masses. Because it’s the author’s own true experiences, I can’t judge her or knock her for what she did or didn’t do or how I would have handled a situation, but, as a book published as fiction, the execution of those experiences was problematic. This book offers a worthy message to readers and I appreciate that. Unfortunately, along the way readers are doused with account after account of a relationship gone wrong. After so many chapters, each about a different guy and a new experience, it became monotonous. Too many similar experiences with the same results. The character repeated her actions over and over without learning or maturing. It got so that I just wanted to fast forward to the point where she grew up. Because this book is based on the author’s life, I think Devoe made the mistake that many authors do when relating their own story – thinking everything should be included because it really happened. This book could have been more effective had the experiences been cut in half or only to those that had an impact on getting her to where she is today.

Tupac, Malik Yoba, Ginuwine and Tank all made guest appearances. Normally I would be thrilled but not when it’s in exchange for an author actually describing their characters.

Cosmetically, the cover was a fail for me. A carry-a-book-with-me reader, I always have a book in hand. On more than one occasion I was stopped and questioned about this book based on the cover. None of the responses were favorable and I have to agree. Also, obviously no book is error free, but the less errors the better. To the author/editor/publisher, please keep in mind the rules of punctuation in relation to quotation marks.

Devoe’s debut, “Two Wrongs Don’t Make It Right...it Makes Us Even,” can be viewed as a cautionary tale for young women touching on themes such as self-worth. By no means a bad book, it lacks balance in its execution by taking too long to get to the point, resulting in loss of interest and patience. With the assistance of a developmental editor, I think this author has potential. I’m glad that her “time has come” and that she is the woman she is today.

First off, I think the cover was very fitting for the content of the book. The Kennedee of this book was off the chain! I am still baffled that the person in this book and the person I met are one and the same. What that tells is that people can and do change. My life has been changed by the power of God. The change that has taken place has been radical. The book again was a quick, easy read which I like. Some of the content was hard to read but I pressed through it. There were a couple of typos but the language was understandable and the story was relevant and could definitely help young ladies not fall for the okie doke.

Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right...It Makes Us Even is the gripping real life truths of Kennedee Devoe's relationships.

Ms. Devoe holds nothing back as she explains her life's journeys and due to her boyfriends' nonsense, it made her act in some ways that is a little less lady-like. Whether admitted or not, we all have experienced some of these stories in one way or another although not all of us would put it in a book like Ms. Devoe has.

Reading this book, it helps you see anyone could overcome the negative forces in their life as they grow and turn their lives around. It only took one hard core experience to make Kennedee see that this was not the life she wanted to live. It was God's plan to have Kennedee come through this experience without the rose colored glasses on in order to be able to relate this message to others who are in need of this 'in your face' story.

There will be times throughout the story, you would shake your head and wonder what is going on in this young lady's life to make her keep picking the wrong man but as the story progresses, Kennedee becomes a mature woman who now makes the best decision for long term growth.

Bravo to Kennedee and congrats on becoming the woman that you can look in the mirror and be proud of.

In author Kennedee Devoe's debut novel, she bares herself and past relationship experiences. The novel is totally believeable, because we either know a woman like that, or we were a woman like that. What makes this book different is that you can see her growth & progression as each relationship passes.

You can't read this book w/o thinking back to some of the past relationships you've had, and the mistakes that were made. It shows how it's easier to say what you would or wouldn't have done when it's not you who is having that particular experience. This novel is real, raw, gritty, and honest. You can tell that Kennedee poured her heart & soul out in this book. There were a couple parts that made me laugh out loud, and other parts had me in tears, literally. One thing is certain though, you can definitely see her growth to maturity as the pages progress.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and would definitely recommend it! Looking forward to her next book!

In the debut novel by Author Kennedee Devoe, she takes us on a journey through her past relationships and experiences. From experiencing her first taste of heartache, all the way up to adulthood, you see the progression she has made throughout her life.

" Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right : It Makes Us Even" took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. It had moments that made me mad, moments that made me laugh and moments where I really had to think. I loved how it was told through the first person point of view. It definitely focused on life choices and decisions that affect us through life. This would be a great book for a young adult or teen in my opinion. It started off a little bit slow but quickly picked up. Looking forward to reading more from this author. 4.5 stars

Author Kennedee Devoe brings us a drama filled and juicy book about the relationships she has been in with not so stellar men. Sick of being lied to and cheated on, she decides to get even with each man that does her wrong.

While reading this book, you can certainly identify with the different woes of each man that comes into her life. As women, we have been cheated on or lied to at least once in our lives. The incidents and predicaments Kennedee gets involved in will make you shake your head and wonder just how far she will go to get her revenge? I enjoyed watching her grow from a girl to a woman and realizing that just because someone hurts you, doesn't mean you have to hurt them back. Many women will be able to relate to this novel and learn lessons in the process. Definitely a recommended read!

This is the story of Kennedee's different relationships. Almost all of them were with bad men. What made this story a twist for me was that she didn't let these men get away with how they treated her. She took matters into her own hands. Some of the scenes were comical and some were rather depressing.

The drawback to the story is this: about halfway into it, it became redundant and I was hoping for an ending that would make up for all the nonsense that she went through. I didn't get that ending I hope for; however, Kennedee explained herself at the end which was justifiable for me.

This cautionary tale a good read for any woman who has self-esteem issues and for someone who's about to head in the same direction as the author. Apart from that, it was a good read.

I won this book in one of my facebook bookclubs and I'm glad I did. Some of the men that Kennedee dated made me wonder if we have run into the same men...LOL! This book took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. At some points I thought Kennedee had lost her mind but on the other hand I understood the hurt & the pain she was going through. No one wants to be played. I found myself cheering her on and hoping she had a happy ending. I can't tell you everything that happens but I will tell you to get the book. It was a great read!

This was a page turner. This book had me laughing and crying. I cried because I could see in some of the situations they were seriously bad. She made your mind wonder to the what could have happened. I laughed because Kennedee put some humor in each story. I'm sure they weren't all that funny while she was going through it. But, it was nice to see that she could find humor in her pain. I saw within each story some friend/cousin of mine doing these same things trying to get revenge. I truly enjoyed the ride.

This story drove me crazy! I know I am a little different from most females, people always tell me I act like a dude cause my patience is very low for people's bulls**t and if a brother puts his hands on me there is not get back, we are tearing is up!! Now since it is our body we are more responsible for protecting it than he is if you know you don't want any kids. All those pregnancies were ridiculous! We all ignore our first mind sometimes but over and over again? You gotta take responsibility for your own f**k ups. This story drove me crazy, I wanted to shake her a few times lol

Kennedee allows the reader a raw and authentic look into her life. The book is an easy read as it flows from one failed relationship to the next. Her lack of personal growth was frustrating to read at times, but her honesty was appreciated. I had the pleasure of meeting the author at a book signing and her smile leads me to hope she has found her worth and has broken the cycle detailed in Two Wrongs...

I hate that it took me so long to read this book. Kennedee not only told a excellent story about the ups & downs of relationships but she bared her soul & left not 1 stone unturned. Her dating triumphs & countless heartaches took me for a ride as she came into her own. I really enjoyed this book & I would recommend this read

Good book. Man the things we put ourselves through as women. But like the old saying goes, "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". Those types of experiences make us the WOMEN that we are today. I wish I would have had some of the gall that you had to get some of them suckers back....lol.

I am not a big fan of Street Lit, after winning this book in an on line chat I decided to give it a try. IMO it was poorly written, several grammatical errors . In the 21st Century I do not believe a teenager coming into adult hood will be that uncaring about her self and her well being.
