The Madams of Mischief

Rate this book
D.J. Marty Sheffield just wants to live her quiet life in her quiet town while recovering from being left at the altar by up-and-coming country music star, Ricky Ray Riley. Destiny, and her sisters, Lady Luck and Fate, those Madams of Mischief, have other ideas, though. While babysitting her sister's kids, Marty finds the body of a former classmate wedged in a ninety-gallon trash container at a local park. With the help of her sister, Charli, and her best friend and police officer, Tim Unser, Marty sets out to solve the mystery and save her own hide. Her mom, the beautiful Maggie Sheffield, and Marty's budding romance with a hot mechanic threaten to derail the search. Much mayhem ensues, including a run in with a dotty old lady, a riot at an on-location broadcast, and a fire that nearly costs Marty her life.

Mild mannered high school teacher by day; plotter of mischief and murder by night. I wrote my first "book" in third grade. Sadly, the sole copy has been lost to the ages. I love hearing from readers and I hope you'll give me a shout!

If you like to gossip or get really invovled in someone else gossiping then this is the book for you. Sherry Siska takes off on a gallop and quickly cranks her storytelling up to a run with true enthusiasm, excellent character description and exciting plot scenarios. She grips her readers from the get go and draws them into becoming the nosy neighbor who cannot resist ease-droping. It is a murder that meets desperate housewives which meets the amateur detective. I so enjoyed this book. It is fast paced, thrilling and entices the reader to repeat the story. So winning this as a Goodreads giveaway was priceless. A must read for all and I am anxious to see just how far this author will climb in the top ten polls.

Thanks to Goodreads and Sherry Siska for my copy of The Madams of Mischief.

Who knew reading about murder could be so much fun. Wonderfully written plot, and characters you will truly enjoy. Looking forward to reading more of her work.

Good for a laugh

If you like Stephanie Plum, you will like Marty Sheffield and the gang. Laugh out loud funny. Likable characters who get themselves in ridiculous situations.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and kept you guessing who did it. I was smiling at the end. Totally kept me reading til I finished it. This is the kind of book that is a clean read, no bad language and a little bit of romance without all the sex scenes that other writers feel they have to have to make the book acceptable .

Fun Read. Do you like comedy with your mystery? If so, this book is for you. Marty gets herself into the worst situations. She also proves the axiom that no good deed goes unpunished. While babysitting her sisters monsters--er, children--she finds a dead body. Suspects abound. Seems the victim wasn't exactly loved by all. I'll be looking for more stories by the talented Sherry M. Siska.

This is a great first effort from the author, who pulled me in with a protagonist I immediately wanted to root for and kept me intrigued with fast-paced action and humor. The characters were fully drawn and the various relationships felt real. I was reminded of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novels, minus the vampires and werewolves. I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series.

Book 1 of 3 in the series "Doom Divas". Sherry M. Siska is the cousin of our Freddy Marshall. Freddy was formerly Mayor of Lockesburg, AR and friend of the library. Sherry's books have done very well I understand in ebook sales. "Madams of Mischief" is a well thought out and cleverly paced mystery. The characters are well developed. You just can't help relating to them. Poor Marty, "if it's not one thing then it's your mother."

This is a wild tale of Marty Sheffield. Destiny, Lady Luck, and Fate -- the Madams of Mishief -- seem to have many surprises in store for Marty! When Marty makes a discovery that could incriminate her, Marty must race to clear her good name! Will she suffer a bad rap or return to a quiet life? The ending is unexpected, and this book is very much recommended to all readers!

A very funny story with a good mystery to boot. The characters were authentic, and I enjoyed the relationship between Marti, her sister, Charli, and their mother. The situations were silly and yet believable. Highly recommended for fans of madcap mysteries.

"Quirky"

I felt I had to plough through a lot of extraneous detail to get to the end. Maybe that was just me missing the jokes. It's an okay quirky story but nothing extraordinary and I never laughed out loud once.

Marty Sheffield agrees to watch her sister’s skids. With a small apartment and a skittish cat, she decides a trip to the park will keep everyone happy. Her bet doesn’t pan out as she plans. Tossing a dirty diaper in a trash can starts a chain of events that lead to danger and unveiled secrets. It also seems to jumpstart her love life which seems to have floundered since her former fiancé chose fame over their nuptials, proclaiming the end of their relationship in a song that seems to play all of the time. But will she survive all this excitement?

While Marty’s hot mess of a life amused me, some parts of the story begged too much suspension of unbelief. How could she be so oblivious to her longest running secret admirer? Among other things…

The Madams of Mischief was an enjoyable story. The characters are likable, the plot moves at a steady pace, it's well-written, and there are plenty of suspects and motives. I didn't solve the murder in this one. I was almost right but not 100%. There was a subplot concerning Vanessa that I felt was a bit bizarre but that's just my opinion. I didn't find the story to be laugh-out-loud funny but it did have some humorous parts. This is my first book by this author and I will probably read some more of this series.

First, this wasn’t the worst book I’ve read, but it’s certainly not the best. So often when I read cozy mysteries I figure it out, but this surprised me.

There were a few times when the story kind of skipped from one scene to the next with no transition, which was confusing.

My biggest complaint was the number of spelling and grammatical errors in this book. Please, please, please proofread. Better yet, hire a proofreader! I’m not trying to be rude, but the errors made me not interested in reading the next book in the series. There were instances of using to instead of too, or your instead of you’re, and even no instead of know.

But, it was, generally, an enjoyable read.

A good cozy mystery

This is a very good and exciting murder mystery. I enjoyed it very much. It was a page turner. There was only one place that I thought was kinda stupid. When Marty and Zach were locked in the shed and someone set the shed on fire. The sheriff blamed them. I thought that was very stupid. All in all, it was a very good cozy mystery. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good cozy mystery.

Didn't expect the main character not to find love and love deeply madly and wildly into relationship with the man .

This was a super fast read although it was more than 600 pages. Not my favorite book. I kept reading it because there was no way to tell who committed the crime. There are more books in the series, but I doubt I will ready another one. The characters were shallow and the writing was too simple for me. I like books with more wit.

Great read!!!

Who killed Wart? You can't help but laugh throughout this book. So glad I found this author. The characters are many making it harder to figure out who killed the victim. I absolutely loved it and definitely recommend this series. I can't wait to read the rest myself.

Great!

I had a wonderful time reading this very humorous book. Poor Marcie, if it weren't for bad luck she'd have no luck at all! I enjoyed her little quips to her childhood nemesis, Giselle. If you're looking for a fun read with a touch of romance, mystery, murder, confusion, and a trio of related females that sound just like your mom and sisters, read this.

Pure fun!

I loved everything about this book except that it was written in first person and Tim. I would have liked him to be a like more "How can she not love this guy?!" I will be reading books two and three anyway to find out if Tim develops along the way.

Good

This is a good, fun book to read, if you can get past the editing errors, which I did. The story didn't flow as well as it could have and the main character still has some growing up to do, but it is an ok way to spend the afternoon.

Exactly as advertised

Nice, well developed cozy mystery with easy humor, quirky characters, and a resolution I should have seen coming, but didn't. Adding this author to my to-be-read list.
