"Speaking in tongues stops all fear; it emboldens you and builds up your inner man so strong that you'll have the dominion over all your adversaries." (Chris Oyakhilome, The Power of Tongues, Page 15)
The author shares in this book the benefits of power you receive when you use this gift. One Scripture in the Bible concerning this gift is in 1 Corinthians 14:4a:
The author says that the Greek word translated "edifies" is "oikodomeo." This means that this word means to construct or build up. However, he also says that it means to embolden or charge up. This was a great insight to me personally. He says, "This Scripture is therefore telling us that the one who speaks in an unknown tongue builds himself up like an edifice; he emboldens himself and charges himself like a battery."
He explains the many benefits of speaking in tongues, for example, it will eliminate fear and timidity. He counsels that if you ever have fear or timidity about something, that is the time to speak in tongues, and it will put a stop to all fear.
There were so many other benefits that are shared in this book about speaking in tongues that I cannot go into detail here, but if you want a crash course on speaking in tongues, then I heartily recommend this book!

In this short book the author cuts through the subject centering on 1 Corinthians 14. The 5 Chapters leave you with an understanding that speaking in tongues is not an option for Christians. If you want to live a victorious life as a Christian speaking in tongues is a must otherwise what you will have is just "empty religion". The author shows that speaking in tongues is a language of the recreated man (Chapter 1). All that is required for you to be able to speak in tongues is to receive salvation through Jesus Christ. There is a prayer in the book to receive the Holy Spirit and the speaking of tongues (Acts 2:14) on Page 13.
The author explains why Christians should speak in other tongues and shares prophecies of this New Testament experience (Chapter 3) as found in the book of Isaiah. The author shows that shows that both speaking in other tongues and prophesying edifies but the difference is the audience. Prophecy is speaking in tongues plus interpretation. Should you desire to interpret tongues the author shows one can pray to receive interpretation of the tongues. The author also explains 1 Corinthians 14: 15 and notes many Christians have the order in reverse. Speaking in tongues should be the greater part of one's prayer then with the understanding because its on the "also" part.
A wonderfully laid book on the subject with scripture references and very practical guidelines. There are some testimonies of individuals who changed their lives when they started to speak in tongues. These testimonies will surely inspire you to speak in tongues more as they have inspired me. Would have loved to see more proofs to some of the statements that were given there.
