Journey through generations of adventure and romance as three Marcia Lynn McClure favorites blend perfectly in The McCall Trilogy! The roundup begins with The Foundling (formerly released as Desert Fire). She opened her eyes and beheld, for the first time, the face of Jackson McCall… Posse up with the next generation of McCall heroes in To Echo the Past. Stripped of her heart’s hopes and dreams, she knew true loneliness—until an ordinary day revealed a heavenly oasis in the desert—Michael McCall… And finally, ride away to dreams come true with a modern-day McCall heroine in An Old-Fashioned Romance. Life went along simply, if not rather monotonously, for Breck McCall. She longed for something—something that seemed to be missing… The McCall Trilogy …a romantic escape into cowboys, courtship, and kissing the way only Marcia Lynn McClure can deliver!
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ice in wonder at the small fish, snakes and mice sealed in the meadow grasses beneath; stories of hardship and tragedy, love and loss. But always the stories, and the people telling them, bore evidence of the wonder and worthiness of simpler, yet sometimes brutal, times.
These influential people and the family legends they detailed, coupled with her own life experiences and utterly romantic nature, led Marcia to begin writing novels as Christmas gifts for her closest friends…friends who long for a breath of the past and miss the romance of bygone eras; friends searching for moments of distraction from the stressful, demanding times we live in.
And so, knowing that it is the breath of the past and the "take me in you arms and kiss me" kind of moments that so many women long to relive, Marcia spins her tales of love, life and laughter…adventures woven around those compelling, romantic instances that most appeal to a woman's loving heart. Marcia feels that if her readers close one of her books with a contented sigh and a delighted smile, feeling rejuvenated, cheerful and edified, then she has achieved what she set out to do…shower refreshment and happiness on anyone having experienced the story.
Marcia lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. There she writes her stories surrounded by her beloved friends and family...and the beautiful desert landscape of New Mexico!
ctI love the cover for this collection and I love that we get all three McCall books in one place.
Desert Fire (Western Historical) This is one of my favorite McClure books. I love the storyline and characters. I'm always drawn to stories of amnesia, I think they're fun and offer a lot of possibilities. This is a great western and one I'd highly recommend.
To Echo the Past (Western Historical) This was a sweet, conflict free romance. McClure has a knack for writing westerns and creating a welcoming environment. A fun way to escape into the past.
An Old-Fashioned Romance (Holiday Contemporary Romance) This was a fun one! Not only does it have ties to the previous two books, but we get to see the beginnings of the Highwayman of Tanglewood (another favorite McClure book). The romance was lighthearted and fun.
Overall, a great trilogy and one I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys a little swoon in their romance.
Content: Clean with lots of McClures trademark kissing!
DNF. I made it through the first one and 80% of the second. The first book was all right. There was a lot of times when the H’s shirt was off for no reason which was weird. Also it seems like the whole book was one over the top situation after another.
The second book was just ridiculous. It felt like the author really liked McCall #1 so she made all of his sons and grandsons look just like him so that every female character can have a McCall of her own. The H was so handsome and the h was so beautiful and they fall instantly in love but then the middle part felt like a perpetuation of rape culture. Boy wants a kiss, girl says no, boys says "hey I wont let you go until you give me a kiss", girl says no, boys like "your mom is coming I wont release you until you kiss me," girl gives in and kisses him and of course it is all okay because he's hot and we know that she really wants to kiss him (of course if he was not hot it would have been creepy). I just couldn't handle the kissing and slow pace anymore so I quit reading it.
This was soooo good! I enjoyed reading each story. The beginning really hooks you in and you have no idea what’ll happen next. I kept trying to make guesses as to what each story was about, but I kept being thrown off and ended up being wrong. I also almost passed away when the third story mentioned the highwayman of tanglewood. That book is beautiful and the way it was added into the story made me blush just as much as Breck had!
I love Marcia's books. Romance books set in the 'Ole West are so fun to read. Ah! It was so romantic!! I read the first 2 books because I'd already read book 3. If you like old fashioned books where the man is handsome and protects the woman he loves, and the woman is sweet but spunky then you'll love these books. These are perfect to read during the month of love. :)
This is a compilation of three previously published books in one, so I want to deal with each book in turn.
Book 1--3 stars. One thing I like about McClure's writing is the pace. She keeps things fresh (and admittedly fluffy) by moving the story right along. Although I am not acquainted with medical details of amnesia, the whole amnesia thing strained credibility--well, not that she had it but how things came back to her.
Book 2--2.5. This was difficult to read right after book 1 because it was so similar. So very similar. And if it could even be possible, lighter weight.
Each story by itself was cute, but having just read a couple other books by Marcia, it started to feel like I was reading much of the same dialogue. I definitely appreciate the fact she keeps her books clean. It just goes to show, you don't have to have an explicit sex scene or even have the hero/heroine sleeping together at all to have a romantic novel where you feel the attraction between them. For that, I would give 4 stars, but for the feel of redundancy, it's only a 3 star in my book.
I loved this book. Each story was fun in their own way. I loved all the characters and how unique each story was. Of course I loved all the kisding. I do have to say that Old Fashion Romance is probably my favorite out of the three. I loved loved loved the part with the Highway Man of Tanglewood :) Great book makes you sigh and smile at the end
Three novels in one! The Foundling (Desert Fire), To Echo the Past, An Old-Fashioned Romance - all very good reading. The first begins in the early 1800's in Colorado - and the McCall ranch. The 2nd book goes into the next generation - and the last is in current time. I enjoyed all of them.
I loved that these three books were combined! I have loved all her books that I've read but was very impressed with the modern day setting in the third book. I'm a fan of the cowboy/prairie life books but thoroughly enjoyed the modern day setting.
Entirely pleasant MLM experience. My favorite in this trio is *The Foundling* but I liked the other two as well. They're sweet and romantic stories, with great Heroes, and strong heroines. And, the smooching is pretty great, too!
