Simple willpower isn’t enough when you’re struggling against anger, anxiety, addictions, sexual temptations, and other common problems. Bert Ghezzi, author of this engaging and practical guide, insists that the power of the Holy Spirit — and only that power — is strong enough to overcome these deeply rooted and disheartening difficulties. Best of all, he shows how you can tap into the Spirit’s power now.
Ghezzi, the author of many popular Catholic books (including Voices of the Saints), helps you see exactly what you’re up against in dealing with these problems. He details how you can and must be vigilant against temptations, and points the way for you to experience real freedom from evil influences.
His advice, which is firmly rooted in the wisdom of the saints, helps you gain the Spirit’s power both in your individual spiritual life and in your relationships. You’ll learn how to trust Jesus more and to control your thoughts — as well as how to let go of grudges and how to place your dealings with others on a firm Christian footing.
Ghezzi’s forthright, Holy Spirit-centered approach gives you trustworthy, tested ways to gain the freedom that only God can give.

I picked up this book because I am studying counseling and psychology and often like to know what Christian or Catholic based self-help information is out there. I thought this book would be a decent read as the description of the books states that "he (the author) shows how you can tap into the Spirit's power now." I expected a step by step guide on how to approach overcoming personal problems. Instead I found the book to be way too general. I won't give each of the steps away for those that still want to read the book, but I will give one specific example. One of the steps in Mr. Ghezzi's book is "We must put aside all resentment, bitterness and grudges." He goes on to explain why grudges, etc. are bad for us. While I agree that this is a good step to take in searching out how to correct a personal problem, I expected the author to tell the reader how to do the putting aside! If a person struggles with anger issues, they are obviously having trouble letting go. Tell me how to let it go! Giving up a personal struggle to God is important to a person of faith and I agree that it does help. However, as someone who struggles sometimes on his personal faith journey how do I give a problem up to God and "expect" him to fix it? Do I stand on my rooftop and yell that I expect God to fix my issues? Do I drop it in the offer plate during church? Now I know I am being a bit silly, but the book doesn't even offer solid examples of how. Mr. Ghezzi gives examples of how a person's life changed after they decided to take some of his steps, but not how they actually took the steps. I did not find this book to be of any real value to anyone that is struggling with a personal issue, nor could I recommend it to anyone that was looking for a self-help book.
Everyone needs to read and understand this in their lives. What a wonderful world we could live in if everyone would learn and focus on God and treat others as they should.
