Some people could cook; some could cook well; Chef Nevena Nolan could flat out burn. While she’d graduated from one of the top culinary schools in the world, her grandmomma had taught her how to cook; school had taught her how to play the game.
She minded her own business, stayed out of shit, and kept her opinions to herself as she worked her way up through the French brigade system. Her station was spotless, her dishes had the southern grandmomma seal of approval. She never mixed business with pleasure. Of course, she’d never been tempted to…until she bumped into an Italian chef who knew his chocolate, his wine and his way to a woman’s heart.
On a sabbatical from his executive chef position in one of Europe’s finest restaurants, he gave her plus size curves a second, third, fourth and fifth glance, gave her taste buds an adventure, and gave her hope that women like her could get HEAs. After he’d gotten what he wanted, he left her with a broken heart, a ruined reputation and a baby.
Down, but not out, Nevena kept her head up, took her apprentice chef, and kept it moving. When she’d healed enough on the inside, she and her best friend bum-rushed their way into one of Atlanta’s hottest restaurants and won over its owner.
Winning over the crowd of regulars who all seemed to have “aire” describing their net worth, they called her on her shit but they treated her like she was family. Knowing she had to spread her wings, they sent samples of her food to the owners of an upscale resort in Alaska.
Once in Alaska, she discovered another group of people who considered her family, her complete ignorance about wildlife, and a man who made her heart beat in triple time. She knew she could love him. Her daughter did love him and her best friend encouraged her to jump on him and ride him into another Ice Age.
Sheriff Dominic Kenai was an Alaskan grizzly shifter. He was also the law in Arcticus, Alaska. If you didn’t count what he did to people who fucked with his territory, there was zero point zero crime. Despite the new resort going up and the increasing number of tourists coming in, he was determined to keep that record intact.
An alpha male with simple tastes, all he wanted was good coffee, peace and quiet, and a willing woman every now and then. And then he met Nevena and his bear went crazy. Determined to win her over, he took his time so that she could heal. He’d show her that he wasn’t like other men; he was better. He had the whole territory in his corner, along with Nevena’s daughter, her best friend and her brother. Now all he had to do was prove to her that loving him wasn’t a mistake.
Two pens...one-of-a-kind adventures...zero apologies.
A kickazz tag-team bound together by the pen, Jeanie (the shagalicious wordslinger) and Jayha (the literary badazz) are forces of nature that will either leave you begging for mercy or begging for more.
We are women who have brains we aren't afraid to use; feelings we aren't afraid to express; and, middle fingers that we aren’t afraid to extend. We pen stories that push all kinds of boundaries and we don’t apologize for it. Our heroines are feisty; our heroes are hot, and our stories are one-of-a-kind adventures. (Source: Amazon.com)
I will tell you the first thing that attracted me to this book was home girl's Afro. I was said to myself, now that's an Afro and on the strength alone I downloaded the book. Luckily this wasn't my first read by authors Jeanie Johnson and Jayha Leigh. I read a previous book by them called "Oh, How the Mighty are Ballin' (Mid NFW Mayhem Book 1)" which is fantastic too.
Nevena Nolan was more than just a cook, she was a burner, a chef on her way to shattering ceilings. People knew her loved her, loved her food, her personality and her sassiness. She was doing the damn thing in an Atlanta restaurant where people came from all over to taste her food. Nevena also fell hard for the Italian chef named Gervasius who from all intents and purposes appeared to be a real gentleman but he wasn't. He was the devil in disguise and Nevena found out too late when she interrupted a disrespectful session of him and his friends talking about her. Nevena not one to back down beat the sh*t out of two of the guys while the others ran off (now your talking about my kind of home girl Woot! Woot). But it came with consequences, meaning she was literally blackballed and so her and her home boy Lennon did odd jobs and other things to pay the rent, have food on the table. A break needed to come and quickly because Nevena was pregnant so she did the only thing she thought to do, she got her best friend DJ and Lennon to help her kidnap Chef Ranek Thracius owner of Atlanta's Obsession restaurant. The plan was to kidnap him and when he comes around she will have food that she prepared waiting for him to taste, in hopes he will hire her. Now you want to talk about funny as the dickens, I was hollering. Needless to say all went well and she was hired for the chef's position.
Chef Ranek Thracius new of an upscale resort in Arcticus Alaska, that they believed Nevena was perfect for. Her adopted family back in Atlanta was Chef Ranek and everyone else, she was starting anew in Arcticus, Alaska with Chef Jaden lus-Brynjar at the Brynjar resorts. Her adorable daughter Kalei was spoiled beyond measure and everyone doted on her, so Nevena was never with out a baby sitter and Kalei was never without love.
Enter Sheriff Dominic Horatio Kenai and all seven feet of him too, came into town to buy coffee and instantly spotted his mate Nevena and his little cub Kalei. Although Kalei wasn't his, don't tell him that you would be the unlucky one to not walk away with your life *snickering* So the giant Bear shifter took to pursuing his mate Nevena like his life depended on it. Dominic wouldn't take no for an from her and said he will wear her down with his charm and gentleness and that is what he did. But his family wants a wedding and pronto and more cubs, which they have happily adopted Kalei as their granddaughter. They have come together to make things happen because for once in Sheriff Dominic's life he has found joy unspeakable and he wants his family. Nevena looks as if she may not have a say in anything of this *giggling* especially since her daughter has staked a permanent claim in the Sheriff's heart.
This is a great story, with laughter, love and also want to make you beat the brakes off of a mofo (hey I'm just saying). I will be reading more books by these wonderful ladies and have happily added them to my favorite authors list.
This was a good attempt. The premise for this novella was wonderful. But once I actually started reading, the plot was hard to follow and unclear. What saved this for me was Nevena's cutie pie little cub Kalei. The love between Kalei and Dom was sooooo sweet! ;-) They definitely saved this from being a 2 stars rating!
Very good story. My one complaint is that Dom's mom did not get to put the smack down on Chef Adamo. I was looking forward to him getting his ass kicked. Kalei was my absolute favorite.
I was thoroughly enjoying this book. I grew attached to the characters and their lives. I was so lost in this story then…BAM! No more story; just an epilogue that didn’t concern the main characters. WTH. There must be a virus going around making authors unable to adequately conclude a story. Seriously!
I enjoyed this story and the characters were very entertaining. Loved the chemistry between Dom and Nevenna it was smoking hot 🔥! The story had a lot of dropped spots where you left up in the air about spot. I say read it for yourself and you decide if you like it.
I am beginning to really really love genie and Jaya they are writing is funny Informational And just down right good I will enjoy reading the next book in the series
The book started out okay able to follow it until the part the cook started fighting co-workers to defend her honor. From there I was totally lost. It was too much going on and the book skipped around way to much. The sheriff's family just pops in the book and they want to big a princess room for her daughter. How old is her daughter when she moves to Alaska. The book leaves to many questions, reactions from the characters weren’t realistic. Once the sheriff shifts she just rubs him and the next minute they are sitting on the couch. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
