I bought this book when it was first published, and that book stayed on my coffee table for 2 decades. Gruber's black-and-white photography of cats who "work" or live in a wide variety of establishments is a delight. The quotes that accompany each cat are so purrfect....excuse me, perfect - for the photo. Some of the quotes are from owners of the company, some from people who work there, and some are Gruber's descriptions. You'll find the highest and mightiest cats, as well as homeless cats in this book.
Positively charming, excellent photos, poignant blurbs; perfect coffee table book. Fun to read aloud.
From Stray, to Opera Wig cat, to horse's best friend and anonymous minions within the lives of Steel Mill workers -- there's a lot of little corners these felines have managed to tuck themselves into within human daily life. Some look fabulous, others keep pests at bay, but all add an element of charm & surprise whose "value" can't be ignored.
This is one of the most important cat books I have had the pleasure of experiencing. The pictures are great and the stories about the cats are great. I can't wait to read the companion books, one of which looks like a high school yearbook featuring cats. A+++
