JESUS MARTIN-BARBERO was the author, not Schlesinger (who wrote an introduction to the English translation). It was published in 1987 as De los medios a las medicines: Comunicación, cultura y hegemonía, by Editorial Gustavo Gili.

I only wish I had read this in 1992, when I began my study of newspapers. Powerful analysis of Latin American mass media, even now in the post-Communist hyper-mediatized 21st century.
