Dr. Jebediah Stone had never believed in zombies until he had to shoot one. A very few Alpha zombies rule smaller hunting packs with the surviving humans as prey. Now, they re mutating into a new species, mortuus venator dead hunters, capable of reproducing. Jeb Stone searches for his missing wife, taken by the military because she is immune. She and other captured munies supply the blue juice, a temporary vaccine, from their blood. It is a new, dangerous world he finds himself, filled with zoms, the military and their Judgment Day Protocol, merciless Hunters who capture munies for a shot of blue juice, street gangs and famine. Has the world turned on mankind? Is Mortuus Venator the new ruler of earth?
An interesting yet familiar take on the zombie tale. The prose is compulsively readable and even with the inevitable lull in the second act, still worth reading.
This was way more fun than I expected from a book I found trough some other book but was completely unknown to me.
Jeb was an interesting character but I liked Erin a lot more and thought the angle of the scientists was nice and I hope we see more of her and them in the next book.
This is the first in the Judgement day series. I got it free on my kindle off amazon a while back and picked it randomly to read, not even remembering what it was about (the subtitle wasn't showing then!). Zombies are so popular nowadays, there are so many shows, books and movies. This one isn't something all that original, but it was still entertaining. The very end sets things up for a series and I kind of feel like hmm I wonder what will happen next? but I also feel like I probably won't end up reading the following books to find out, with everything else I could read. If you love zombie books, check this one out!
Judgment Day by HE Gurley started out slowly but quickly became more interesting as the story unfolded. I liked the way the military became a villain by using the people who they were supposed to be protecting. I will be getting the next volume to see what happens next.
Everything I wanted in a Zombie book. Characters were interesting and kept me reading in one sitting. Can't wait to read more from this author. Move this one to the top of your "to read" list.
