I'm so done with this serie. The first thing that bothered me was the repeating cycle of violence and gore. I don't have a problem with any of those things. It's the repetition of the plot that annoyed me.
But you know what annoyed me more? Yuno. Everyone seems to like her and her psychotic personality. I love me a good psychopath in my stories. But Yuno just comes as a total pushover. Again, I know this is part of her personality and because she's TOTALLY in love with Yuki, but everything about her and her actions irritates me. I was especially pissed of when
I don't know. I will not continue this manga. But if I ever have some extra time to waste, I'll watch the anime to see what happens in the end.

This is a review of the entire series!
I debated between giving this 2 or 3 stars, and would lean more toward 2.5. There were a couple of things I really liked about it, but many more things I really didn't like about it.
High schooler Yukiteru Amano is a socially awkward loner who considers himself a bystander. He'd rather mind his own business instead of getting involved with other people, writing every mundane activity of his life in a cellphone diary. Secretly tormented by his solitude, he invents an imagery friend called Deus Ex Machina who claims to be the Lord of Time & Space. Taking pity on the lonesome Yuki, Deus grants his diary the ability to record future events. After learning that 11 other people with unique future diaries show up around Japan, Yuki learns that Deus is not a product of his imagination, and he has been selected to take part in a death game that involves fighting to become the next ruler of causality by outsmarting each other with their new prophetic devices. Luckily for Yuki, one of the death game's participants is his fellow classmate Yuno Gasai, the prettiest girl in his school who happens to love him so much that she would put her life on the line to protect him.
Speaking of Yuno, she's where most of the fun comes from. She's a severely unstable, possessive sociopath that will happily slaughter anyone and anything that get in the way of her selfish romantic fantasies. She's famous for inventing the infamous yandere trope (psycho/killer/stalker love interest) While she can technically be seen as the villain of the series and it's hard to fully sympathize with her because of how violent, impulsive and controlling she is, all of the other characters are so unlikable and bland that I often found myself rooting for her to just rip everyone else in the story to shreds.
Yuki is the main character, but he's such a whiny and idiotic pushover that I couldn't connect with the unhealthy relationship brewing between him and Yuno. I understand it's supposed to be a psychological thriller, but the story seemed to romanticize their relationship rather than portraying it for what it really was: predatory, abusive and horribly toxic. I would've rather had Yuno as the main protagonist and explore her tragic and demented backstory through much more intriguing characters to bounce off of rather than through a relationship with one of the lamest dudes in manga history.
The plot jumps around way too fast. None of the competitors have interesting personalities or motives so I didn't really feel any stakes or tension in the action. The only side character I somewhat liked is (funnily enough) another batshit crazy girl who plays the role of a cosplaying terrorist named Uryuu Minene. The dialogue could get really bad as the characters never reacted to death, betrayal or horrifying situations realistically. There's a point where a character discovers three dead bodies in his girlfriend's house, runs away in fear, then casually remains her partner for the rest of the series like nothing ever happened. There are many more scenes exactly like this where characters don't react and process things in remotely realistic or believable ways.
Some of the twists in the later parts of the series involving time and causality were admittedly cool, but they're introduced in a rushed and convoluted way which makes it feel messy overall. The action was good, there were a few emotional moments and the absolute chaotic nature of Yuno and Uryuu were exciting to watch unfold, but everything else about the characters, story and conflict of the narrative fall apart at the seams.

Really good story line and a great concept. Another one that's a lot better than the hunger games. Good characters. Lots of horror, romance and plot twists. Some violence.

This volume is the weakest one so far. It has a bit of Home Alone vibe to it (if you add stabbing and poisoning to the mix), but is far less enjoyable than the previous volumes. One more diary holder falls, but it just isn't as spectacular when two relatively mature characters are pushed around by a bloodthirsty 6-year-old.

Honestly, at this point, I want to know why Yukki is the protagonist. He just lets Yuno do the dirty work and guess what? The psychopath that she is, she's still more suited to the game than Yukki can ever be.
She broke into his house to meet his mother. I totally hate the 'airhead' mother trope where the mother acts more like a teenager than a grown up adult. Then she goes on to let Yuno sleep in the same room as her son. The whole thing irritated me.
Kei-kun is a kid. He's not even 5. That choice of a villain didn't sit well with me, especially since his diary wasn't a potential threat. After the clairvoyant diary, the picture book with 3 opportunities a day- Idk how to feel about that.
How are they even alive? Kei-kun even used poisonous gas but to no avail. Apparently love is stronger than potassium cyanide, mixed with acid. Okay. Yuno got an electric shock and survived. Are they superheroes from the planet of Deus? Then a blank slide and BAM. Kei-kun is stabbed. How can he be eliminated so quickly? The kid was smarter than the two combined. It happened wayyyyyy too fast, in my opinion.
Still, the kid had some wicked ideas and I did appreciate it. That's why I gave this 2 stars ._.

I'm very torn on Yuno as a character.
There was one particularly unbelievable and ridiculous scene like this not far into this volume that got it started out on such a poor foot that I was wondering if I'd end up giving the volume 2 stars. The rest of the volume bumped it up for me, but was not as good as the previous volume.

Estoy indeciso entre 3 y 4, pero le pongo 3 porque el arte no es muy bueno.
Este tomo es un poco mejor que los anteriores, Reisuke es un personaje divertido y su diario es bastante diferente a los otros, asi que lo hace un personaje distinto. Si bien es un manga y hay muchos elementos de ficción me resultaron poco creíbles algunos de sus "planes", lo que arruina un poco la experiencia.
Los momentos del principio cuando Yuno conocer a la madre de Yukiteru fueron muy graciosos, espero que hayan más de esos.

Yuno is crazier by every volume and Yukiteru is finding more courage or desperation in himself to act in tough situations.
Rei was super annoying and totally unrealistic four-year-old but I guess that's fine in a series like this, haha.
Minene turned much more interesting character after her bomb show in the beginning, now she seems more calculating and her tie to the police Kurusu gives extra twist to game.

Even if the overall plot doesn't make complete sense, I'm enjoying the tense romantic relationship which is slowly developing between Yuno and Yuki in this supernatural mystery manga. Yuno is finally starting to understand the obvious problem: the rules of the game will force her to kill Yuki eventually. Wait, didn't we do this plot in *The Hunger Games?*

The plot is better than the second book.. the fight scenes were cool and the art was nice.
But it is ruined by being overly sexual. It found a way to make the female characters naked every 5 pages. The characters are in JUNIOR HIGH and for some reason sex is brought up constantly.

Die ersten beiden Bände waren deutlich besser. Band 03 war sehr seltsam, leider nicht im positiven Sinne. Die "neuen" Charaktere waren fragwürdig.

In the last chapter of Tsubaki's arc, Sakae lands right between exploitation and exploration. He's closer to the latter, but the flashbacks are different than the anime. Since he doesn't control the pace, he can't make the camera not-linger on Tsubaki's naked body. The panels showing her flashbacks show the naked body in all glory. They never show too much. The chapter doesn't waste too many panels showing us rape is painful - implying it and showing it using Tsubaki's personality is better.
Still, the onslaught of sexual violence can reek of tokenism. At least Sakae refrains from using it to make Tsubaki a senseless sadist. Her worldview and personality aren't connected to just that, but the bad eyesight and her position in the cult. It's like most of the characters in the series - they're multi-dimensional but Sakae isn't very good at showing off these dimensions.
Same thing happens with the new character (who appears and dies). It's impressive that this is the third character with a mean streak that feels different than everyone else. A common problem with stories that present a dangerous world is that the world ends up monochrome. Everyone is cruel in the same way.
Sakae gives them small differences that change the meaning of their cruelty. Tsubaki was a tragic character, a person who got the short end of the stick and can't feel anything but hatred for the world. Reisuke is different. He's got an odd system of morality. He was neglected, and that makes him cold. He will also protect those who love him.
It's such a revealing moment. Moments like these are when Sakae refuses to paint the rest of the diary holders as maniacs, with only our heroes the righteous one. Since this is a survival game, it makes perfect sense for them to hunt our heroes down. Sakae never paints them as less than reasonable.
Reisuke is, while amusing, not as insightful as Yomotsu or Tsubaki. The volume falls into the same problem the others did. It refuses to slow down. It launches into the action without building the characters enough.
The action is of high-quality, at least. He's never short on bizarre ideas and set-pieces. The action is dominated by visual ideas and personalities. At least this gives them some weight. It never feels like the fast-paced action is an attempt to cover up a lack of characters. It's the pacing that is not good enough.
Contrasting tones are part of what made the anime so good, and here this technique is developed. If the second volume threatened to be too gloomy, this one is more lighthearted. Even when it gets into the action, it's presented in a lighthearted and darkly-comic way (to emphasize how a little kid would view all this violence).
The lighthearted moments in the beginning never feel like they exist only to be contrasted to. They can stand on their own. Yuno remains an entertaining character. We get many moments where she subverts the Clinging Woman archetype. While Yuno needs Yukki for her psychological stability, what's important to her is her stability and less Yukki's feeling. She does what she wants to make things good for herself. She's less of a tool that helps fix Yukki's problem and more of a character who goes for what she desires.
Some have pointed to Reisuke's supply of poisons as examples of how unrealistic this story is. Well, it's a story about diaries that predict the future and includes a gas-masked serial killer, a blind dude who thinks he's a superhero and a yandere. It's overblown and fantastical. It's not meant to be realistic.

I'm just loving this manga. This is yet another great volume. I'm so eager to learn all the secrets of this series. It's funny that I'm so obsessed with this. It really isn't girly at all, which is what I usually love. It really hooks the reader though. There so much suspense and plenty of twists. This one even had a little romance. And the art is just great. I can't praise it enough.
In this volume, the plot stays the way it's been. A diary holder is defeated, a new one shows up. However, Fourth and Ninth are still our there and I have to wonder what they're up to. It looks like Fourth kind of tricks Ninth into helping Yuki and Yuno. Yuki saves Yuno on more than one occasion (it's nice to see the roles change between them). I imagine this will only spark deeper obsession in Yuno. I have yet to find out the secrets she's hiding. I have a suspicion is has to do with her parents. Meanwhile, Yuki is totally freaked out by her, but somehow still attracted to her. I don't think he even understands how he feels. The creepy kid in this one doesn't last long, but there should be four diary holders left that haven't been introduced yet. I'm eager to see where things will go.
Also, if I could take a moment to geek out. I was searching for a larger size picture of the cover for this review, and during all my googling I found a trailer. I proceeded to have a fit of glee. They're going to make an anime of this series. So excited! It looks so good!

After our favorite psychotic and deceitful trio's fiasco with Sixth, AKA Tsubaki, Yuno stays at Yukiteru's house when she finds out through her diary that his mother will be returning home for a short while from her work. Only, Yukiteru's mother brings back a kid with her! The kid is the child of one of the casualties at Tsubaki's temple, and it appears that he is the Fifth diary holder! How are Yuno and Yukiteru ever going to defeat this little villain when they can't even find his diary?!
I already kind of miss little Rei. I didn't like him all through the book but now that he's gone I kind of want him back. Buuutttt, I wouldn't like it if he did come back. LOL. And I can't really tell how closer this brought Yuno and Yukiteru. Pretty close, I guess. No.. Definitely very much closer. But that ending was iffy for their relationship... Yes... Indeed...

En gros, un manga à l'aspect psychologique si développé (si tordu aussi!) qu'on se demande qui est l'auteur dans la "vraie" vie, un battle royale qui mélange action, suspens et addictivité, une histoire d'amour qui sort des sentiers battus. Bref, un manga qui aurait mérité un point de plus si je n'avais pas été un peu perplexe devant les 2 derniers tomes, mais que je recommande tout de même pour son côté "décalé". Je ne l'oublierais pas de sitôt !
