This is a review of the entire series!

I debated between giving this 2 or 3 stars, and would lean more toward 2.5. There were a couple of things I really liked about it, but many more things I really didn't like about it.

High schooler Yukiteru Amano is a socially awkward loner who considers himself a bystander. He'd rather mind his own business instead of getting involved with other people, writing every mundane activity of his life in a cellphone diary. Secretly tormented by his solitude, he invents an imagery friend called Deus Ex Machina who claims to be the Lord of Time & Space. Taking pity on the lonesome Yuki, Deus grants his diary the ability to record future events. After learning that 11 other people with unique future diaries show up around Japan, Yuki learns that Deus is not a product of his imagination, and he has been selected to take part in a death game that involves fighting to become the next ruler of causality by outsmarting each other with their new prophetic devices. Luckily for Yuki, one of the death game's participants is his fellow classmate Yuno Gasai, the prettiest girl in his school who happens to love him so much that she would put her life on the line to protect him.

Speaking of Yuno, she's where most of the fun comes from. She's a severely unstable, possessive sociopath that will happily slaughter anyone and anything that get in the way of her selfish romantic fantasies. She's famous for inventing the infamous yandere trope (psycho/killer/stalker love interest) While she can technically be seen as the villain of the series and it's hard to fully sympathize with her because of how violent, impulsive and controlling she is, all of the other characters are so unlikable and bland that I often found myself rooting for her to just rip everyone else in the story to shreds.

Yuki is the main character, but he's such a whiny and idiotic pushover that I couldn't connect with the unhealthy relationship brewing between him and Yuno. I understand it's supposed to be a psychological thriller, but the story seemed to romanticize their relationship rather than portraying it for what it really was: predatory, abusive and horribly toxic. I would've rather had Yuno as the main protagonist and explore her tragic and demented backstory through much more intriguing characters to bounce off of rather than through a relationship with one of the lamest dudes in manga history.

The plot jumps around way too fast. None of the competitors have interesting personalities or motives so I didn't really feel any stakes or tension in the action. The only side character I somewhat liked is (funnily enough) another batshit crazy girl who plays the role of a cosplaying terrorist named Uryuu Minene. The dialogue could get really bad as the characters never reacted to death, betrayal or horrifying situations realistically. There's a point where a character discovers three dead bodies in his girlfriend's house, runs away in fear, then casually remains her partner for the rest of the series like nothing ever happened. There are many more scenes exactly like this where characters don't react and process things in remotely realistic or believable ways.

Some of the twists in the later parts of the series involving time and causality were admittedly cool, but they're introduced in a rushed and convoluted way which makes it feel messy overall. The action was good, there were a few emotional moments and the absolute chaotic nature of Yuno and Uryuu were exciting to watch unfold, but everything else about the characters, story and conflict of the narrative fall apart at the seams.

The volume starts with some mushy lovey-dovey moments, but soon jumps back into the action with hallucinations, beheadings, bombings, betrayal. It's certainly still fun and ends in a cliffhanger. Seems I have to read on.

Yuki, Yuno and Keigo want to find the rest of the 12 dialy holders. In the meantime Yuki and Yuno spend some time together. It goes well until Yuki visits her house where he sees something unexpected that makes him not trust her any more. This volume adds more diary holders to the mix and some death notices too.

Vracet se k Mirai Nikki je dost hořkosladké, ale jsou prázdniny, takže... why not? Anime miluju a manga na mě čekala už dost dlouho. Minene miluju, ale tu Tsubaki by si mohli odpustit. A samozřejmě Power Rangers...

4/5*

I am kinda lost with this story. I like the idea and the story (mostly), but like I said I am really lost. The art is also not my thing.

After deciding the first one was pretty cool, I picked up volume two. It completely surpassed the first volume. There was so much action and the story progression is keeping such a great pace. I went to the library immediately to get the next two.

Yuki and Yuno are just beginning to get to know each other better, and Yuki is warming up to her. Yuno really has a thing for Yuki and he doesn't understand why. Their relationship is just beginning to take a step in the right direction when Yuki makes a horrifying discovery. There's something dark that we don't know about Yuno and I can't wait to figure out exactly what it is.

This volume has some pretty big plot twists. There's really no telling who is on what side. When the servants at the temple fall into a trance and begin killing, they need to find out who is behind it. Yuno and Kurusu seem like the only ones with their heads on straight in a crisis.

I'm really loving this series. On to volume three!

Fanslation quality is unfortunately all over so some pages are big misses that don’t make much sense, but the story itself is clear. I want to credit the anime for making Yuno the star she is because her crashout moments are not nearly as impactful in the manga. She’s still good! Just think the anime did it better so far.

Although Yuki wants to run from Yuno, it’s becoming clearer and clearer he can’t. Yuno’s diary is the only thing keeping him above dirt and the more he and Yuno prove to be a powerful duo, the bigger the target is painted on their backs. At every turn he realizes Yuno is the only one he can trust, but even that comes with reluctance after seeing the horrors at her house. Oh, what a tangled web we weave.

Action is even more fun in this second entry because a cute girl in pigtails is wildly swinging a hatchet. Cmon bro, it doesn’t get better. The new Diary Holders are solid characters too, with unique abilities and off-the-wall personalities. I really like 12 and his stupid “I am justice!” schtick. The music, the theatrics, the animosity for all things crooked - even garbage that didn’t make the basket - makes him a treat to watch.

Kahdennestatoista tuli heti yksi lempihahmoistani.

Even if the overall plot doesn't make complete sense, I'm enjoying the tense romantic relationship which is slowly developing between Yuno and Yuki in this supernatural mystery manga.

Los personajes siguen sin tener un trasfondo en este tomo. Sin embargo deja con la intriga de qué va a pasar. Ademas Yuno, como su fama la precede, dá vida a la historia.

Slowly more and more the weaknesses of the series start to show.

These diary entries possibly couldn't come like that from the future.
These people would have no chance to report back to Tsubaki.

I wonder what happend to Yuno Gasai in the past such that she became one of the most infamous psychos known in manga history.
