The horror of "The Ring" "Spiral" is back! You can experience this new horror novel while you are on the toilet!

"An enclosed, damp space sets the stage of horror.
Within the confines of this small space, the condition for rancor develops, matures with water and easily spreads. Traditionally, an old well is the perfect setting for ghost stories. But these days, wells are few and far between.
Though conceivably different from an old water well, we still have an everyday space with similar conditions.
That’s right. It’s a restroom."

The Author, Mr. Kohji Suzuki, has written the scariest short story to ever reach the confines of your bathroom: "Drop". This horror novel follows in the footsteps of Suzuki's "The Ring," which was made into a movie, and became a social phenomenon.
Complete with 15 illustrations, "Drop" can be read in Japanese and English. But beware; if you read this story, you won't want go to the bathroom at night...

I expected some more from a Koji Suzuki product, but maybe being so short doesn't permit more: heroine of this story needs to use a public toilet while away from her home; while relieving herself, she observes a smear on the stall wall, which she finds it covers a message to look left (like in a child game) and there another one, to look up, where she seems to observe a face from which some teardrops fall on her toilet paper;
then she observes a toilet paper roll on the corner of the stall walls, which when she drops it down seem to have her own face drawn on it ... and she fsints with her own parfume scent in het nose.
A bit later she walks out the rest room, only to feel she is ignored by every passerby, and ehen returning to the rest room, she rralises she's now a ghost looking down over some woman in a stall, and crying over that woman.
Strange ?

Not bad for a horror short originally released printed on toilet paper.

It's kind of funny that Suzuki begins the story by talking about water, a rotting curse, and a well, considering he wrote the infamous "Ring" novels. But there are no wells here. This story is set in a toilet stall and it's written in a way as if the protagonist was the reader.
It's a neat little thing but doesn't really become something very memorable aside from the toilet paper gimmick. It's a decent short with a fairly good idea but probably one of his weaker texts.

I also had to read an unofficial English translation, so I cannot really comment on his use of words here.

I loved it, at first I wasn’t sure what to make out of this book, it almost reads like a dm of some ttrpg dnd game. it puts you in a first person perspective and soon your in a bathroom looking at smears on a wall and soon to a open roof bathroom with a tiny roll of paper staring down on you with a face on it. It all comes around full circle as you make your way out of the bathroom towards the train station where you find a missing person portrait and then you know….. That this is a great short story! Give it a read it’s a quick one

It's quite good. Made me real nervous but has a lot of unresolved points like...

Spoilers :

Would have liked to know how the cycle started ? How it keeps going on as if predetermined ? What happened to the bodies ? What happened during the interim time , etc.

It was a good read, and neat enough idea to have a horror story set in toilets to be written toilet paper

I read this after reading the first book in the Ring series and while it's well written, as to be expected of Suzuki, I ... really don't know what there is to say about the story. Kind of just weird, but worth the quick read anyway!
