Regardless of your age, if your chess level is basic/beginner this is a very good guide. First of all, it starts from the square one: the rules. It covers them thoroughly. But at the same time they are very easy to understand. Good graphs provide adequate background and the language is simple, concise and understandable. This author might not win the next Pulitzer, but sometimes the most difficult to achieve is that simplicity. In second block the book covers some of the most popular openings. This is very useful at beginners to intermediate levels, as it helps to start the game ‘right’. The third main block describes a number of strategies and trade offs that can be useful in the mid part of the game. The last big block covers multiple options to go for the checkmate.
My daughter is 8 and she recently started to play chess. This book is going to be a great present for her.
