I don't even know what to do with this story in my head, if I can even do anything with it - these kids are just one hot mess and I'm not getting off this ride until it's over.

Saya menamatkan buku ini dalam sekali duduk dalam rangka menaati panduan memahami Kagepro. Latar waktu novel ini sama dengan latar waktu di seri sebelumnya, hanya saja fokus pada petualangan Shintaro, Konoha, Mary, dan Kido. Dalam novel juga dijelaskan tentang kisah Azami.

Hal yang baru saya ketahui begitu baca novelnya adalah, ternyata tiap karakternya ini punya kedekatannya masing-masing. Selama hanya mendengarkan lagunya, saya cukup percaya diri bahwa masing-masing karakter punya "pasangan"-nya sendiri-sendiri; Mary dengan Seto, Kano dengan Kido, Shintaro dengan Ayano, Ene dengan Konoha, Hibiya dengan Hiyori. Tapi ternyata lebih dari itu. Momo nyatanya dekat dengan Hibiya. Shintaro dan Ene juga cukup manis. Mereka punya masa lalu dengan salah satu karakter yang ada, tapi mereka nggak semata-mata terjebak di sana dan nggak berinteraksi dengan teman baru mereka.

Novel ini lebih tebal dibandingkan The Children Reason, tapi saya menamatkannya lebih cepat. Di sini Shintaro kadang-kadang masih teringat Ayano; sudah saya duga bahwa kisah masa lalu mereka berdua disimpan untuk bagian akhir. Kano masih misterius dan tidak dapat dipahami. Konoha kocak, kasihan. XD Ene entah kenapa menghilang. Masing-masing tokoh tidak berkarakter datar, keren. Shintaro nggak sepenuhnya membosankan dan menganggap semuanya repot, Kido nggak selamanya seram terus-menerus, Mary nggak selalu malu-malu.

Plotnya menarik, mengungkap masa lalu Mary. Lucu saat Shintaro dan Kido kali pertama menyadari Mary berusia lebih dari seratus tahun. Selain itu, Mary kocak deh, dia seratus tahun hidup masa nggak sadar kunci di kalungnya bisa dibuka untuk laci meja yang selalu terkunci?! Itu plot hole, tapi hal itu tertutup dengan penjelasan, "Benar juga, dia adalah orang yang sama yang ingin berdansa dengan naga yang ditusuknya beberapa saat lalu," dan itu cerdas, menurut saya.

Setelah saya membaca ini, saya menonton Lost Time Memory dan itu sangat sedih. Jujur saja, lagu itu adalah lagu pertama yang saya dengar dan mana saya paham waktu itu. Sekarang saya sudah lebih tercerahkan. Saya masih kagum dengan betapa nekatnya kreator Kagerou Project ini, berani-beraninya bikin tiap produk punya rute linimasa masing-masing. Salut.

So hard to remember all the characters, but only the ones I do remember (besides Momo and that H kid) show up in this vol so it's all good!

This vol focuses on Marie and her past, which was interesting.

Finally the meaning behind Kagerou Daze is revealed, sort of. I'm not sure if it's just coincidence that two characters who have never met came up with the same name or if they came up with it but it means something different.

Since some questions are answered Jin made sure to throw in a bit of a cliff hanger, too bad for him I don't care about the answer to this one.

Final Thoughts: Questions are answered (a bit), secrets and pasts are revealed, and a character can't die. Good on Shintaro for growing up a bit.

Side note: Last vol I wondered Kagerou Daze roman numeral chapters and Kagerou Daze number chapters might signify different things, but this vol Children Record which was number chapters in vol 3 was now roman numeral chapters so maybe it doesn't mean anything?

Again this part had a difficult 1st chapter, but I guess that happens when the author is trying to tell a story unlike other stories.

While Shintaro continues to whine, we find out a lot about Marie's past and we gain some insight into the eye abilities.

The chapters Children Record V & VI plus Headphone Actor V are only in the novels I think.

Franchise wise this ties in with:
Anime: the after credits scenes and parts of episode 10.

Songs: Shinigami Record and a little bit of Kuusou Forest.

There are times when I feel this series is going somewhere, and times when I feel as though the author is just screwing with readers. This is thankfully the former. We actually learn stuff about the world for a change and get some idea of what's going on, but unfortunately there's not much in the way of plot beyond that.
