The history of criminal offense in New Jersey is documented in this book, beginning with a general survey of crime in the state and then focusing on its headline cases, including the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, the John List killings, the mob activities that inspired The Sopranos , and the murder that led to Megan's Law.
This was such a good read and it is not very long at all. I am interested in true crime so this was a good choice for me. I live in New Jersey so it was cool to be able to read about crime that has happened here. Megan's Law which is a very well known law is in there. Megan was a 7 year old who was brutally raped and murdered by her neighbor. He was convicted of previous sex crimes and also lived in the house with other sex offenders. Because it wasn't a law no one knew what they were convicted of. Megan's parents fought hard for this to become a law. Today sex offenders must register no matter where they live. Also in the book is a part on the mafia. And the real people who the show The Sopranos is based off of.
Well written...being from New Jersey I'm more than familiar with several of the stories in the book and I liked how the author added websites to allow a reader to do more research if they wish to do so. An easy read that you basically can finish in half a day.
I enjoyed this short version of NJ true crimes. I had read the long version of some of the stories and Patricia includes a bit more information than I learned before. I highly recommend this book.
