I'm going to start by saying that I am definitely not the target audience for this book. I see lots of high reviews here, so obviously others have read...and loved...this story.
I did not.
I thought it was a book about a chick who falls for a guy, then gets tempted by another guy. With some paranormal stuff thrown in for good measure. Urban fantasy stuff, you know?
Um, I don't know what this is, but it's not urban fantasy. It sort of dances on the edge of erotica, in my opinion.
Nothing wrong with that! It's just not what I was expecting. Or like.
The plot basically revolves around this chick and two cursed brothers. She falls in love with both of them. Has lots of sex with both of them.
I am soooo not the target audience for this.
Beyond the ick factor, I thought the story was laughable.
Nora meets Alec at a vampire-themed masquerade ball. When they meet up again, she notices that he's still wearing his fangs. She thinks it's odd, but he's so smexy that she's ok with it.
Maybe I could have bought that if she were into fantasy role-playing, but she's not.
I don't care how hot a guy is, if he wanders around with fake fangs, and you are not ALSO wearing fake fangs, you would not find him sexy.
In fact, I'm willing to bet money that the words pathetic and dork would scroll though your head, right before you hop in your car and squeal the tires.
But here's the best part:
She has a moment of uncertainty about their relationship when she finds out that he (maybe) didn't go to college.
WTF?!
That he's not in school is a deal-breaker, but the fact that he plays dress-up isn't?

I was curious about that book when I've read reviews telling that it was a good story with romance, two immortal brothers and a college girl, lots of myths, bites, and love...
The book start with Nora going to a party with her roommate and good friend Scarlet. Then she meet Alec, a mysterious guy with sharp teeth(no kidding?) and start almost immediately to make out with him. I found it a little precipitate but it wasn't bothering me that much.
Then we meet his equally handsome (if more) brother, Caleb. Nora is immediately attracted to him too (no surprise there).
I really liked the heroine sometimes because she was always making jokes or sarcastic comments especially when the situation is tense, it was fun.
But sometimes I was (just a little) upset with her when she didn't acknowledge what was just under her nose. Oh, and when she acted like a bad-ass in the Church (you'll know what I mean if you read it ;))
Yay, girl.
I found that Caleb and Nora had a lot more of chemistry and sexual tension than Alec and Nora. At first, I didn't like Caleb at all with his bad boy and cocky attitude and also because of their curse, he has to kill time and time again his brother. Alec was kind and sweet but at the middle of the book or so, the author write the story so that we're falling in love with Caleb at the same time as the character and I was feeling kind of guilty for doing so.
Sometimes, I was heartbroken for the brothers ( yeah, I think I actually cried once but I won't tell you that because I'm a big softy at heart and can't help it). Nora can't choose between them because she loves them equally and they love her too. And I was torn up, I wanted to hug them (even Caleb who's supposed to be the "evil" brother and would have probably bite me if I hugged him).
The mythological part of the story is quite well developed especially with the explanations of the immortal brothers and Henry, the professor. There was a lot of it, but it wasn't really boring so it was fine with me.
Fortunately, the book has an happy ending and doesn't have a cliffhanger (thank god). Now I wonder how the dynamics of the three characters is going to evolve in the next book (if there is one).
Anyway, for me it was an interesting read and if you want to read a book full of myths, history, but also a trilogy with sort of "vampires" and all that, you can read this one :). (There are also monsters eating flesh, or eating children... you've been warned.)

I received a copy of this book from netgalley and just finished it. This book was not for me. I had many issues with this book and one of the biggest ones was the lack of character development. The book didn't really explain that much and I was not able to connect to Nora, the main character, at all. She seemed like a smart girl but I just felt absolutely no connection to her at all. The back story about the two men in Nora's life also needed to be explained much further. I guess along with no character development, there was a lack of plot development as well.
I had a huge problem with this book....I realize it is a fantasy book and not real....but, the characters in this book all seemed to accept major changes and even WTF moments like they weren't a big deal. I think that is why it was hard to relate to them...they did not react in a realistic manner at all. Nora was willing to give up her life after meeting Alec like two times....come on!!! Also, I do not mind love triangles but I just was disgusted at Nora's actions dealing with Alec and Caleb. She didn't seem to be that type of girl or at least that is what it sounded like at the beginning, but she changed so easily.
I think there was a good story here...I liked the concept of Lillith and the mythology portion but by the time all of that was trying to be explained, it was too late for me. I just wanted the book to end!

There many phrases in this book that I found fantastic and I was really drawn to them. My initial thought about this when reading the first few pages was okay, this is some kind of Vampire Diaries stuff with equal sexiness and angst. I like that this book kept me on the edge of my seat somehow, because sometimes there are reads that are too sexy you forget what the story has to tell; but in here, the author managed to keep the attention of her readers to both the story which is really complex and the steamy romance of Nora, Alec and Caleb.
Nora, okay let me gather my thoughts first because I was still indecisive of what to write about her. To be honest her character is something that a reader like me would not take seriously. But I like her, I like her humor, I like it when she says funny stuff in some really intense and serious situations. Her sarcasm is a bonus on the other side. But I never knew that I will soon flipped from loving her to being so pissed off. I don't get the idea that when she's with Alec she feels like this and that and she keeps promises a lot, and she does the same things to Caleb. I knew when the moment came that Alec has to leave, I knew Nora will turn out to be this mischievous college girl who worries more of the ache between her legs than the repercussions of being equally in love with Alec and Caleb. I mean the thought of being loved by the two is exhilarating in theory, but even in real life it's complex and unhealthy.
Alec and Caleb have some real issues that include humanity. These two were living for what seems like a lifetime, and I don't know how exhausting and ecstatic that must feel like at the same time. I could say that Caleb has given me more impact than what Alec has. It's not because Nora spent much more time with him than with Alec but it was because Caleb was more specific, he's honest and bold with what he really feels. My initial impression of Alec was vague, vague in a way that he's still keeping things from Nora and he couldn't seem to gather his guts up to be even more explicit. Moving on, let me tell you this, the brothers were sexy and I couldn't blame Nora if she's gone insane, crazy, greedy and always hungry for this two.
I found it hard to decipher when a fantasy, paranormal romance was mixed with biblical mythology. And not just an ordinary ancient biblical myth, a myth that humanity knows with a basic knowledge. At first I was really flummoxed with the tangled hints the characters were giving me, but in the end my questions were answered and I was satisfied. I just didn't get swooped away by the action though because surprisingly I got busy probing the secrets that were about to reveal than Nora and the Brothers defeating the evil. All in all, I love the story. I was surprised in the end and that at least it wasn't a cliffhanger.
It just made me laugh knowing where Nora and The brothers ended up.
Really Nora? it was like Alec at day Caleb at night stuff. I knew this from the very start, Nora is a ninja!

I understood from the beginning this wasn't going to be a book for me. I cringed at the teenager/"new adult" who was pimping/primping herself at the mirror.
I tried and soldiered on. But at 20% I really could not stomach it any more. The main lady is a college student and I was appalled at her (lack of) thoughts and behaviour. She tried to jump a stranger bones three times for the heck of it. Her room mate started a sex relationship with a professor. One of the guy (clearly there are going to be 2) keeps going Twilight on her.
Where's the depth of character? Writing, discourse and story were lacklustre enough that I couldn't find a reason to read it to the end.

Lord where to begin with this review. I read the book a week ago and I am still reeling from it. I mean this book has everything in it and it is simply AMAZING! This is one of those books where it is a diamond in the rough and once people start reading it they will not be able to put it down. I mean I could not put it down and I told my family you are on your own because I need some me time! First I have to say that the cover fits the book to a T because as you start reading about Nora and Alec meeting you will understand the cover. I have to say KUDOS big time to Sarah Daltry for pulling off this book and it's contents because HOLY S*&^ I never would have thought to read such an interesting back story of the main male characters. The story line that is used is very unique and I will say this because I am doing a non spoiler review for this book because I loved it so much that you have to read it yourself to get the full affect of the book. Sarah man I wish I had your brain because that was BRILLIANT using one of the oldest stories in the bible. If you are religious and get upset when a story is used for other purposes outside of the church then DON"T READ THIS BOOK! It will be your loss!

Nora is not sure why she is going but she told Scarlet she would go so she has found the perfect dress and mask to hide her face and her Scarlet set off to the masquerade party. Once there Nora feels a little out of place and she is so surprised by how many people came out to this party. A few even have fangs and everything else to get into the role playing part they are going to have at the party. Then Nora gets a glimpse of a mask that has the most exquisite eyes and she is enraptured by him. As they talk and get to know each other Nora feels a pull towards him which she does not understand. Just as they are getting to know each other some at the masquerade gets hurt and her mystery man Alec leaves.
Nora can't stop thinking about Alec when she sees him again. As they talk she finds herself falling for him and wanting to do things with him but every time she tries Alec runs away from her saying it can't happen. A little frustrated and a lot hurt she has resigned herself to not having Alec. Just as things are going along she meets Alec's brother Caleb. Lord Jesus Caleb is a bad boy extraordinaire and he does not apologize for his badness. All Caleb knows is that he is inexplicably attracted to Nora and can't stay away from her. Just as Alec and Caleb get close to Nora something happens and sets the premise of the book and Alec is the one who will have to hunt down the person or thing trying to hurt him and his brother and the thing or person wants Nora. They are trying to kill her and to keep her safe she will have to stay with Caleb at his home alone and yes she is so not feeling that because feelings are starting to surface and she is not sure why she feels so connected to Caleb as well as Alec. How can this be? What will happen if Alec finds out? Will he leave her? What is hunting Nora?
This is a MUST READ book! Go out and get it because it is RELEASE DAY for BITTER FRUITS!

Wow. I must say that this was in no way the story that I was expecting. At all. I don't even know if I can properly discuss it here without Amazon refusing to publish my review and/or being the Spoiler Queen of North Texas.
So there's this party, that our heroine, Nora, and her roommate, Scarlet, are going to go to. Of course, our dear Nora normally does not dress this way (she's usually pretty casual, ya know?), but it's sort of a dress-up affair put on by some Vampire Club from their college. It's being held at an old church, and Nora gets into the Victorian get-up, with the cleavage and red lipstick and beribboned mask. At least it's not going to be another frat party, amirite? Scarlet disappears the minute they are inside, so Nora finds her way over to the punch bowl. The most handsome man she has ever seen (an honor that he holds for a few pages, at least) sidles up to her, and she immediately feels a connection that she's never felt before. Blah blah blah, do re mi and (everyone say it with me) INSTA-LOVE IT IS! Well, at least until she's approached by...his brother. Oh brother.
Scarlet is discovered in a darkened nook with no other than Nora's fave professor, Henry (Dr. Kenyon during school hours), a mythology professor. Nora really likes his class, but he warns her against fraternizing (Ha! Brothers! Fraternizing! Never mind.) with Alec and Caleb, but doesn't get around to telling her why, exactly, before - poof! - he disappears. As Nora begins to learn about the history of Alec and Caleb, she realizes that not only is she in love with one brother - she's in love with both. Hooray! That means, since she apparently has ZERO CONTROL over herself with EITHER brother, she can have blame-free, graphic, crazy, sweaty (but love-based) sex with BOTH! The LUCK of this girl!
Anywho...let's just say that there's Biblical stories, revenants, not-vampires, vampires and two hot yet cool-with-the-sharing-arrangements guys (GO GO GIRL POWER!). Oh and they all need to rid the earth of something and stop this curse soon so Nora can pass her statistics exam already! Sheesh!
So...it's not like it's horrible, per se, but, I dunno, I guess when the mutual attraction borders on the porn-y, it is super hard (get your mind out of the gutter) to take any other part of the story seriously. And really, you would never know the thrust of the story was erotic (that's what she said) from the description. I really can't judge the rest of the tale since all roads lead to driving Miss Nora toward the dizzying heights of pleasure. Oh - and don't call them vampires (I'm sure that it is just coincidence that the man on the cover looks like Robert Pattinson).

Vampires. Masquerades. I was instantly intrigued when I saw this and all over reading Bitter Fruits immediately. I could not wait to read Bitter Fruits. But like the title I was constantly puzzled by what the hell was going on. At times it was as confusing, frustrating and daunting as an episode of True Blood. When Lilith was brought up I could not help but make the connection to the show and also Supernatural which had its own Lillith character.
The story itself was just weird to me. The romance was kind of lame and the insta-love was more like insta-lust that never left. Hell, Nora even wants his brother so I was just all over the place. So much happens and so little, at the same time, if that makes sense. They barely if ever leave campus and the characters are so very hard to relate to. Everything seemed more outward description wise, discouraging a bond with the characters and understanding who they are, their feelings etc. Aside from being an English/History major, living with Scarlet, educated parents and having the hots for Alec I didn’t felt I got to know Nora. In fact her instant attraction to Alec was more off-putting than most considering she was ready to rip her clothes off and do both him and his brother with no thought. Even when she was ‘with’ Alec her connection with Caleb was awkward. I’m all for ménage’s and though this isn’t’ one, the whole I can’t fight this connection to Caleb was annoying because I wasn’t sure if that is who we were supposed to rooting for or Alec or even both. She just sort of reeks desperation and it’s exhausting. By the time she got mad at a fellow student for not keeping track of her friend, I wanted to smack her because she was so ignorant to the fact that she herself was doing the same thing. Just like trying to save two brothers from killing each other but sleeping with them both.. Hmmm.
I do think the Biblical connection is interesting but even that just went all over the place. Then add to that them having sex in a church pew and I was a bit frazzled and not because I’m religious or anything. The ending was not all surprising and though I’m glad with how it worked out, the story as a whole just did not work for me. I loved the whole Adam/Eve Cain/Able connections but the whole Lilith and I continually kill my brother all the time theme was just not enough for me. I think if I could have connected better with Nora and gotten to know her more before meeting the brothers, understanding her would have been easier. Add in a more subtle insta-lvoe and I would have been on board. But as it was about half way through I struggled to continue because I could not get a grasp on the almost vague and drab story. This book was like on overcast day; dreary, hazy and unsure.

I signed on for the tour for this book because its Arc reviews Raved and it honestly looked Great. I was not let down at all. Admittedly I was surprised but the book, but it was a fresh take on some myth and I loved it! I couldn’t wait to see where it was going. Two Immortal Men, One Beautiful College student, and An Ancient Curse. It had all the makings for a great book and as I said It delivered.
Nora starts off the book by attending a Vampire Ball with her college Roomate Scarlet. Hello Immortal brother number one. We meet Alec and see the sparks for the first second their eyes meet. Within minutes Nora is ready to be Alecs’ even if she has no idea what that means. Then enters our equally panty dropping worthy Caleb.
From that moment forward Nora’s life would change. Dual Attraction to two brothers. If that wasn’t complicated enough, they are both immortal and she is thrown into the middle of a nasty sibling rivalry in a way.
I thought Nora was a great character. She was well developed and very relatable, Her actions and responses were hilarious at some points and she was overall very likable. To top it off she was super pretty a a really nice person. I also Loved the fact that she had such immense chemistry with both brothers. It made for a very, hoe do we say, complicated novel. I liked that as an extra plot twist.
The Brothers. Now I am totally Team Caleb. I liked his jerky attitude from the start, as I had my assumptions as to why he was the way he was. I also felt that he had better chemistry with Nora from what scenes we got to read with them together. The way that I fell in love with them being in love was sort of guilty ( You will see what I mean) But I still love them together. Nora on the other hand was torn in two. She is in love with both brothers and has no semblance of who she is going to choose. While this is happening you have to imagine what these men are going through. Not an easy situation.
To top this all off they are in a legit mythical battle between each other, an evil force to be reckoned with, and an unknown force out to kill everyone. It got quite complicated and very in depth into some myths, but the author did a great job of explaining all fo this to you and having the plot flow smoothly.
Vampires, Myths, legends, history, flesh eaters, we have the whole enchilada here. Its a great read and you wont be left wanting.

College student with low self esteem + sexy vampire + instantly falling in love + sex + life threatening action subplot = the premise here. We have a YA sounding writing with sex added in. It follows the Twilight formula with a drab girl who has a mega hot vampire instantly fall in love with her, but we never understand why. I like paranormal romance, so I thought I'd like this but I just couldn't get into it. I kept slogging through, but it didn't improve. The lack of character development was so profound, I could not engage with the characters. There is no build up to convince us why Nora and Alec instantly fall in love. Fall in lust I could believe, but the author makes quite the point that it is love with how much the characters are professing it. I have no idea what is supposed to make Alec so great - other than being told as a reader that he's hot. Show me why! I also don't know what Alec sees in Bella, I mean Nora. Henry (no plot spoilers) is Nora's professor who is also dating her (college-aged) roommate. Nora has seen photos of his junk - cringeworthy. I was creeped out by this relationship. It's like your therapist dating your roommate. There are other fish in the sea bro, keep fishing. I also couldn't handle the dialogue. It felt way too YA. Finally, to make a comparison, 50 Shades had a gripping plot outside of the sex scenes, but basically this book is set up like a porno - a poor pretense of having a plot, but it's meant for readers who just want to jump to the sex scenes.

Bitter Fruits is the story of Nora, a young college student, who gets pulled into an ancient jealousy-fueled feud between two brothers. To make it even neater, they are cursed. That’s what happens when a person is too blinded by jealousy to notice when the mother of all evil decides to put a hex on you. Luckily for Nora, she holds the key to ending the curse that dates back to literally the beginning of mankind.
Sarah Daltry does an excellent job of capturing Nora’s voice. It is difficult enough to accurately capture the confusion and uncertainty that goes along with being an average college student, but throw that college student into an unknown world and pull her heart in two directions and that ramps it up by about a thousand degrees.
Additionally, Sarah shows great skill at navigating different cultures/times in history through her use of vernacular. She doesn’t go over the top, but it’s clear that the two brothers are living (or unliving?) in a time out of sync with their origin, yet they are able to mimic well enough as to not stand out completely.
I especially love to explore and discuss different religious theories, to examine the origins of different myths. In Bitter Fruits, Sara does a great job of presenting an old Bible story with a whole new twist. I very much approve.

I wasnt sure Id like this when I first started reading.It took a bit for me to get into it.Who doesnt like vampires? This is just a different spin on it. I gave her 3 stars close to 4. I loved how Ms Daltry worked in the simularities of her characters and that of the bible book genisis. The one emotion that I think is as powerful as love, rears its ugly head. That emotion would be jealousy, even amoung the first family.
The love from Nora for her "vampire" along with her determination again makes this a good story.
Im not sure who to feel sorry for Alec who wants to love but tries to fight it and his feelings for nora. Or for Nor who is mostly clueless about what Alec is but knows she loves him reguardless. And the sexy brother Caleb..mmm I dont see how anyone could endure the cycle both brothers have to endure. What a emotional roller coaster for all the characters!

This book was so good! I couldn't put it down! Nora is just a college student going to a vampire themed party when she meets the mysterious, cursed Alec and Caleb. Who holds the key to the curse? You will have to read and find out!!
I really like the author's style of writing! There was just enough romance and mystery to keep the story alive! I gave this book 5 stars because do the love scenes and the plot.
The storyline grabbed me in the first chapter and the ending has me begging for more!

This book looked really promising! I was sooo excited to get approved to review it. I can't say I ended up liking this book though. There were too many elements that just seemed too strange for me. I liked the concept, even the church thing. There was just so much more I didn't. Bitter Fruits fell short of my expectations. I did enjoy the masquerade party though and I'm a huge fan of love triangles so it had those things going for it. Overall, I found myself conflicted about what to rate this, so it ended up with an average rating of three stars.

DNF - I don't understand all the 5 star ratings !?
Without the sudden sexual acts a 100% YA book. Needs some more editing. The way the schoolgirl jumps in to bed with her vamp is a little drastic in the overall YA setting and lack of world building or basic character description is very disappointing.

I LOVED this book!!! It pulled me in right from the start! the storyline was great and I was always in the edge of my seat. I really really loved the characters in this book and in all honestly it would make one incredible movie. Can't wait for y'all to read it :)

My Thoughts:
Bitter Fruits was my first introduction to Sarah Daltry's writing and I have to admit that I was not disappointed. The story was elaborative and full of intensity and depth. I appreciated how the story incorporated biblical lore, ancient myths, romance, and a myriad of paranormal elements.
Nora is just an average college girl. Her life is normal until she attends a vampire masquerade ball on campus. Thinking that the ball will be a typical college party, Nora is taken by surprise when she is swept off of her feet by a handsome and enigmatic young man, Alec. Alec and Nora's attraction blaze from the instant they meet. But...Alec isn't the only one who has set his sights on Nora. His brother Caleb desires her as well. Alec and Caleb are the original rivals and their contention is the genesis of all sibling rivalry in history. Nora soon discovers that she loves both men. Her heart will not allow her to choose one of them over the other. That decision thrusts her in the middle of their long-stand rivalry but it also places her front and center in an epic battle that looms between the forces of good and evil.
I was very impressed with the intricacies and attention to detail in the story. I find that a lot of authors miss the mark when inserting legends into fiction because the legend becomes so watered down that it becomes a pale replica of the original. That was not the case in this story. The legend of Lilith and the elements surrounding her held true to the original lore; however, Daltry added some unique twists to it that made it even that much more interesting and compelling. I appreciated all the unexpected turns that occurred during the story. Just when you thought you had things figured out, a twist would pop up that would have you guessing all over again. For me, those are the best types of stories because they keep my rapt attention all the way through.
A word about the characters...
I am not typically a fan of "love triangle" stories but again...this was not your typical love triangle. The relationship between Nora, Alec, and Caleb was very interesting. First, the triangle should have never existed. Nora's heart originally belonged to Alec. She actually didn't even like Caleb at first even though she was very drawn to him. As the story progesses, the relationship between all three characters morphs and grows stronger. Brothers who were rivals learn to trust, respect, and even like each other because Nora stands between them -- not as an impediment, but a bridge between them. I also loved seeing the change in Caleb as the story progressed. I didn't care for him at first. The nature of his origins made him unlikeable...very unlikeable. Again, because of Nora, he slowly but surely becomes a better man and at the end of the story his former self has been completed usurped by a lighter version of himself.
Now the other characters in the story. All I can say is "wow". The conflict between Lilith and her rival was intense because it was so brilliantly unexpected.
In the end...
Bitter Fruits was a gripping, passionate, and amazing read.

April 25, 2016What I read of this wasn't anything new from a vast majority of paranormal YA (er, NA? tbh the main character read younger than college age to me) I've read before, especially years ago when these types of stories were abundant. Girl meets mysterious guy (at a vampire masquerade party, no less) and falls completely under his spell because he's sooo fucking hot. I mean, he's a walking Adonis. And she feels suuuuch a connection to him and honestly how can she feel like she's met him before?? Cue me rolling my eyes throughout that whole scene. This book isn't even trying to be any different or unique. And, to make it better, here's how the first 25% went down for these two characters' relationship:
Alec: You, me, a darkened nook so we can fool around, what do you say?
Nora: Maybe I shouldn't. Nah, ok.
Alec: Oh wait, meet my brother. I'm sure this won't be a disaster. And that you won't fall in love with him later on in the story.
Nora: Nevermind him, let's just have sex.
Alec: Okay. No, wait, I can't. You are too pure and good and I am going to ruin you. Byeeee
*next day*
Nora: Oh, hello again, it's not AT ALL creepy that you knew exactly where I was on the campus.
Alec: Wanna make out? We can't have sex though because you deserve better than me, I can't drag you into my darkness, blahblahblah.
Nora: I don't care.
Alec: Well, I do. I think you should get to know me before we get too far. Let's have a picnic tomorrow and tell all our secrets.
*a new day*
Nora: So, where are you from? Do you go to school?
Alec: No, shhh, no talking, it's time to make out.
Nora: Seeeeeex
Alec: No, I can't. You are too pure. I can't.
Nora: COME ON

Nora: Alec, everyone told me not to meet you, but I decided not to listen. I seriously don't care about your past or who you are.

Nora: So, what are you, a vampire? Either that, or you're insane. Whatever, let's have sex.
Alec: Are you sure you still want me?
Nora: Yeah, 100%, I feel like I've known you foreeeever
Alec: *sigh* Okay
And then afterward, they declared their love for each other, because THAT is obviously believable. I cannot handle another 75% of this shit. I'm pretty positive the focus on Cain/Abel (Charles/Allen from a past cycle of death, Caleb/Alec from this new life) and this Lilith character are going to come into play later on, and I feel like I can guess the majority of how this'll all turn out. And, not to mention, I KNOW this is love triangle is going to make me want to throw my kindle against the wall. So I'm DNFing. This is like a bad mix of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries.
Alec: You, me, a darkened nook so we can fool around, what do you say?

And then afterward, they declared their love for each other, because THAT is obviously believable. I cannot handle another 75% of this shit. I'm pretty positive the focus on Cain/Abel (Charles/Allen from a past cycle of death, Caleb/Alec from this new life) and this Lilith character are going to come into play later on, and I feel like I can guess the majority of how this'll all turn out. And, not to mention, I KNOW this is love triangle is going to make me want to throw my kindle against the wall. So I'm DNFing. This is like a bad mix of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries.

Bitter Fruits. Sarah Daltry.

I love vampire books, and this one sounded just perfect for me – and it was! It had characters I could engage with and empathise, a good “nasty” (actually three of them!), some spicy well written sex scenes, and all wrapped up in a believable and interesting tale. Of course when reading fantasy “believable” is a conceptual phrase and something of an oxymoronic one, but even though normal rules of what can and can't happen need to be put to one side, the plot and characters still have to me to have a sense of reality about them. Sarah creates that sense of reality/normality perfectly. Nora is lovely – falls for Alec straight away and what a gentleman he is. What I loved about Nora was that she was just an everyday person, struggling with uni, wanting to go out and have fun and totally smitten by the hot guy she met, and yet puzzled,frustrated and sometimes annoyed by his odd behaviour and secrets. Nora is intelligent too, and her love for Myths and Legends led neatly into the inclusion of Henry, one of her professor tutors, and of course his girlfriend and her room-mate Scarlet. Scarlet doesn't play a huge part but Henry's knowledge of the legends surrounding Lilith, super-naturals and the Bible play a huge part in bringing the story to life. Then there's Caleb, Alec’s brother – they have a complicated relationship.
I loved the way Sarah brought this motley group together, the way they supported each other and the way Nora brought out the best in both Alec and Caleb despite the problems of their relationships. They were all people with faults and I felt like I knew them and understood why they felt and acted as they did.
The story unfolds into a mixture of old myths, bible tales and current dangers. It was at times quite riveting, wondering what was coming next. I couldn't work out ahead of the reveal just what was happening, as it wasn't just one simple plot but other minor ones cleverly drawn in, and I really enjoyed the way the novel played out. It finished neatly with all revealed for this book, no nasty cliffhangers!! and yet left openings for further books. I hope that's in Sarah's plans as I'd love to rejoin Nora and friends and see where the story takes them next.
Its very well written, the plots all flow neatly into one another and there's no sense of boredom creeping in – the ennui you get sometimes when reading stuff that's been done so many times before. Sarah manages to put a new, fresh slant on the vampire genre with her Immortals; like vampires in many ways, but with some specifics of their own that fit her novel perfectly.
Its priced at £3.08 for 394KB (185 paperback pages but I don't know how many e-book pages). I think its good value because its one for my keepers files and will bear multiple reads. I love to re read my favourites.
Stars: full five, I loved this book. Can't fault it and look forward to more from Sarah.

Professor Henry and beautiful Scarlet are Nora’s friends and they join in the apocalypse-diverting battle plan. Caleb, Alec, and Nora are the focus of this story. Nothing in this story was predictable, so I most sympathized with Nora. Not just because we are female, but because she was with me in not knowing what was coming until we were there. I hope Ms. Daltry will continue this story. Lilith is still out there!

This is not your typical vampire love story...
I was really eager to read this book from the very first time that I read the synopsis. It sounded like a book that I would typically read. The very beginning immediately caught my attention, the way the author started the book was interesting and it left me wondering more of the characters. Needless to say, I felt that the very first chapters were a bit too rushed for my liking. The story starts with Nora, a college student going to a masquerade ball with her friend/roommate Scarlet. The atmosphere of the party is Gothic-like and it helps cover Alec's true identity. They meet and their attraction is so instantaneously that they can't keep their hands off each other. As she leads him to one of the rooms, they suddenly encounter Caleb, Alec's handsome brother. Alec claims to want Nora, yet his mood changes and tells her that he doesn't want to corrupt someone as pure as her. Nora is then distracted by someone yelling coming out of the house claiming that a “monster” had bitten her. When she turns to see Alec, he had already disappeared.
The story itself was interesting, it's full of twists and turns that made it enjoyable to read. I did find Nora a bit irritating sometimes. As a character/heroine she doesn't know what to do without hurting the two brothers. Alec's personality was the sweetest and the one that attracted me towards his character even more. On the other hand, Caleb is the wild and charming. He definitely knows how to have fun. The chemistry between the two brothers is practically nonexistent. They don't like each other because of the curse that they have. Nora is attracted to both of them, but she has to find the balance to save/keep them both. I was surprised to see how everything unfolded at the end. The author mixes vampire and stories/myths of the bible. It was definitely not something that I was expecting to read from the synopsis of the story. Was I disappointed? Not really. The author found a way to incorporate all of those details into a good story, but I did find that it wasn't as well-written. I felt that it needed something more to make it perfect. The end ties everything together, and I'm wondering if she is going to write another book. I would recommend everyone to give it a try, it's definitely not your typical love story, but it's definitely a book worth exploring more.

I usually am not a huge fan of vampire romance books. The only vampire books I really get excited about are ones like Buffy where the vampires are the ones being killed or ones where there are vampires that are a new take on a classic horror creature. So I was really pleasantly surprised when I actually enjoyed this book!
The romance in this book is a main plot point, but it's messy and complicated. Oh, and very steamy. Definitely 18+. Nora is torn between two men - Alec and Caleb - and feels inexplicably drawn to both of them. Alec is the sweet one; he refuses to sleep with her until she knows his story and even then wants to make sure she understands what exactly will happen to him. He doesn't want to involve her in his world unless she decides that's where she wants to be. I really enjoyed learning more about him as Nora did and watching his secrets unfold.
And then there's Caleb, who is seen as the "bad boy" and the scarier of the two. His fate is tied to Alec's in a big way and I really enjoyed the connection that's endured through time. Nora feels totally different with him than with Alec and tries to avoid him as much as possible until the pull is just too much. There's a really strong connection there, and I thought it was really interesting to see how Nora was connected to both men in totally different ways. I also really liked how she made her choice when the time came, and am glad that things worked out for them.
Another thing I really enjoyed about this book was the inclusion of the Biblical mythology. Lilith plays a huge role in this book, and I really liked how she was portrayed. She's not really evil, but she's definitely not good. I think she's just really misunderstood and I appreciated her side of the story too. I also think there's still a lot more to learn about her, and I really hope that Sarah continues this series and completes the trilogy she had planned.

I really can't wait to read the rest of this trilogy eventually! 4/5!

I thought the book was ok--I wanted to like it more, but based on the summary it wasn't quite the story I expected. Nora meets two vampire brothers Caleb & Alec at a masquerade party. Alec is destined to die by Caleb's hand over and over for all eternity, because of a curse that goes all the way back to the origins of mankind. This premise reminded me a lot of another popular book I've read, but I'd rather not mention the title.
The author gives a long, fragmented, confusing, and convoluted explanation for the curse and the solution to ending it. Throughout the book, the characters mostly speculate about the curse, no real clear-cut statements, which made it look like the author was making this stuff up as she went along. As far as showing vs. telling, "Bitter Fruits" is a whole lot of tell. Aside from the numerous sex scenes, not a lot actually happens in real time until the last 50 pages or so.
Although I like humor, for some reason all the wisecracks, sarcasm, and attempts at being cute didn't work. The timing and the toning is all off, which made it difficult to get into this book. It didn't feel like a paranormal romance. I think Sarah Daltry would excel at writing contemporary romance, but in this one instance, paranormal romance not so much.
Nora has a lot of sex that I wasn't expecting--At least not that much. And her relationship w/both brothers was a bit of a surprise as well. While an actual threesome does not take place, it is a threesome relationship, so...Kinda confusing for me. It's hard enough having a relationship with one person, but having a relationship with two brothers who hate each other was a tough sell. It's important to note that the brothers weren't actually present in the same room together for most of the book. While Nora was with Alec, Caleb was out of the picture and vice versa. I thought this was way too convenient, and I can't help but wonder if the story would have been a lot more interesting if they had stuck around together more. At least then, maybe we'd have some bickering, maybe a good fist-fight...

i got this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
ok, i didn't think this book was going to be a smut, but there are some nice sex scenes. nothing to have you drooling over, but it is pretty romantic.
this book is all about mythology. yup, right down to the bible. so if this is not your cup of tea you need to walk away now. nora is a mythology student who is invited to a vampire party. she instantly falls for a guy named Alec who she thinks is taking the vampire game way to seriously. the best part about Nora is the love triangle that she is faced with. Ladies, this isn't a normal love triangle that will have you wanting to pull your hair out. it actually goes with the flow of the book.

I hope that's in Sarah's plans as I'd love to rejoin Nora and friends and see where the story takes them next.

Usually, I've figured a book out two or three chapters in…it is very rare that a book keeps me guessing. I had all sorts of possibilities in my head about what might happen between Caleb, Alec, and Nora but just couldn't pin one down. The ending was within the realm of possibilities I had imagined, but delivered so much more. There were so many twists and turns that I absolutely did not see coming, and the book ends on a big question mark (fingers crossed for another book, maybe?). I also have to warn any potential readers, if you are like me, you’ll be internet searching for all sorts of legends as you read (in case you’re wondering, Nora means light or honor). You know when a book engages a reader that much, that they want to learn more about the subject, it’s going to be a good read.
So, what to expect? This book is different from most other urban/paranormal fantasies. There is danger lurking close by, but the target and even the perpetrator is often blurry. You’re not exactly sure that the bad guy is such a bad guy, and feel sympathy for the oddest characters. This is not an action packed thriller, in fact, little description goes into the battle scenes. However, the strength of the characters shine through by their actions and words, and their battle prowess can’t be doubted when the ash starts to pile up. Of course, there is sex, and it is good sex, full of emotion and passion, always a plus.
This books marks the end of one way of life for the characters, and the beginning of something new and unique. I do hope that there is more to come, because I absolutely loved this book!
My only (minor) complaint, is that the first chapter starts stating it is 1963. You assume that time has passed when the second chapter begins, but no mention of date is explicitly stated; how much time has passed is not revealed until much later in the book. It would have been nice to know that the story began x years later, especially when considering the importance of the fifty year cycles.

Why, why, why Sarah? I'm so torn and frustrated. The story was great but the start of the book... I would say don't get me started but then i won't be doing myself any favours... Right, lets start.
The beginning Nora and her best friend/ college roommate, Scarlett go to this mysterious masquerade ball in a church on their school campus, it is full of Edward Cullen ("Vampire") fanatics, and as soon as Nora and Scarlett enter the church they're separated.
Nora meets Alec.
She has this instant and intense attraction to him, she is then briefly introduced to his brother Caleb who she also feels an attraction with even while she is beside Alec. As swiftly as he came, Caleb leaves them, so Alec decides to take Nora on a nighttime stroll. Things get very heated and they almost have a romp in the dirt until Chloe who is someone Nora knows from school comes out of the church screaming. Alec is gone.
I felt the book was too much sexual antics, i understand the premise of Erotica but at first it felt there was too much antics and not enough story to the point i put the book down and read another book, then of course i owed it to myself and the author to finish reading and of course to write my review.
After having a bit of a refresher (i'd say about 25% through the book) I felt the story come to life, it was intelligent and I liked Nora, granted in some areas I rolled my eyes at her but she was witty and funny and when he and Scarlett got together they were great and you could tell how strong their bond was as friends.
In regards to Alec and Caleb in all honesty i was more drawn to Caleb, I think mainly due to the fact his relationship with Nora started in the middle of the story while Alec's started at the beginning when I wasn't feeling too connected.

I would like to see the cover look a bit more simple, I think there is a bit too much going on and it's also quite dark and the different fonts don't work well together. I like the "Bitter Fruits" font as i feel is works well with what the story is about but the other two just clutter it up.

I didn't know what to expect from this book, the blurb sounded great and intriguing, it was getting rave reviews so when I seen a copy of it on Netgalley I thought why not and hope to be accepted.
The story starts off with Nora and her roommate Scarlett getting ready to go a masquerade ball being held at an old church on campus being held by a group heavily into vampires. It is here that she meets Alec and is instantly drawn to him and ready to find a nook in the church to get it on!!! The attraction is mutual then along comes comes Caleb a more handsome and more intense brother who surprise surprise she wants to get it on with him also.
Now that characters I have no idea what team I'm on i kept thinking through the whole book what about Alec I get she loves 2 guys which is fine that can work and then crap goes down and you do things for both of them and would sacrifice yourself if you had to. I think I'm team Alec as much as I loved Caleb there was something about Alec. I love Nora's sarcastic nature, she is deeply loyal to not only the brothers but her best friend Scarlett she is a person I would love to be friends with. At times I just wanted to yell at her WAKE UP!!! just stop and listen instead of just running into it but that's Nora's nature.
I absolutely loved the mythology side to all this the Cain and Able, Adam and Eve, Lilith and how it all came about and all the different interactions of them, Miss Daltry made is easy to follow which was a big help and also Nora's professor Henry who was a great addition to the story, this book has everything vampires, children eating demons all tied in with the history and mythology of where and how it started.
If your into all that and its not over the top like you find in some books then i definitely recommend this book and I'm looking forward to where book 2 takes us.

I was given a free copy (ARC) in exchange of an honest review, thanks to Lovers of Paranormal group.
I both liked and didn't like this book. I mostly didn't like Nora, actually. She irritated me to no end with her choices and behaviours. I didn't like how she reacted to Caleb at first. I actually kind of hated her for about half of the book or more. And I was a little sorry for Alec. Although he was a little frustrating at first. Just f@ck me now and shut up, dude!
I liked Caleb a lot, instead, after I got to know him better. He really was cute and even kind of sweet. Other than being HOT as all Hell! I maybe like Caleb more than Alec. Which is strange and surprising, since I really liked Alec at first, and found Caleb being arrogant and evil. Which is not true, by the way.
I liked a lot Henry. I liked him very, very much and I may even have fallen in love with him if not for Caleb's deliciousness.
Scarlet was nice too, but I wasn't just very fond of her. There wasn't much room for her, when all hell broke loose and anything happened. She was kind of fun at times, though. And she and Henry were cute.
I liked the story and it was very interesting how the author took the myths of Cain and Abel and Adam and Eve ad Lilith and put them together in a tangled mess of intrigue and mystery. I've always been a huge fan of myths and the story of Lilith, Eve and Adam and the myth of Cain being the first Vampire ever.
I am curious to read the next book and to know what will happen with Caleb, Nora and Alec and if/when Lilith will show up to get revenge.
One thing I know for sure, and I confess of being envious, Nora is such a lucky b*tch! Two immortal hotties. And I mean it, HOTTIES with a great passion. And she doesn't have to choose. At least for now. Lucky girl, as I said!
