The moment they both believe all hope is lost is the moment something real finally begins.
I have loved Mason Trent for years, but I've only been sleeping with him for one.
None of my friends know about our secret passion. He's in my bed one night and in the arms of someone else the next. And it's tearing me apart.
I've done everything I can think of to make him mine, but the more I cling to him, the harder he pushes me away. I'm spiraling out of control, not sure how much more of this I can take. A girl can only bend so far until she breaks. And when I do, I break completely. I'm talking about one night of bad decisions, all leading to a my-world-will-never-be-the-same kind of moment. A moment where I need Mason more than ever. True to form, though, he's running.
But I intend to go with him this time. I'm willing to leave my money, my family, my friends behind for this one last chance to see if he could ever really love me the way I deserve to be loved. I'm willing to sacrifice forever if it means one real moment with him.
Each book in the Fairhope series can stand-alone, but you'll see updates on your favorite characters throughout each book, so read them in order to get the most out of the series!
This is a full-length novel of 80,000 words. **Due to sexual content, this book is best suited to readers 16+**
Imagine that the guy you LOVED and worshiped for years wants to have a secret relationship with you. Yes you heard me right... Secret relationship.
Now the same guy will have sex with you one night and show up and YOUR boat party (yes you have a boat!) with another girl the next night. What do you do?
Do you kick his ass out of the boat and gain some self respect? NO, you just have sex with him again... Because how can you resist him?
And what does the guy do? He leaves his date to have sex with you and returns back to her.
All this happened in the first few chapters..
I HATED this book...
I truly hated the character if Mason and I wanted to bitch Slap whats her face so many times.
----------------------------------------------
Liked it, but it's not a reading unforgettable! Common and predictable story. Girl loves boy. He doesn't want to commit ... He does everything so she let go of him, even after making love to her, the other day he went out with other women. And he does not hide this from her, she suffers a lot from the lack of respect and consideration. She begins drinking heavily and doing a lot of crazy things. He keeps popping up in places where she is with a different woman every time. After an accident, the two are close again. Several events take place after the accident. She's hiding things from him and he's hiding things from her. When the truth comes out the two are separated, but discover that they love each other. The story's end, which is a relief. I'm sick of these series with cliffhanger.
I actually love the unrequited love/friend to lovers trope. Every time I read a blurb of a book that has this type of story line, I would, in a heartbeat, read them. The first half was okay. Yes, it was crazy and Mason was an ass and Penny was a bit of a doormat when it came to him but I totally enjoyed the craziness.
Then the second half happened. The story sort of lost me the moment After that, the craziness just kept piling on. The twists and the turns were kinda hard to keep up. Now, I don't mind the many twists and turns but the thing is each event should be allowed to settle first in order for me to feel its impact or at the very least, I want the characters to feel its impact. This book just keeps hitting you with it and I got deprived of reading about each the development of these characters, which was a shame. They ended up being shallow to the point of almost being caricatures.
But my biggest problem with this book is not the craziness but the fact that I never felt that Mason truly loved or even liked Penny. I wasn't convinced of their romance. I really felt that Mason could care less about Penny. It was too one-sided for me. I couldn't find a spark between them. Sorry.

I liked this book, the whole unrequited love thing at the beginning. I totally understood Pen, the beginning was intense and you can really feel her pain and emotions for Mason. This book is about Penny who is in love with Mason almost her whole life and they have been hooking up for the past year but he told her that he doesn't want anything more so he flaunts numerous girl in front of her to keep her at arm's length and to show her he wants only sex from her but she doesn't give up and she tries and tries although he keeps breaking her heart over and over again.
"There’s a part of me that hates myself for allowing him to hurt me over and over again. I want to be the kind of girl who stands up for myself and takes the high road, but when he looks at me like that with those green eyes, his dark blond hair slightly longer than normal and messy on top, I can’t deny him. He’s my addiction. "
I liked that Penny knew what she wanted and wouldn't back off no matter what but at the same time I wished she was a more stronger character. No matter how many times Mason told her that nothing will happen between them and no matter how many times he hurt her, she always forgave him. I just wished she had more pride and self-love.
"Leigh Anne crumples the tag. “The dress is great, but it’s the girl wearing the dress that’s special. You need to learn to see that for yourself or you’re never going to be happy.”
So after a minor car accident, Penny found out she was pregnant and after Mason declared he was leaving town for a few months to go traveling, she persuades him to let her come with him without telling him about the pregnancy.
“I want you to give this one real chance,” I say, my heart aching with need. My eyes search his. “I want you to take me with you. Be with me and only me. Let’s leave all our money, all our distractions behind. Let’s explore each other and see if there’s something real here. Something that could last. And if there’s not, I’ll let you walk away. I swear. I’ll never ask anything from you ever again. I won’t get mad and drive off in your car. I won’t try to kiss you or call you or manipulate you. If at the end of this, you don’t want to be with me, I’ll let you go.”
He agrees and on this trip finally Mason's real feelings are revealed and the reason why he always pushed her away.I find him a little bit weak, but his reason was totally unexpected and when he finally came out and confessed his feelings, I was totally swooning *wink.
"I realize as I hold him that the walls he’s always put between us are higher and thicker than I ever imagined. All this time I thought he was putting those walls up to keep me out, but in this moment, I see that what he was really doing was hiding his own broken heart. "
“I love you, Penny,” he says, his eyes shining. “I know it took me a long time to get here, and I know I’ve hurt you in the past. I’m sure I don’t deserve you, but I promise I’m going to love you with all that I am for the rest of my life.”
Overall, it was a good read, It kept me interested and glued to my laptop but I think that the end was a bit rushed. It felt kind of unfinished, the relationship between Penny and her parents, Penny and Mason didn't really talked after the big secret was revealed and it wasn't mentioned what happened next to Mason and his family.
But all things considered, it was a really nice read :) Sarra well done! I'm looking forward to Jenny's story!
*I received a copy of the book free in exchange for an honest review.
Seriously if you think you want to read about jerks believe me even then you Don't want to read this... NO Also what was this about the hero being best friends with her twin? I didn't see a single dialogue between the two, and where were the protective brotherly instincts of the Twin when the heroine was getting emotionally abused by the hero? where??!
I gave this one 2 stars because i do not like giving any book 1 star, and also for the whole angsty- Dramatic-suspenseful feel of the story.
I really enjoyed reading this book. This is turning out to be a really good series. I love it that you get updates on past characters in this series. You see how Leigh Ann & Knox relationship has progressed. I will definitely read more from this series and author. This book is about Penny & Mason. Penny is the daughter of a well known billionaire in Fairhope. She’s not your typical stuck up rich girl. She actually has a good heart and cares for others and wants to make a difference. She’s not as shallow as you would think a rich spoil girl would be. She has had a school girl crush for her twin brother’s BFF, Mason, for years.
Mason doesn’t do relationship, he does casual hookups. He tries to put up this façade of the rich, playboy that doesn’t settle down but you soon find out that he’s really a good guy. He knows Penny has more than friendly feelings for him and he’s made it clear to her that he doesn’t see anything beyond “friends with benefits”. They don’t tell their friends of their arrangement. Penny can’t help but develop deeper feelings for him after they decided to go forth with their secret arrangement. Mason thinks he’s bad for Penny.
I liked it when Penny put her foot down and decided to show Mason what he’s missing. That causes Mason to come out confess his true feelings for her. So when things get a little sticky Mason decides to go on a road trip to get his head on straight but Penny has plans of her own. She decides to join him on this journey and vows that if after the trip he doesn’t have any true feelings for her then he can walk away no questions asked.
I enjoyed the fact that this was a believable story. My only complaint was I wished the epilogue was a bit longer, but with how this series is written where you get a little insight of the past characters in future books I didn’t get too disappointed with that aspect of the book.

Penny Wright has always loved her brothers best friend Mason Trent since she could remember. Over the past year their relationship has evolved into something very physical, but Penny wants more. She wants a relationship with Mason, a real one. Mason doesn't though and constantly pushes her away.
After an accident Mason decides he needs to get away from their little town and Penny decides to go with him. Over the next month the two grow closer and learn a lot about each other. However, family secrets and unplanned events threaten to shatter their already rocky commitment.

I enjoyed this book! I was fortunate to read the first one before it was release and I'm so happy to have been able to read this one as well. I love that the author checks us in to Leigh Ann and Knox's relationship as well and lets us know what's going on with them.
The story overall was really good! I wasn'y expecting the ending either so that's always a plus.
The only thing is I felt like the end was a bit rushed. I get it the whole thing is about their adventure, but then the big climax happens and there is maybe three chapters left. The epilogue didn't help either because I'm left wondering
Sarra has done it again! I loved this book as much as the first one in this series, even though they can be read as stand a lones...
Pen has loved Mason for years! However, she is getting tired of seeing him in the arms of other women after he shares her bed! She doesn't know what to do to make him want her and only her... She is tired of the life she is living. She wants him, not the life that her mother wants for her or another rich man set up date to go on with some snotty guy. She wants Mason and only him... but can she have him?
Mason truly cares about Pen, but will not let his heart get ripped open again! If you open your heart then it gets broken and taken away.. so he keeps it shut, despite his deep feelings for Pen. However, when he thinks of going away for a few months is going to make him forget about her.. think again! She shows up and wants to go along on this trip.. but what she offers sounds too good to be true? Can he let her go at the end of the trip or will it become more??
What a wonderful story focusing on these 2 people who have always wanted each other. It was nice to see the other characters from book 1 as well and look forward to reading more about them in the next book!
Well done, Sarra on the 2nd book in this series! I loved this book just as much as the first! I enjoyed the love, angst, shock and so much more in this book! :) :)

Penny Wright has been pining after her brothers best friend Mason Trent for years. One year ago, he finally gave into her and they've been secretly hooking up behind closed doors but every weekend he has a different girl on his arm and Penny just can't take it anymore. One tragic night that sends their lives spiraling - Penny ends up in the hospital and Mason is packing for a road trip. Penny can't lose him now so she decides to show up that morning and go with him. They have a fabulous trip together getting back to the basics and finding out for themselves who they really want to be without the fame and fortune of the family name. When Penny ends up back in her hometown she realizes she made the wrong choice again and doesn't know how to fix it this time ... What an incredible story - I loved the characters, the storyline, the growth of Penny and Mason as individuals and as a couple. The writing was superb and I can't wait to read more about this crew in this series. I'm hoping Preston will eventually get his book.
Let me just say, I wasn't a fan of the first book. This one was much better. I actually cried along with Penny. Her love for Mason was strong. After years of hooking up, Penny is sick of being strung along. She decides to join him on a road trip to find out once and for all if Mason is the one for her. This is a wonderful storyline that involves character who grow from the beginning. Penny starts out as your typical rich girl, but she is so much more. The writing is much better in this book than the first one as well and I can't wait until the next one!
Mason and Penny's story is heartbreaking and beautiful to read. Having all the money in the world you'd think you would be happy, not if you can't have the one thing you want the most. Money definitely can't buy love! The struggle and torment Penny goes through in order for Mason to acknowledge that they have something special puts her through a ringer that's for sure! At least this was a happy ending kind of story. But at times I wanted to strangle Mason and smack Penny because at time it was just to much of push and pull.
I haven't read the first book in this series yet. But this is a really good read. It's about a girl from a rich family, who runs away with a bloke she's been in love with forever. They reveal secrets with each other and when Penny's parents find out, everything goes down hill. This is a story about not taking things for granted, and for Penny to see what it's like to be on the other side of rich, by camping and meeting genuine working class people.
Sometimes you can't help who you love. In the case of Penny, she's loved Mason for what seems like forever. Mason doesn't love her. They spend nights together but then he's with a different girl two days later.
Some men are mean't to break our hearts. It's how we cope with it after that builds us into the people we are now.
I was excited to continue Cannon's Fairhope series. I really enjoyed the first book so my intrigue wanted to know how Penny and Mason's relationship would pan out. I think Sarra has done a great job of leaping from YA to NA. Her writing is still very very good and reaches new climbs that she wouldn't have been able to get to in YA.
Unfortunately I wasn't enamoured with this story. I enjoyed it to a certain extent. I had hopes for a fun, diverse road trip but it panned out to be a little too safe.
The first thing that I really enjoyed when reading about Penny's growth of character was when she decided to help Delores gain more financial stability with regards to the diner. This showed all of us that Penny was bright, courageous for sticking her neck out, and was definitely a brain with many talents. I thought this would be the way of the story and as Mason and Penny drive a swarth along their map into the unknown, Penny would reach out and help people along the way and learn that not everything profits even if you throw money at it. In this scenario her parents would hear of her great adventures and the good she was doing for ordinary people. She would be redeemed.
Sadly it didn't even get this far. Even more sadly an incident regarding Mason and the girl under the pier happened and I felt misguided.
The story turned sallow, selfish, and a little too blinkered. As we reached the end Penny ended up being someone who runs a charity and does exactly what her parents had been doing all along i.e. funding charities and holding events. None of the Penny with a brilliant brain and an eye for turning businesses around stuck with her. In my honest opinion the author did Penny a discredit but I did like how Mason turned out. As a character he did show his merit.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series so it was without hesitation that I picked up the second book and dove right on.
Can I say before I even get started that I loved that Leigh Ann played such a big role in this as friend to Penny? Because I really did. I loved seeing glimpses of where she and Knox where with their relationship, I really do love it when an author can have each book in a series be a stand alone but still give you those much needed, much appreciated glimpses of past loved characters.
I really liked Penny. She was a smart, head strong girl that knew what she wanted and never gave up on it, when honestly, there were numerous times that she should have.
Mason. Hmm Mason. I wasn't sure if I was ever truly going to love this boy. He was so hot and cold and up and down. He hurt Penny over and over again and it was hard to forgive him for it but eventually, his better side came out and it wasn't hard to see what Penny saw in him.
Overall this was exactly what I was hoping it would be. One of those stores about two people coming together to become something great because they have each other. Those that are willing to forgive and look past all the flaws to see the wonderful underneath.
I know this trope is done often in NA but it really is one that I will never grow tired of when it is done well and it was done well in this second installment in the Fairhope series. I really look forward to the next book.
It was an okay read for me. The first page was interesting and intense. The story is about Pen who's been in love with Mason all her life.. they hook up all the time but she doesn't have any hold on him. He was pretty clear that all he wanted was sex and she agreed on this... but every time she sees him with other girls it hurts for her and you can actually feel her pain and insecurities.
I like the whole unrequited love, heroine suffering because of the hero story but I'm giving this a 3.5 stars mainly because I had some issues with the characters. I didn't care much for the heroine, she was okay but I didn't feel any connection with her. Mason was a jerk.. I don't hate him but he came off as a weak hero. I both like Mason and Pen when they're together but I didn't feel a huge spark between them. I feel no chemistry. :/ The story is a little choppy for me. One moment I feel like I couldn't put it down but then there were parts that it became boring I feel like skipping few pages.
Overall, I like it but not in love with it! But despite my little issues I'm interested to read Jenna's story!
This one was actually pretty decent. I was in the dark until the author chose to shed the light on Mason's deal. His reasons for not committing were unexpected. Will probably read more from this author in the future.
Thanks for ARC Netgalley the book was really great. i wasnt expecting to like it so much. Its my first book from author and i enjoy it. The only reason i gave it 4 stars because i would have like dual POV and there was a little section were it got slow.
Wow! I wasn't sure with this book... Even though I loved "The trouble with goodbye". It suprises me in the best way. Magical. It was Magical. Makes me want to go camping again !!!

"In that moment, nothing stands between us. No more lies. No more walls. All our past mistakes are erased. We've been given a precious gift. A chance to start over. To take nothing for granted. And in that moment, we began."-Penny
In the first book of the series, The Trouble With Goodbye, the heroine in the story was deprived of a voice by being prevented from speaking about what tragically happened to her. In this companion novel, the heroine is deprived of living her life by not being able to experience life on her own terms. The Moment We Began is a wonderful book about self-discovery. Specifically about finding yourself after being told who and what you are your entire life. And finally finding the courage to break the shackles that constrained your life and stepping into the unknown. A life where there is no clear path but where the next step is completely your own.
"I don't want to have to pretend I'm not wanting him every single second of every day. I don't want to have to laugh at his stupid jokes and pretend I'm not happy when he's with someone else. I just want to be the one he's kissing."-Penny
PENNY
When I first met Penny in The Trouble With Goodbye, I'll be honest, I didn't really like her. She came off as a know it all rich girl who thought she was better than everyone else. But after reading her story, I definitely changed my mind about her. She's actually a beautiful girl with a hear to match. Though she was born into a family with money, she tries to do what she can to help her community. Thats the side of her that some of her friends and family don't get to see. They don't see the girl who pays for surgeries and treatments for sick babies when their parents can't afford them. They don't see the girl who donates money to the homeless shelter and families in need. All they see is a princess; a girl who always gets her way and can afford to go and buy anything her heart desires. Through this facade, they also fail to see that beneath all the shoes, clothes, and expensive cars lies a self conscience girl who lets herself be used for sex by Mason, the guy she's been in love with all her life, just because he can't do relationships. So she takes whatever she can get from him. She lets this go on for a while until she's finally had enough and decides to try to move on. But soon her world gets turned upside down with a life altering discovery and Mason's decision to get out of Fairhope for a while. She sees an opportunity to finally find out if there's a future with him or if she's to walk this new direction her life has taken alone and so she decides to go with him on his road trip. A road trip where she'll discover that she and Mason may have more in common than she thought. And that behind that handsome exterior lies a lonely guy whose heart is plagued by sadness and guilt from the secrets he keeps.
"All this time I thought he was putting those walls up to keep me out, but in this moment, I see that what he was really doing was hiding his own broken heart."-Penny
"Money doesn't always open the world up to you. Money can be a straight-jacket sometimes, too. This is something people don't always realize. They think that because we have money, we're lucky and free. But sometimes the money is what ties us down."-Mason
MASON
Mason, unlike Penny, wasn't born into money. It wasn't until his father started working for Penny's father that his family become one of the richest families in town. Though they had a different upbringing, like Penny, his life was not his own. Once the money started rolling in, so did the expectations. He was expected to be someone he wasn't so he played the role of rich playboy because that's who he was expected to be. And he played it well. He became the best friend of the richest family in town, attended wild parties, drank lots of booze, and slept with many girls. Though most of this is due to the control status had on his life, his lack of commitment to one girl comes from his past. One that's filled with both joy and sorrow. A past that stained his heart and changed him forever. Caused him to be afraid of trusting someone with his heart because of the pain that may come from it. This is the reason why he doesn't let himself act on his feelings for Penny and flaunts different girls in front of her to hopefully make her angry and finally move on. He keeps his past a secret from his friends but he also holds another secret. One that not even his family knows and one that may cause pain to those he cares about most. As this secret is in danger of being unraveled, he decides that its time to go on the road trip he's been thinking about going on for a while. The road trip that will change everything for these two lovers. Where secrets will be revealed and difficult decisions about the future will be made. And with the help of a little miracle, a happily ever after seems more of a reality than ever before.
"Penny, you're the only thing in this world that matters to me. You and this baby. I love you with every once of my soul and I promise, if you give me another chance, I will never hurt you again."-Mason
Overall, this book was not only non-stop page turning material but also thought provoking. Where not only the two main characters in the book learn about life but also the reader can learn a little thing or two. For me, its how money and possessions can control our lives and make us greedy. We start buying the newest things around and flaunt them just to show that we have them and can afford them. I'm not afraid to say that I'm guilty of this but my views have definitely changed. I now see that there's no point in doing this. Not only will you be one step closer to financial ruin but what kind of impression are you leaving behind? I'd rather be seen as the person I truly am than someone flashy and snobby. This book is one that I would recommend to those looking for a romance book with a mix of betrayal, road trips, life lessons, happy endings, and all kinds of swoony material.
"I had always thought that if you stripped away the money and the jewelry and the expensive clothes and the fancy cars, I would be nothing more than a hollow shell. But on this trip, I realized that those other things are the shell. The money and the name doesn't make me who I am. It never has."-Penny
Other Favorite Quotes:
"I'm powerless when it comes to Mason. I want him any way I can get him. Even if it means my heart will break a thousand times. I know when he kisses me again, he'll put it back together."-Penny
"I know it sounds stupid, but I think that's why I never really let myself love anyone completely," he says. "It hurts too damn much when you have to say goodbye." - Mason
From the first chapter I felt her pain. I felt the magnitude of the love she carried for this guy who wouldn't love her back. Where the love she had for him was intense and the heartache was equally amplified . Every time she tried to push, he pulled back. Omg the utter torture.🙄 He kept sending her mixed signals. It was frustrating because part of me wanted her to let him go and move on but between all the sexual tension and the all consuming kissing, oh boy I'm left breatheless.😏 I understood why she couldn't. Her life was heading in new directions and she wanted one last chance to see if there was something truly there or if she needed to walk away from him once and for all.
When they were together, it was magical, adventurous and above all real.🗺 We got to know Mason and why he is the way he is. Why he kept her at arms length. It made it impossible for me not to love him right then and there. But Like Penelope, he carries his own secrets, some that might ruin the blossoming relationship between them. Just when I thought she couldn't go through any more devastation. She experiences something so huge that it could leave her permanently broken. Damn. Once I started crying I couldn't stop.😖 You go through this split second moment where you wonder how things will go from here. If things can be resolved. Both of them made choices, had their fair share of mistakes and regrets. Beyond anything else they overcame those obstacles and realized they needed each other.
No matter what I rooted for Mason, I knew he wouldnt disappoint me! I was like "Omg, Yes Mason! You bulldoze through every last person until you get to the woman you love."😍 I swear my kindle almost slipped through my grasp when I screamed for joy. I placed my hand over my heart and tried to regain my composure. I didn't want the story to ever end. I want to be there for the next phase in their lives. These characters, their love, experiences, memories, the people they met along the way, their journey was one that made me believe in it all, hope, strength and love.❤️
Heiress, Penelope 'Penny' has lots of friends or does she, when she gets into trouble will show her who her real friends are bad who only sees her as a party and a bank. Her heart will always lye with Mason, her brother's best friend, they grow up together since Mason came into town. Mason is broken in heart and soul so he can't love anyone because he is terrified Tue women he gives his heart to will leave him, his past will make your cry. Hence why he tried his damnest to keep Penny at a distance even by killing her heart when he sleeps with her at night and shows up to her parties with some women. Penny's parents are the richest in Alabama and the love to keep her on a leash. Her only rock his her twin brother Preston. Can a daughter of a bazillion handle 'roughing it's in a tent with a fire pit and chopped wood and some running water and no electricity or cell phones with Mason when he needs to get out of town and away from her but she is stubborn and Penny will always get the man she wants even if it involves....
I don't know why I can't fully enjoy Sarra Cannon's Fairhope series. Maybe I have outgrown them. I don't want to sound like the moral police or so, but if a couple has careless intercourse, especially when one party is showing up each weekend with a different date, than protection should be your first and formost thought. Of course, everybody is allowed mistakes but I would have liked a bit more “fuss” about it by the author. This is the story of Penny, the spoiled girl with the heart of gold in the golden cage, and Mason who sets a cage by building walls around himself. They both find a way out of it of course. I also had a hard time connecting to Penny. She is rich and likes it and does charity work for kids, while at the same time has no clue about the world. And Mason? I don't know if he would have redeemed himself in my books... Still, the writing style is very good and fluent and I couldn't put the book down till I was finished.
Penny Wright has loved Mason Trent for years. He is her twin brothers best friend and, as a result, also a close friend of hers. When things between them shift to friends with benefits territory, she is sure she can handle it. Having part of him is better than none, right? Until she sees him with other women, which breaks her heart. Now, after too many months of torment, she is determined to win him over, to have him all to herself, no more sharing...and she is willing to do whatever necessary to make it happen.
Penny was a character that instantly got on my nerves and it doesn't really improve throughout the novel. She has some growth, but I had a hard time believe anything she did that didn't fit into my mental image of her. On page 1, she is a spoiled rich girl with little care for anything besides her brother and winning over Mason. After that point, we get to see various other talents and interests, but they just didn't quite match my grasp of the character. My grasp could have been way off, but it is still how I felt. Every time she'd give a business suggestion or do something seemingly nice, I felt like it was the author trying to give us a reason to sympathize with Penny instead of hate her and it didn't work for me. I have a hard time giving sympathy to...this is going to sound so bad, but to the poor little rich girl dramas. Money can't buy everything, boohoohoo. As any bookworm can tell you, money can't buy happiness, but it can buy books and that's really the same thing. I realize there are a lot of problems money can't solve, but when this brat is given everything she could possibly want or need and she still has the need to complain about everything? She eventually gets a $100 spending limit and goes ballistic. Mommy and Daddy cover everything from the roof over her head to her food and college tuition and now she can only spend $100 a week on extra?!? Who could possibly get by on that paltry amount?
After this point, I can't sympathize any at all. Sorry chica, but you get nothing from me by irritation and anger. Then she finds out that she has done irresponsible things and now has to deal with a very big consequence and goes nuts. Beyond the irritation at the rich snob, I also have no sympathy for those people who put themselves in the situation she is in. Mason makes it perfectly clear that he doesn't want a relationship with her and yet she sits pining away and allowing him to use her body. Have some goddamn self-respect woman! And she goes on and on about how she is an adult and should be treated as such but then acts so immature and irresponsible that it's no wonder her parents want to control her. Sorry, but you're an idiot who apparently doesn't know any better.
Then we have Mason. This "dreamboat" is suppose to inspire me to swoon, but really, I don't like him much more than Penny. Selfish and stupid and just plain cruel and I'm supposed to buy that he loved her all along? Sorry, but no. He's been too much of a jackass to forgive. Either that or he is the retarded level of blind. Either way, it induces no love from me.
Plot and writing-wise, this was fine. Okay, writing-wise, it was fine. Because these two were morons that I couldn't care much about I had a hard time to loving their story...it felt a bit too easy. Boy + Girl + Drama + Running away + More Drama = Happily Ever After? Yeah, I'm not sure I can get behind that.
This is one of those reviews I hate to write. I wholly enjoyed Sarra's Beautiful Demons novel (yes, Kandice, I know I need to finish that series) and I really want to read the rest of that and her other works, but this just wasn't the novel for me. It gets 3 stars because the writing was good and I think if the characters were different, I would have enjoyed it, but Penny just wasn't someone I could love.
I've harped endlessly about the importance of characters for me. Good or bad characters maker or break novels for me. I can love a novel that has horrible writing if it has characters I can really get behind or hate a novel with amazing writing if it has characters I can't stand. This falls pretty close to that. I wouldn't say I hated Penny and Mason, but they did irritate me a great deal. That being said, I still want to go back and read the first novel in this series and I would be interested in trying the next one. I refuse to let this one dud tarnish my joy for Sarra's other works.
****Thank you to All Night Reads for providing me with an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review****
At first I wasn't sure how to rate this book. The view I had of Penny from Sarra's previous book was a bit sketchy. I wasn't even sure I liked her. But as the story progresses, you go back to old crushes and heart breaks and remember that desperate feeling she feels. She's not overly dramatic, but drama follows her anyway. I like her determination and resounding love through this whole story. How her mistakes are learnt quick and how she moves forward. I rate this book 5 stars because Sarra brings the emotions into the story with a nice depth.
I’m trying to be gentle here. But this is a 21 year old woman, who is pregnant, traipsing around the country, takes a fall, starts spotting, but decided she won’t seek medical attention. Why? Because she doesn’t want to tell the H she’s pregnant, not until he loves her. I just cannot fathom being pregnant and weighing up my baby against something so stupid.
We also get no resolutions with the parents. Is mason still up for jail? It’s like the book spent too much time dallying around camping then ran out of steam by the end, and couldn’t be bothered wrapping things up.
The h lacks backbone. How can you be in love with a guy who doesn't respect your feelings and treats you like dirt overall?
You are in a secret relationship with a guy for a year, he brings a girl as his date and yet, you still sleep with him? I'm all for the unrequited love trope, but most of all I want my characters to have some goddamn self-respect!
Got this book as an add-on to the first in the series. The first book was much better then this one. Very cheesy. Penny keeps going on and on about how she is judged because of her money- but then that usually follows with her doign something stupid about money. I just found this book pretty shallow.... but I kept reading it so for that reason I gave it one extra star
