Can two hearts be forged into one?

Cami Montgomery stole a car and smashed it into the front of a building in upscale Beverly Hills after a lousy date with the epitome of sleaze balls. The worst part, her parents are following through on threats after this latest plea for attention. Banished from her L.A. paradise and plunged into the Appalachian Mountains with her industrious aunt and uncle, Cami is about to find out how precious life really is.

Stockton Wright has been thrust into a hard life. He sacrifices everything to give his family and community what they need. He’s exhausted from life and work—and he’s only twenty four. What he needs is some change, and some sunshine. Even he will agree to that. He just doesn’t expect to find it in a stuck up, pompous, entitled Californian.

Cami bursts into Stockton’s life like wildfire, consuming all his thoughts and tangling him in her web. What starts out as a contentious rivalry evolves into a desire neither of them expected. When hammer meets metal, will they crack under pressure or be forged as one?

Cami and Stockton might just end up being exactly what the other one needs, but first their love will have to be drawn out in fire.

Lila Felix is full of antics and stories. She refused to go to Kindergarten after the teacher made her take a nap on the first day of school. She staged her first protest in middle school. She almost flunked out of her first semester at Pepperdine University because she was enthralled with their library and frequently was locked in. Now her husband and three children have to put up with her rebel nature in Louisiana where her days are filled with cypress trees, crawfish, and of course her books and writing. She writes about the ordinary people who fall extraordinarily in wild, true love.

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing.

Two of my fav authors worked together to make an awesome book.

Rachel was the female voice and Lila was the male, which she's incredibly good at. It flowed great, the romance was awesome and swoony, the fighting was realistic and heartbreaking, the tears I cried were real and I felt for these characters so much. Their family was awesome, too. It was all my favorite things and I even found myself going back and re-reading the part where they caved for each other all over again. It was that good. I'm still thinking about it.

6 out of 5 stars.

3.5 stars. Very sweet book. It started off with Cami, spoiled rich L.A. girl. Reminded me a little of a tame younger Paris Hilton. I thought it was a little like VAIN, by Fisher Amelie. It soon, turned into its own story.
After her most recent careless escapade, Cami is sent off to her Aunt & Uncle's rural Tennessee farm to get some tough love. She is so horrified that she pleads & begs to go to rehab- although there is no noted addiction other than being annoying to her cold fish parents. I was worried that she would keep up the brat attitude, but she soon conforms to her task-master aunt & uncle. I started to feel sorry for her- a little. Cami meets Stockton, her aunt & uncle's neighbor. Cami & Stockton immediately have very good chemistry. Stockton is about the same age as Cami. He acts much more mature, since he has left college to come back home to raise his teen age sister after their parents die. The POV is alternating 1st person Cami & then Stockton.
There are some minor editing issues- spelling & also the POV chapter headings were mixed up a couple of times.
It is a very sweet story. Cami shows a lot of growth- which was very necessary. Stockton is kind of gruff but Cami does seem to be good for him too. If you are looking for a book with a lot of steam- this isn't it.
The romance is very sweet and chaste.
I am happy that I read it. For my book friends- I recommend this book to your young teen daughters- maybe as young as 12 or 13 yrs.

**An ARC was kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review**

I have read many books by Lila Felix but I have never read anything by Rachel Higginson, so when I got the honor of being able to read the joint venture, I jumped all over the chance. I LOVE Lila's books and I will have to say that I am now going to have to check out other books by Rachel Higginson. These two ladies really know how to write an amazing book. I loved that it was dual POV. I think a book is always better when we get to read both sides of the story. This story was a great love story between two people who have nothing in common at first but over time realize they are more alike then they even knew. This was a fairly quick and clean read. I was kept interested from the beginning to the end.

I will say that I loved both Stockton and Cami throughout the whole book. Cami was such a strong character and I loved how she didn't put up with anyone's crap. Cami was a slightly broken and misguided girl who just needed to find the right people to point her in the correct direction. Her Parents and sister were just horrible to her and really didn't help in her bad behavior. I think the best thing for her was being sent to live with her Aunt and Uncle. I didn't like her aunt and uncle in the beginning....they never really seemed to give Cami a fair chance and had preconceived ideas of who she was before she even got there. I was glad to see that change as the story continued. Also being sent to her aunt and uncles gave her the chance to meet Stockton and Willa (Stockton's sister) Willa was such a great character, I think she was so sweet and a great friend to Cami. Now I will say that I didn't like Stockton in the beginning. He was kind of a jerk but he did eventually grow on me and got under my skin. By the end I was totally swooning over him. He too was slightly broken, he carried around a lot of guilt when it came to his parents. I was really glad to see that Cami was able to break him of his hard outer shell and open him up to the caring and lovable guy he is.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet and clean love story between two people who shouldn't be together but in the end learn to make it work. Also if you are a fan of either Lila Felix or Rachel Higginson, you need to read this book. I really hope that we see more books from these two ladies in the future.

4.5 Stars.

"I was twenty-one and exhausted with this life. Bored to the point of destructive, Cynical to the point of apathetic. Exhausted to the point of...who cares? I didn't. I didn't care anymore."
--Lila Felix and Rachel Higginson, Striking.

That is Cami when this story starts. She has some growing up to do; and the mountains of Constance, Tennessee are going to attempt to help her to do just that. Those and her Aunt and Uncle, and of course, Stockton (love his name, btw). Cami also helps Stockton with a few of his demons too.

This is a quick, adorable read. I love a good romance between two people who couldn't seem more wrong for each other. I love to see them make it work despite their differences. For me, this story was just that.

**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review**

I could never dislike a book by Rachel Higginson. I think it's impossible for me to. And I've been meaning to read some of Lila's work for quite some time now, so this book was an easy read for me. I was more than willing to read it and claim it as one of my favorites.

I'm gonna confess right away that this isn't one of my favorite reads of all time.

Come on, that's a difficult place to get to. Especially with a picky reader like me, i.e. my 2012 stats: 71 books read, only 4 received 5 stars. I take my ratings way too seriously.

But I really really did enjoy this book. It wasn't the bestest book ever, but I really thought it was fun to read and I would definitely read it again.

The thing I loved most about this book was the fact that I could totally relate to Cami - which is baffling because where she is obsessed with designer brands and the finer things in life, I couldn't care less and I'd actually prefer to scoff at her desire for material things.

You see...Cami is kinda floundering around in life. She's bored and she's not doing much with her time. And though I rarely get bored, Cami and I have something in common...we both want to figure out our lives, actually do something for once, but for our own idiocy and stubborn will we don't give ourselves the chance.

As Cami said...

If I were a better person I could probably see the need to grow up a little bit, to settle down as my father always begged me, to have some drive in my life as my mother preferred to lecture. But I was not a better person, not did I have any aspirations to be one.

When Cami ends up stealing her date's car and crashing it into a store, her parents have finally had enough. They send her to her aunt and uncle's house in Tennessee in hopes that she will learn from her mistakes and desire to change.

What Cami doesn't know is that there is a certain boy out there that she is destined to meet. Someone that can challenge her and make her want to be that better person she always knew she could be. And boy does she want to be the better person and show them all just how good she can be.

I didn't get it down here. I knew I was a screw-up. I'd been living that whole cliche my entire life, but for the first time in my whole insipid existence, I was freaking trying. But nothing was good enough - not for my parents, not for my aunt and uncle and not for the god among men, Stockton Wright.

Now let me just put my thoughts out there about Stockton Wright...he really is such a good man that...Arg! He's one of those people who is so good that you cringe at how horrible you are in comparison. You know what I mean??

His parents are dead so he takes care of his siblings. He works like crazy for not only his family but for all the other families in town. His life is like doing charity work 24/7 for anybody he can. It's amazing and beautiful and intimidating all at the same time. I don't for one second argue Cami's words when she calls him a "god among men" because he really is so wonderful.

So then why do I find him apologizing and making up excuses to Cami all the time? She's just as much at fault (or arguably more at fault), but with the way Stockton's always apologizing you'd think he was the messed up one and not her.

"You told me I need to be a great man to be good enough for you, Duchess. And I agree with that. I might not be one yet, but I'm too selfish to wait. And I will be, Cami. One day I will be. You have my word. You want a great man? Then I will become one or die trying. I will give you everything you want, everything you need and I will spend a lifetime making sure you feel every ounce of love I feel for you."

Aw, I mean it really is sweet of him to say all of that. But when I read this I was yelling at Stockton that he didn't need to say any of those things because he already was a great man. He just couldn't see it because he was too humble and Cami...I don't even understand why her brain thought he wasn't good enough for her. He was definitely good enough for her.

Something you might have mentioned in the quote above from Stockton...he called Cami a duchess.

Pet names are really a hit or miss. Either they are sweet and endearing, or the are annoying and a constant turn-off.

I thought at first that it was kinda cute. He called her Duchess and she called him Hillbilly. It was like stating the facts, making sure the other person knew that they had every understanding of exactly who they were talking to. He recognized her as a spoiled little princess from L.A. and she saw him for the blacksmith, Southern man that he was.

But after time had passed and they grew closer, the pet name Duchess wasn't dropped and it started to grate me the wrong way. The girl has a name. It's Cami. Use it.

Ahem. That wasn't meant to sound rude. I'm just very particular when it comes to pet names.

Anyway, I loved the growth in Cami's character. Seeing her change and grow made me happy and was the highlight of the book for me.

Oh, and Stockton too. There's actually this horribly good-looking picture of this guy "blacksmithing" or whatever that Rachel drew my attention to, and for some disturbing reason my brain would flash to that pic whenever I read about Stockton hammering away at his metals. So...thanks for that? I feel like a dirty girl for looking at that picture. But it sure did make me like Stockton even more. As if his good deeds and love weren't enough he had to have an amazing body to go with it.

After being banished to Redneck Rehab with her Aunt and Uncle, Cami soon realizes she has a lot of growing up to do. But one look at Stockton and it seems life in Hickville might not be so bad. But will his ghosts be too much for Cami to compete with? This is not only Cami's journey to self-discovery...but Stockton's as well. Both have a past that need to be battled. Both have a chemistry that is undeniable. Both will find solace in one another.

I wasn't sure what to think of 2 of my favorite authors coming together and creating a story I would like, let alone love. Sure I adore their individual work. In fact, I drop everything for Lila and when Rachel releases her zombie series, well, it is an absolute must buy the minute it goes live. But will I be the same? Will I finish the book feeling full and happy like I have before with their other work? Or will it be an entirely different experience leaving me bereft and unfulfilled? Well, I rated this bad boy 5 stars...so what do you think? Alone I find these ladies awesome...together they can take over the world. Or in the very least write a fabulous love story.

The story was beyond whatever expectations I had conjuring up in my mind. And my literary taste buds were brought to fictional love overload with these fantastic characters. How could I not love them? Especially Stockton. From the very first time I was introduced to him, he was one of those guys that stayed tethered to the back of my mind. While reading other books I would find myself wondering what was to happen with him as his story progressed.

Stockton is a hardworking country boy but not exactly redneck. Not that anything is wrong with rednecks...I am related to a few ;)...but I do know that they can be a bit romantically challenged. Among other things. But our boy Stockton, oh boy. Once he gets Cami in his target he is bound and determined to romance the hell out of her. Swooning will be had ladies! But God bless his soul, his life is riddled with the ghosts of his parents and the guilt of their deaths. Cami is going to have her work cut out for her. It won’t be easy to break down the walls Stock has built up over the years. But if anyone can do it, it will be Cami.

Cami is one of those gals you will absolutely fall in love with. From the moment we meet her, it will be an instant love connection with the reader and her. She is hilarious and it just gets funnier when she is brought to her Aunt and Uncle’s place. Poor girl is thrown into the country life and if she isn’t careful it will swallow her whole. Another part of the story I loved was the relationship between her and Willa and thought it was wonderful they had such a great relationship.

There is a lot of hurt surrounding everyone, but together they can work through the pain plaguing each of their lives. This is one story you will not want to miss out on. An absolute must read!

Fav Quotes...

I loved him- with everything that I was. My tiny, black heart had grown into a living, beating organ capable of a feeling that felt greater than me, greater than anything I could be capable of.
Yet here I was, in love with a man that demanded that kind of greatness from me.
And I would willingly spend the rest of my life striving to be that kind of woman for him, to be the woman he needed, the soul-mate he searched for, the other half of his heart.
As long as he let me.
And then his cell phone rang.
Hello, bad timing.

*****

And suddenly there was a gleam where once had only been soot, hope where there had been once only ashes, life when for so long all I could see was death. There was the promise of a life for me with Cami.
And I’d be damned if I let anything get in my way.

4.5 stars -- Beautiful love story wrapped up in a book about characters growing up. I was worried I wasn't going to like Cami, but she really was just a product of her upbringing in some ways. It was a pleasure to watch her grow up and see her own worth and potential. She just needed infinitely better people in her life to let her be who she was deep inside. The thing I always love about Ms. Higginson's heroines is their strength of character. They may have flaws and be broken, but deep down they are so strong, and that inner strength is what helps pull them through...it's not just about finding someone else to make you a better person, it's having them there to help you see what was there all along.

And Stockton....oh hells yes! He was just so sweet and adorable, but with his own set of roadblocks to work through. At times he almost came across as too good to be true, so I was strangely relieved when he epically lost his temper and his own inner struggle came to a head. Perfection is not always so great, so to see more of his flaws was relieving.

Now Stockton and Cami together? That's where this book really shines. They had great chemistry....so much tension it was GAH! But they had such a beautiful and innocent courtship -- exactly what Cami needed. It was definitely a love that saved them both. And I LOVED the squee worthy epilogue HEA at the end....*happy sigh*

I'm intrigued with the other brothers and the stories I know are coming up, but my true love was Will....she really shone, and I hope she gets her own book and HEA.

I knew I'd love Cami just from her sassiness, "somehow I just don't believe you," I smiled sweetly but pinned him with a 'tell the truth you bast***' glare. We were in church after all. Stockton cleared his throat nervously but didn't bother to deny my accusation." Don't worry ladies Stockton has sass in him as well, "you got quite a mouth on you, Duchess," he said slowly, but with no less heat. "Is that why you're down here? Trying to get all that sass outta you?" He's just so damn sexy, "oh, yeah?" he asked in his sexy, low-octave timber. "If you want me to eat lunch with you, Duchess, all you gotta do is ask." Nothing like a sister to mess up your game I hope Willa gets a book, "and then my sister plowed through the screen door, instantly deflating my want and co**blocking me at the same time. "Damn it, Will." I groaned through a clenched jaw at my sister." I loved the caveman side of Stockton, "the note's from Cami, you ogre. She made the plate herself. She also brought it in but you were in the shower." She made it for me? It was probably the homo-cavamanus in my coming out to play, but Cami filling up a plate of food for me to eat made me want to grunt. And beat my chest. And knock her over the head with an avil and drag her to my shop." Stockton likes to utilize his time with Cami, "if I let you out of here," he countered. He pushed me back, using the firm hold he had on each of my hips and my a** bumped up against his work bench. "I like you in my space Cami." I loved this book!

I had this book for some time in my wishlist and was looking forward to reading this book.
Big bummer this book was a huge disappointment. The love was instant, the characters were flat they had no deepness, I have no idea except for the lust why they even liked each other.
Camey is this rich stuck up girl from California she's spoiled and thinks she's entitled to everything in life. Stockton has a hard time , he's the sole caretaker for his sister Will and takes care for his 2 brothers to. These characters would have made a great story if not for the fact that so many conversation were cheesy to perfect to fast. Camey's parents are horrible and stuck up. Her aunt and uncle were not nice at all. Stockton has some slit personality going on, one day he's nice and another day he turns in a ass hole in 2 sec. The big fight was so stupid and senseless.
The cover girl is gorgeous.

More than halfway through the book, it was really good. I loved it. I thought it's going to be amazing. But after 70%, it went too corny. The conversations seemed disconnected from the smooth flow of the story. It just felt unnatural. The chemistry was gone. I just kept rolling my eyes until the end. Too bad. It could have really been so great. I loved Cami. She had sense of humor. Stockton was H.O.T. and he's a blacksmith. I thought everything was really sweet. Their situation in life gravitated them to be together. The story was funny, endearing, and a bit steamy. But that little 30% had ruined it for me. It's unrealistic, ridiculous and too good to be true.

It's a standalone. Would I recommend it?... Probably.

My reveiw:

I had ordered this book a while ago, and never got around to starting it. But now that I have started of I couldn't put it down. Cami was such a troubled person it really broke my heart to read how much her family in LA didn't care much about her. She grew so much during this book it was amazing to sit back and read about her parents and her (In my opinion) stuck up sister.

Ask for Stock, OMG just thinking about him gave me chills. How he was such a gentleman and yet had such a dark past made me wanna wrap him up in a blanket and hug him. okay well, he sounds like he'd break my blanket if I tried. Lol. but all in all I give the book a 5/5 because I enjoyed it so much!

4.5 Amazing
I could not wait to get my hands on this book. I am a big fan of Lila's work and I will admit this is my first book by Rachel Higginson. Together they created an amazing story.

When we first met Cami, to me she was the typical spoiled rich girl, who loved spending her parent's money and only cared about herself. She is on a blind date with some guy that her sister set her up with. She has absolutely no interest in this guy at all. When she sees this date going in a direction that scares her she decides to make a run for it. So she does what any sensible girl would do, she runs out of the restaurant, steals her dates car and crashes it into her mothers store. At this point her parents are fed up with her reckless behavior and decide that the best thing for her is to go live with her aunt and uncle in small town in Tennessee. While staying with her aunt and uncle she is forced to actually do work. Getting dirty and working on a farm is not something Cami thought she would ever have to do. But she needs to take responsibility for her reckless actions and get her life back on track. Then she meets Stockton and things begin to change.

Stockton Wright is all kinds of amazing. He has his own baggage, having lost his parents a few years ago and taking on the responsibility of taking care of the house, the bills, the family business and his siblings. One of them being his teenage sister Willa. Stockton has a lot on his plate and the last thing he needs right now is someone like Cami coming into his life. When he first meets her there is no denying how beautiful she is. But then she opens her mouth and all he sees is the rich spoiled "Dutchess" from California. They are from two different worlds. Cami has never had to work for anything in her life, while Stockton works his ass off trying to provide for his family, and at the same time taking care of the other families in their small town. Cami and Stockton may not get along in the beginning, they may drive each other crazy and they certainly know how to push each others buttons. But what they don't know is that they need each other in a way they never expected.

Cami becomes tired of being treated like she doesn't matter, like she can't do anything right. And she sets out to prove to everyone that she isn't that reckless teenager any more. Cami is determined to turn her life around. She forms a special friendship with Willa, Stockton's sister and I think the friendship with Willa is exactly what Cami needs. But her and Stockton also call a truce and form a friendship, which at some point turns into something more. Stockton sees that there is so much more to Cami once you get beneath the surface. There was a reason for her reckless behavior and it has everything to do with the treatment she received from her parents. You begin to see that Cami didn't need the money and everything that went along with it. She just needed someone to show her that she was loved. And that is exactly what she got when she moved to the mountains.

Stockton is simply amazing. There is simply no other word to describe him. Once he really got to know Cami and see the real her, he started to fall in love with her. And he wanted to do everything he can to get her to fall for him. And he did it the old fashioned way. He had such a sweet romantic side to him that will melt your heart. There were nights when he would just sit outside her window at night talking to her just because he wanted to get to know all of her. It doesn't get any sweeter than that. I loved Cami. Yes she was a little hard to take in the beginning but she completely turned her life around and showed her true self. She has people that loved her and that was all she needed in life.

Cami and Stockton both has a past that they were trying to move on from. Their relationship was anything but perfect. But they loved each other and together they were perfect. Cami came to Tennessee to find herself and to become a better person. In the process she found an amazing man who she fell in love with. A man who needed her just as much as she needed him. Together they found their way. Rachel Higginson and Lila Felix did such an amazing job with this story. Striking is a wonderful story about hurt, love, and finding yourself. A must read for all.

"Our love had gone through fire and forged of the hottest, most hurtful kind. But on the other side our metals had been refined into the strongest halves of each other. It was our love that defined us now. It was the love we would feel for each other every single day moving forward."

First, THANK YOU to Rachel and Lila for giving me the privileged of reading and reviewing Striking before its release!

If you have ever read anything by both of these wonderful ladies you are in for a double treat! Lila and Rachel's storytelling makes for an "oh so sweet" combination! While you fall in love with Lila's, Stockton, you will be rooting for Rachel's,Cami, to finally be loved and acknowledged!

Cami lives her life recklessly. Growing up in a household with a family that doesn't understand her and never tells her they LOVE her, Cami resorts to being a spoiled and reckless Princess. She doesn't care about anything but spending money and spoiling herself rotten with her parents money. So after another of her stunts, which leaves her dates' car in her mother's boutique, she is banished to the mountains with her aunt and uncle. In Tennessee she is forced to take responsibility for her actions as well as WORK. Her greatest nightmare. But Cami's outlook on life does a complete 360 when she realizes that this is her second chance at life.

Tired of being looked down upon and being a total screw up she decides to give "Hickville" a try. Starting with actually having a friend. When she meets Willa they quickly hit it off and become the greatest of friends. Unfortunately, her brother Stockton is another story.

Stockton Wright. What can I say about Stockton that will even come close to showing you how amazing he is? *sigh*

Stockton has his own responsibilities to handle and his own struggles that he deals with. After losing his parents in a tragic accident he took on the responsibility of caring for his sister and two brothers as well as taking over the family business. And on top of that, when he isn't working, he helps out the other residents in town by providing them with food and helping with the bills. So Cami is just not on his priority list. At first he doesn't have the time to worry about the "Duchess" and her egotistical ways. But eventually he comes to know the real Cami and he can't deny the feelings he has for her.

As Cami and Stockton both learn to deal with their past they are put through many trails and tribulations. Cami and Stockton's story is woven with hurt and betrayal, but at the forefront, passion and LOVE. You do not want to miss out on this story!

When I first heard about this story that Rachel was co-writing I was excited. I love Rachel’s writing talent and have read all of her work to date. So when I started reading this I figured from the way it was written that Rachel had written all of Camdyn’s story and not knowing Lila and her writing style I assumed she wrote Stockton’s story. Come to find out after many questions and an Author Interview I was totally right. I was instantly drawn into Lila’s writing in the book and found myself wanting to read more from her. These two amazing ladies have written an awesome book with both of their personalities on the page. With that being said here is my review.

Camdyn is a young woman feeling as if she wants more out her life and she is slowing spirally out of control towards rock bottom in her life. She has one night where she is on a date with another guy her sister has set her up with and it is going nowhere fast in her mind. He is trying to get her drunk to take advantage of her and she sees this happening, she slowly but surely walks out the restaurant and steals his car and winds up wrecking it into her mom’s store front while drunk. This makes her parents realize that she needs help and some hard work and labor may change the way she is acting. They set off to the Tennessee Mountain side that her dad grew up on where her Aunt Mallory lives and runs a sheep farm.

Stockton is a young man who has lost his parents in a tragic barn fire years earlier and he blames himself for the accident. He is harboring demons & regret deep in his soul and living to only breathe and take care of his siblings who have lost their parents as well. Stockton has taken over his dads blacksmithing company trying to make ends meet and a comfortable living for his sister Will. He will go to the ends of the Earth to see his sister happy and loved. Little does he know she just wants him to find love like their parents had and move on.

Camdyn and Stocktons’ Worlds collide here in this little town as they both have this unspoken attraction to one another. Everyone sees it on the outside and believes that the other can ultimately fix the other and they will love one another. This story takes the path of them try to figure out what they want in life as they both keep on just living to survive. Stockton comes to his senses and turns it to an old fashion courting. He sits outside her window for hours at night learning who she is and she who he is. It turns into them realizing that they really are not all that broken and with each other they have found that person that can make them whole in life and want to live for the next day as long as they have one another to help mend their once out of control lives and hearts.

I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I can’t remember a time I was so anxious to read a book that wasn’t a sequel to a series I had been currently reading, but with both Lila and Rachel teasing excerpts of this book on their Facebook pages I was drawn in with the very first teaser. Although I am a huge fan of Rachel Higginson, I had never even heard of Lila Felix before, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this co-authored book. Well, I wasn’t disappointed! These two authors writing styles merged together so seamlessly that I would have never known that each point of view was written by completely different people!

I fell in love with Cami from the very first snarky inner tirade against the guy her sister set her up with. At first I had a love-hate relationship with Stockton. He first grabbed my heart with his many selfless acts of kindness, yet with his attitude towards Cami there were times I just wanted to smack him upside the head and tell him to take a step back and look at her, not physically, cause we all know she is beautiful, but look under the surface of the beauty. I can’t remember a time I have ever cried so hard out of pure compassion for a character as I did with Cami or with frustration like I did with Stockton and Cami’s aunt and uncle. You take a girl who has ever had to work a day in her life, a girl who was given every material possession she could ever want and stick her in the middle of nowhere on a farm with family she barely knows, well of course it is going to be rough. But one thing I can say for Cami is that she really tried to do everything her aunt and uncle had planned for her, and to see those efforts not appreciated, and sometimes even spurned, well that just made my blood boil for her. Once Stockton started to see Cami as a young woman trying so hard to please the people around her - and wanting so much to be appreciated for her efforts instead of the spoiled rich girl he imagined – well that is the moment that Stockton became one of my favorite book boyfriends.

* Parents please be aware there is drinking, driving drunk, and strong language in this book.

ARC Review;

"Striking" is a love story born of hatred, embedded in the embers of passion to create an everlasting connection between two people worthy of such devotion. This story incredibly lesson in the value of self worth, hard work & true love conquering all! (Even a snarky attitude!!)

To get an idea of Cami Montgomery, you need to think of Regina George from "Mean Girls". Trendy, spoiled, conceited & unmotivated. After running a car into her mom's elegant Beverly Hills boutique, her parents feel its time for an intervention & ship her off her aunt & uncle in the Appalachian Mountains. To say this was a culture shock doesn't even cover it! Cami attempts to herd sheep in designer shoes & her expensive clothes were not meant for cleaning out stalls. Oh but hold on y'all because here comes Stockton Wright.....*sigh*

Stockton has more on his shoulders than the average twenty four year old. Because of a tragic family circumstance he had to leave school in order to come home & take care of his siblings & the small town he left behind. Mentally & physically exhausted, Stockton knows he needs a change a ray of hope in his darkness. Can Stockton make room in his hectic life for Cami?? Does she want to stay & become a part of his life, or return home to the plastic safety of Beverly Hills?

OMG!!! I loved every minute of this book!! Even though Cami was stuck up, I couldn't help but love her!! She's hilarious & doesn't take crap off of anyone!! The changes she makes are because she sees the need to make them in herself NOT for Stockton. Her transformation is truly awe-inspiring, will make you cry & make you proud of Cami's accomplishments! Lets not forget the sexy Stockton, although pretty close to perfect he has a few lessons to learn himself. The more time he spends with Cami, the more he realizes he wants & needs her in his life. Having love in his life makes him a complete person & better able to handle the hardships that have become his life. I absolutely fell in love with Cami & Stockton & their love story will stay in my heart for a long time to come.

Camdyn aka Cami our girl from L.A sent to her aunt & uncle's farm out in the mountains for punishment since all she does is screw up in her parent's eyes. Cami has issues that stem from how her sister/her parent's treatment to her since she was a child. Cami doesn't know what it feels like to be Loved nor have someone Proud of her. All Cami needs was Love, Acceptance, Guidance, and some Attention. Her aunt/uncle are tough on Cami trying to see if it'll help her grow and learn from this experience, maybe avoid making the same mistakes when she returns home. Cami meets Stockton (Hello Gorgeous!!) and his baby sister Willa, But in an Instant it seems as if Stockton dislikes Cami and the feeling is mutual if not alittle confusing too. Willa & Cami become fast friends and are accepting of each other. Stockton judges Camdyn as everyone else does w/o giving her a chance first. He acts like a jerk by insulting, misunderstanding, assuming what kind of person Cami is but after a few words from Willa, seeing some things he starts to open up and gets a glimpse of Cami's heart. Stockton's eyes are pried Wide Open by her Brightness, Sweetness, Toughness and Falls head over heels for his city girl he dubs "The Duchess". Stockton has his own demons he must work through because he carries a heavy load of guilt over the loss of their parents'. He blames himself and thinks he could've saved them if he were home instead of away at college. Stockton is Tough & Mean in the beginning he shows that he is a True gentleman with Impeccable manners. Cami comes across Shallow & Rude at first as well but with a little Patience you see her grow right in front of your eyes and see she has a Beautiful heart that hurts just like everyone else's does. Camdyn & Stockton have an Innocent, Tender, Cute story and even though they seems opposite like night/day they find ways to fit just right!

Let me just start by saying I was a bit skeptical at first. I simply ADORE Lila Felix and everything she does and I mean EVERYTHING! I hadn't read any of Rachel Higginson's work (boy is that changing!) and I wasn't sure how this collaboration would work. Every author has their own style. Well, let me tell you this works. This books pages flow effortlessly. It was amazing to read how two different authors can come together and create magic. It's been so long since I've read a good old fashion romance and these two deliverer it! Cami, our heroine of the story, has had some not so stellar moments in her life and is sent to live with her aunt and uncle in a small town in Tennessee. This is where we meet Stockton (love that name!) Stockton is unfortunately reeling from his parents death, running his Father's business, and taking care of his siblings. When Cami and Stockton meet all
is not well between them but, the chemistry is undeniable. It was so wonderful to see their romance blossom. One of my favorite swoon worthy moments is when Stockton visits Cami after her aunt and uncle go to sleep. He sits on a stool outside her window and they talk to each other about anything and everything. I LOVE that! This couple and their story was like a breath of fresh air! Please don't hesitate to get this gem of a book. The characters, the swoon worthy moments (you get to experience a few of those!) watching two people find themselves as well as each other its quite the experience. I simply love this book and can't wait for the second book. You get a sneak peak of what's coming next at the end of this one. Get the book, I promise you won't regret it!!!!! I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.

LOOOOOVED IT!!!

FULL REVIEW:
AHHHHHH!!!!!! Man...Can I just say that this book freakin ROCKS???
I literally read this book in one sitting. It was just that fabulous!! I love books that grab me from the get go and won't let me go until I have read those last words on that last page...
Just FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!!!!
These two brilliantly talented ladies coming together was pure genius and Striking is the scorching truth of that.
Wonderfully written and developed cast with a captivating, enthralling storyline that grips your heart and brings you to their world so easily, you immediately find yourself transported to the small town lives of these characters.
I absolutely LOVED Cami. The spunky, lively, confused, girl draws you to her with her magnetic personality. There are just people out there that you instantly connect to and she is one of those. I felt for her on so many occasions and couldn't understand really what went wrong for her to have to suffer the way she did, but we all have to find things in our lives and we all have to do them in ways that may not make sense to others.
Now, on the other spectrum we have Stockton...OMG...I want me a blacksmith...Actually...I just want him...This guy is AMAZING....He won over my heart immediately and even though he makes his mistakes...WOW!! WHAT A MAN!!! The moments that build with him and Cami take your breath away and all I wanted to do was stay there...in those moments...*sighs heavily*
A truly fabulous tale that has so much packed in to these pages...
I loooooooved EVERY moment....
A DEFINITE MUST READ!!!!

Wow, is about the only thing that is coming to mind at the moment about this book and the fact that I really didn't want it to end.. as in NEVER! I loved Cami and Stockton, and the authors made me feel their every emotion, which only made me fall even more in love with these two. Not only did I fall in love the two main characters in this story, but I also loved Stockton's siblings.. Bridger, West, and Willa. And as I was reading this book and kept trying to slow down because I kept getting closer and closer to the end.. I wanted to just break down and bawl. And then a miracle happened... I finished the epilogue and I saw.....

CHAPTER ONE
BRAZING
Bridger

..... Which caused me to squeal with delight....

..... Which in return, caused my boss to look at me like he questioned my sanity and possibly his.. since I do his books lol....

I am no longer sad that Striking ended. I am, however, absolutely giddy with excitement that this was a start to a wonderful.. fabulous series! I cannot wait for more!

Like all of Lila Felix's books, I always fall head over heels for them. I was a tad bit worried about this one because not all authors can pull off writing a book with another author. Don't fret.. Lila Felix and Rachel Higginson not only proved they work well together, they kicked some serious ass while doing it. These two are a force to be reckoned with, and I for one cannot wait for more books from these two.

Striking, will suck you into it's pages, and won't let you up for air until the very last page! You are in for a true treat... Enjoy!!

**I received an ARC in exchange for a fair review*

I should preface this by saying that I really enjoy books written by Lila Felix. This is my first time reading something from Rachel Higginson (not sure how much came from each author), but the overall story read like other things from Felix.
This was the first in a series called Forged In Fire and was the story of Cami and Stockton. (Felix's characters always have really cool names, it seems). Cami was a troubled misguided rich girl who drove drunk and crashed her car into her mother's store, so she was sent off to the country. In Cami's world, when young adults behave poorly they get sent to rehab or in her case to the country to straightened out. Stockton was a down to earth blacksmith trying to take care of his siblings after his parents untimely death. She meets Stockton while living with her very strict, old fashioned aunt and uncle in the Appalachian mountains. Cami struggles with getting her life together and finding self worth. Stockton has to forgive himself for his parents death and how he feels it was his fault.
The story was very sweet and as in Felix's other works, written very tastefully. (No graphic sex scenes here). There are little touches that are very well thought out. For example, Stockton's family says "take care" not "I love you" when saying good bye, because being careful is so important.
Looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Holly's 4.5 Star Review

I am a big fan of Lila Felix's work so of course I was very excited when I saw she was co-writing Striking. This is the first I've heard from Rachel Higginson but I will definitely be looking out for her books from now on. Striking is a fantastic book that had me hooked from page one. Told in dual POV we get inside the heads of both Cami and Stockton, and I absolutely loved them both.

Cami seemed like your typical rich, spoilt princess so stick her in a field full sheep and she's bound to cause some comedy moments, and boy did she! She had me laughing plenty but she also tore at my heartstrings. People - especially her father - were horrible to her and I found myself crying along with her. She was at her best around Stock. I loved seeing how they interacted.

Stockton was perfect! I don't think you will be able to read this and not love him. He's just one of those characters that steals your heart right from the start. He's such a great guy!! He's been through a lot as well but he works his butt off to provide for his family and his. community.

About the last 30% didn't seem to flow as good as the rest of the book which was a shame but it didn't take away from the fact that the book and the story and the characters were all great. This is the first book in its series and I can’t wait for book #2.

This was a really good book. Cami Montgomery has been acting out and doing destructive things for years. Finally her parents have had enough after she destroys someone else's car and the mothers shop in Beverly Hills. Cami is sent to stay with her Aunt and Uncle in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee.

Camdyn, who prefers to be called Cami, grew up with parents who were more interested in money and possessions then in being loving parents to their two daughters. Shallow and only caring about certain things, they have made Cami feel like she could never measure up to what they want. She starts having to do big time manual labor working on her Aunt and Uncle's sheep farm. She feels like she is stuck in a hillbilly place and doesn't understand what is wanted of her or what she needs to do. She's attracted to Stockton but he confuses her alot.

Stockton Wright was in college when his parents were killed. He dropped out of college and took his father's place as a Blacksmith and raised his younger sister. She was only 15 when they died and she needed him. They have two brothers between them and they are all close but Will and Stockton have always been closest. He's done his best to follow in his fathers footsteps but he feels like he is stuck.
He starts seeing good things with Cami and sees goodness in her.

Definitely worth reading.

I went into this book expecting to find a lot of Overboard/Troop Beverly Hills style fish out of water hijinxs. And while there was some of that, at its core we find a poignant and sweet love story between two people trapped in their own purgatories.

I’ve been reading an increasing number of books lately that have been doing the his and her dual point of view and doing it well. This collaboration between Lila Felix and Rachel Higginson not only continues that trend but knocks it out of the park. Each point of view is written by a different author, but their styles blend together so well that if I hadn’t known ahead of time I don’t think I would have been able to tell you who was who.

“I’d been stupidly thinking about him all week and now I could just punch myself in the ovaries for it.”

I’d be very hard pressed not to spoil anything for you that hasn’t been teased out in the synopsis so I’ll just say. There will be laughter, there will be tears, things will probably get ugly. And that’s all just going to be from you while reading it!

Lila and Rachel are off to a wonderful start as this is just book #1 of the Forged in Fire series and this isn’t a book or series that you’re going to want to miss!

This was such a wonderful book. I fell in love with Cami and Stockton at the very beginning and knew they would make a great couple. Their relationship develops slowly and we're able to really watch them fall in love. And both are great characters. Actually, with the exception of Cami's parents and sister, all of the characters in this book are good. Stockton's sister Will is especially sweet.

Cami pushes her parents too far in an attempt to try and get some kind of attention from them. They're from Beverly Hills and are too wrapped up in themselves to notice her. Their solution is to send her to her aunt and uncles in Tennessee. This turns out to be the best turn of events in her life. She meets Stockton. At first, they're snide and snappy with each other but you know it's because they are attracted to one another. When Cami becomes friends with Will, she's asks Stockton to be nice and try to be friends. Once they begin to spend time together, these two souls, both with broken pasts, begin to heal.

Great love story. Language isn't really bad and there are no love scenes for those readers who prefer more PG rated books. First in the series but also a stand alone. Both POVs and happy ending.

Let me start by saying I absolutely love Lila Felix's guts. For this book she teamed up with Rachel Higginson and they are an awesome team! Striking is a story about a Cami or known as "Dutchess" who is from California and gets sent to spend some time rehabbing it up in Tennessee with her aunt and uncle on their farm. She meets Stockton or known as "Hillbilly" and instantly you feel the fire between them. Because of past events Stockton had to take on a major role in his family but you still see all the love he has and how important it is. Cami hasn't had the best family relationship and is acting out on it. They have an impact on each other for the best.

I love how Lila and Rachel where able to flow with each other while writing this book even when they weren't together to do so. The romance was swoonworthy, the friendships are tight, the relationships between everybody are realistic. Oh and the tears I shed for Stockton and Cami are real too. Absolutely love Lila and Rachel's guts and can't wait for more!!

ARC Review

Two worlds collide is the best description I can think of to describe Stockton and Cami, and I mean collide. These two bump heads every single time they see each other. Yet they cannot deny the chemistry between them.

What I liked about the book: Stockton, I love how he can be so real, so raw, and so good! Yet, he can be a real ass on occasion too. Cami, watching her character develop was such a pleasure. There is such tension between these two; you can just feel the underlying passion. The writing connection between Lila and Rachel is so very powerful - they are a fantastic team.

What I didn't like about the book: I really cannot give a complaint too much here, I loved it. If I were to complain, there is a point in the book, which I won't say which point it is, that I really would have loved to hear Stock's point of view.

Would I recommend the book: Absolutely! Everyone needs to be forged in fire now and then.

A pretty good book. It was a bit sentimental in places and sometimes the story seemed to be taking an awful long time to say the same thing over and over again but overall it was a very sweet and romantic love story. I liked the themes the author introduced about how having love in life makes things whole again and brings healing where there used to be brokenness. Cami was an awesome character. I loved her stubborn attitude and her smart-mouthed remarks had me laughing from the first chapter. Stockton was also really interesting and I admire his strength of character for giving up his plans to come home and raise his sister when his parents dies. I hope I'd be able to do the same for my family.
All in all this was a pretty good read for an afternoon and I'd recommend it if you're looking a sweet and light-hearted story with a laugh or two along the way.
